  • Canon officially announced the development of their upcoming flagship mirrorless line, Canon EOS R3 camera. This R3 is a big deal because it seems like Canon is finally stepping into the mirrorless game full fledged. So its exciting to see what officially comes included with this R3. Stay tuned for that. But another big feature mentioned was something that was rumored for a few years, eye controlled eye autofocus. I discuss that a bit in the video above but let me know your thoughts on the Canon EOS R3 and the eye af feature in the comments below. Is this finally something promising from Canon? Looks like it.

Nice video. Keep it up Eric.
Just to point out, Eye Autofocus is not new technology to Canon. I still own this SLR, though I hardly use it anymore.
Canon EOS 55 Eye Control_Elan II
EOS 50 is a 35mm autofocus SLR introduced by Canon in 1995.
An Eye Control focusing version is also available called EOS 50E.
This model was succeeded by the EOS 30 in 2000.
The Eye Control focusing has improved over the first generation.
It now has the ability to be rotated and function in portrait orientation mode as well.
It is also capable of focus tracking your eye movements when you press the shutter button halfway or during continuous shooting modes.
An auto focus assist beam is also on the body to aid in focusing.

I should’ve been more specific sorry. For their mirrorless line. It’s been rumored they would’ve had it in their first integration.

@@Eric_Rossi I’m with you. And thanks for clarifying. Hopefully, Canon will leverage on their previous Eye AF functionality and make it even better for Mirrorless.
No doubt there are lots of questions to ask about this. There are numerous people with different eye functions. Our eyes are not the same. But we have to trust Canon to have the perfect solution (well, near perfect).
      👍🏼

Eric, there are quite a number of bridge cameras available for $500 to $900. Would you be interested in comparing bridge cameras and smartphone cameras to consumer and prosumer cameras for people who want to take family and vacation photos; not professional photos? I realize that you normally evaluate prosumer cameras. However, since this seems to be a respite in new camera releases, it might be an interesting interlude until new gear comes on the market. Thanks.

Wow, if it works it's going to be amazing, but I hear ya Eric on the gimmicky part....I wouldn't jump right on the 1st camera, I'd wait to get maybe the 3rd generation when a lot of the kinks worked out.

    Wow so if you clic
Look into a viefinder and try to focus on a certain point just by looking at it 🤔 that’s that’s interesting 🤨

Eye auto focus? Saw that in Minolta 9xi 7xi etc.

      @@Eric_Rossi ...
Of course that's agreed. The technology existed and experienced 25 or so years ago.
Fuzzy logic implementation. Minolta paid a penalty on a patent issue with hp. Thanks.

In 5 years Camera's will be like iRobot. We're screwed. 😛🤣 The focus just seems over the top. If that's what it is.
