I feel like this isn't noticed enough but like, the whole Gnosis thing isn't symbolical or anything. Scaramouche as a puppet was made without a heart, because the Gnosis was meant to be his heart. It was meant to be something he drew power from, and so when it was taken from him he screamed "I'll never go back" because he didn't want to be heartless like before.
