Actually Austro-Hungarian talked pretty well to Germans about Italian army. Don't forget Italy was constantly conquering territories until the German help to Austro-Hungarians. They were on the same level, a newly formed country against a decadent old empire, with a stagnating economy and aristocratic old military commands. Against modern german tactics, Italy army indeed fell apart (mostly captured before they can even react during the battle of Caporetto) but the same happenend to Austro-Hungarian against the French on the Alps.
Italy annihilated the combined Austro German forces on the Piave river and at Vittorio Veneto, the reason for the Collapse at Caporetto was due to overstreched supply lines after the Italian conquest of Gorizia. The Austro/German forces failed to defeat the Italians after Caporetto exactly for the same reason, topography and logistics. Italian geography favors the defender, not the attacker, so the defeat at Caporetto actually did, logistically and tactically speaking, a favor to the Italian army.
Italian fought against German in the western front too and they did it very well. In the battle of Chemin des Dames Italian troops won against German and were admired by French. I think you just don't know.

As an American Indian with technologically “superior” firepower, the spirit of Italians will never die. I’d rather see them as allies rather than enemies.
There were more accomplishments beyond what I speak here, and I’m aware of them. Just didn’t feel the need to list all of their power. If you know, you know.

Actually arditi fought with knife and handgranades. They also had some people with small machine guns. First small machine guns was used by them ( fiat mod. 1915 "Villar Perosa"). Arditi training and tactics were alteady in use by german Sturmtruppen. Hand to hand weapons were commonly in use in wwi. So the alliance ceased automatically and Italy was free to accept new pacts. Only after a year Italy entered the war on the English/French side.
Exactly 💯
Narrator: "Imagine your shock as guys with Knives and not guns jump in your trench "
Me: "Imagine your shock when Big foot walks behind you after surprising some enemy troops" 4:07

"REGGIIIIIIIIIIE!"

I loved that scene
I hoped I'd find a comment about Woodhouse
Nah woodhouse killed Germans for their German scalps he must have had 50 of ‘em
Roadhouse.
Killing with a knife seems so badass and makes anyone who does it look tough
It's because it is tough

@@andreadimatteo1036 Italians were on the western front at the end of the war.
@@FunkyRezable so? what is your point? Italians fought well anyway. For sure much more trained and motivated that americans
As a Hispanic Italian this brings a tear to my eye.....my people were so spiteful we deliberately brought knives to a gunfight 😂
I love how this video starts with a beautiful mountain range and landscape… to talk about a brutal group of knife trench warfare fighters.
Pov. You just watched The Kingsman and was looking for the knife scene on the battlefield
The knife fight scene in the trenches in "The King's Man" was horrifying. Check it up..
*Looks at the title and the thumbnail* Must be the Arditi.
Video: *confirms it*
Me: Of course! \^o^/
"Pugnal fra denti, la bomba a mano!" (Knife in mouth, grenade in the hand.)- lyrics to their hymn "Le fiame nerre" (The black flame- Arditi's insignia)
le bombe* ;)
This is so incorect, it is impressive.
They are Descendants of Roman Empire, just thinking 😂😂😂
I respect all soldiers from all the countries who fought and dead in WW1
Better than our American President.
This is basically the history of the guys in Modern Warfare that use the combat knife and concussion grenades
Who brings a knife to a gun fight, answer the italians.
Who knew that Italy, once known for the Roman Empire, had a regiment that was specialized in knife and sword fighting in WWI and it was their best one at that. Maybe they never should of picked up the guns and stuck with what they know. xD
One regiment? Pffffttt 27 divisions of them were created
who here was thinking of the battlefield 1 campaign when he said the arditi
4:07 nice putting in that sasquatch lol
Italy has always had incredible soldiers and poor commanders (and politicians)
HOW HAVE I NEVER HEARD OF THESE GUYS?
Thanks for making my weekend. :D
Arditi, the world's first existing special force.
Italians are the old Romans. I would never allow myself close combat with people who’s main accomplishment was conquering the entirety of modern Europe and maintaining a Pax Romana. As an American Indian with technologically “superior” firepower, the spirit of Italians will never die. I’d rather see them as allies rather than enemies.
There were more accomplishments beyond what I speak here, and I’m aware of them. Just didn’t feel the need to list all of their power. If you know, you know.
My great-grandfather was a prussian hussar in ww1✴
How many young men did he send to their death?
@@iamnotevenanumber3312 what??
A knife won't jam, doesn't need to be reloaded or taken apart, and kills silently in both day and night, on dry land and in the water. Nothing beats a knife if you know your enemy and know yourself.
I mean it makes sense considering Italians have thousands years of history of sword and knife fighting.
No. It does not make much of a sense.
Other nations: I want planes bombing, then an artillery barrage. After that I want landships to smash through barbed wide, followed by light machinegunners doing walking fire and infantry following behind them
Italy:
"You see that trench?"
"Yes"
"Here's a knife. Run towards it. Don't worry, we'll shell the whole place while you're there to give you cover"
"Si. O LA VITTORIA O TUTTI ACCOPPATI"
I am surprised. Infographics is totally ignoring existence of Gurkhas
The most terrifying knife welding in Military History...
They were junkies
@Evilpimp Gurkhas fought on both world wars for brits. Dont you know that? And which was that episode where they covered about gurkhas?
@Enderlance indeed. The Arditi were even more badass, and nobody knows them. I'm disappointed.
Literally brought knives to a gunfight.

big foot: oh im just gonna...
4:07 this guy really added BigFoot 💀😂
My great grandfather became an “ardito” by mistake! Luckily he made it through

I'd not previously heard of the Arditi. Very interesting and entertaining, thank you.
Imagine being one of those Italian soldiers 🤯
Could we stop picking on Italians for a war they actually won ?

I believe the title means how knive fighting put soldiers into a state of *shock*
shell shock? Get it? I'll see myself out.
World War 1 was an interesting intersection of major technological innovation and old world weapons.
The Italians are famous for producing top grade cutlery and i think those historic knives are still produced by a small company called Extrema Ratio.
....Exactly.... 😎😎
That scene from Kingsman was very accurate in their depiction of nighttime melee fighting.
In all fairness they didn't only carry knives, they carried rifles carbines pistols and all the grenades they could carry.
Also they tended to go all stabby after they cleared the trenches with grenades....
Italians have created ultramarines before warhammer 40.000
I love this channel! So very very interesting and informative! The huge Austro-Hungarian vs Italian or Russian battles are often overlooked or eclipsed by the Western Front through mainstream media... and in movies... The movie Saving Private Ryan turned me into a "War Documentary Buff"... since 1998 I been reading about WW1 and WW2 and other "major" battles... but watching these documentaries on youtube is so much better! Thanx again guys. Again... love your channel!
Another daily dose of Infographics show
Man I’m loving these double uploads
No big deal for us, my ancestors and a few of us still practice brutal knife fights.
Maces, spiked clubs etc. were used also by austrians because they were more effective in trenches (small space).
I also remind you first "sea commando" operation realized in wwi. Two Italian soldiers sunk the austrians battleship viribus unitis sneaking underwater in a full guarded austrian Port to Place a bomb.
they were trolling the enemy like we do in cod
Knife fighting Italians and Bigfoot. Legendary video
And they say never bring a knife to a gun fight.
Me in Battlefield 1: use knife or shovel

very interesting video finally you speak a bit of Italy and as an Italian I take the opportunity to ask you for a video of military confrontation between Italy and Turkey considering the history that binds us and above all the difficult political position of Italy in the Mediterranean between Greece and Turkey
