  • My first experienced on Dhaulagiri was disappointed because of the base camp’s dirty garbage ‪@Saila_mingma‬
Even though base camp is full of garbage, the mountain is not that dirty. I can sure you that Dhaulagiri peak is the only one mountain where I haven’t seen any garbages by comparing with others mountains in Nepal & Pakistan.

The climber should have to put a very large cash deposit when they get to Basecamp. When they leave if they don’t clean up their mess, they don’t get their deposit back. And that money is giving to whoever has to clean it up.

I am agree with you too & also if there is strict rules no need to do more drama.

I’ve thought the same thing. A deposit can be added to the climbing fees, refundable upon leaving a clean campsite. The government can perhaps hire someone to monitor the various base camps, and assure compliance. There’s no excuse for the slovenliness displayed - if you could pack it in, you can pack it back out. It amazes me that people travel halfway around the world to see, climb and experience these breathtaking, remote mountains, vlog and blog about how magical and transformative they are, then leave kilos of trash and filth behind.
The exception to this are upper camps that have been destroyed by avalanches, with tents and supplies buried throughout the debris, where retrieval may be impossible at the time. It still litters the mountains, and requires special removal.
Nepal’s army organized massive cleanups to rid Everest of debris, trash, and bodies. So, kudos to them, and other groups who have helped with that effort.

I heard the nepalese government will pay you $1500 for every 18lbs of trash you bring down. Youd think that would be an incentive. Especially after how much money you spend to go there.

Yes, I totally agree - DOG MEAT??? Really? Go vegetarian like most of us westerners have to do, or meals in a bag.
      No reason for this!!!

Its should be made a mandatory rule for all climbers to collect their individual trash while returning. Should anyone is unable to or simply just doesn't comply, a good reasonable sum should be deducted from their security deposit and that amount be used to clean it up by other voluntary climbers upon paying them.
