I still prefer Pro-Q3. It's still the only super advanced, modern EQ that runs smooth and reliable on big sessions with large track counts. If you really need 32 bands than you must have serious problems within your recording chain. Think of it: A Neve 1073 or API 550A has just 3 bands and these EQs were used for mixing legendary hit albums.
Just because you have a number of bands doesn't mean you have to use em all. This eq is objectively superior to ProQ3. The dynamic section alone is untouchable
Like the mind blowing plugin! It is a mind blowing introduction video as well! Good job. Does the analogue emulation only emulates the curve? or also the circuitry? the saturation?
Great video! Do the vintage models consist only in reproducing the shape of the filters or do they also "have a sound"? Is using these models like using a channel strip plugin in terms of the sound you get?
Being able to use a Neve-style curve for the high's, an SSL-style curve for the mid's, and a seemingly ISA-style curve for the low's? Seems pretty bad-ass to me!
the Therms "quantisation noise" and "Oversampling" are a bit new to me fro digital equalizers.. quantisation noise, i never heard about that for EQs, and Oversampling, well that should be for analoge emulation..
@@mixbustv don’t own that one I know good engineers love it , I have the waves F6 pretty cool ,Eventide split EQ looks very interesting, but I’ll likely choose this kirchoff EQ eventually just got the spl EQ it never ends !

The other day you tested out the SPL Passive EQ hardware and wanted to see if you could compare it with Plugin Alliance SPL Passive EQ it be nice to see a comparison between both to see how close they emulated the plugin, if you can do it in a future video I'll appreciate it👍
hello, in frequency2 (cubase stock plugins) you can declare more than one side chain source, and each dynamic band can use a different side chain source (it s really cool feature for example with a single instance you can duck the lowend with the bass, duck the mid with the vocal...) , can kirchoff do that? right now i m using pro q3+frequency+split eq + some analogue eq emulation (with non linearities)...i wish i could use only one plugin to replace them all.
Not really, 117bit, adaptve filter topologies (less quantization nose), and the dynamic section is not even close. Way more then just the gui, this is a superior eq
Very curious about this one. I’ve always liked linear phase EQs in very specific scenarios (such as a top end boost on something not transient heavy, like vocals) but actively dislike them most other places. I’ve always wondered if the quantization noise and transient smearing is part of what I’m hearing that I like about them in those upper frequencies. I’ve also thought that an EQ that allows different algorithms for different moves would be helpful (as opposed to 2 different instances). Curious!
Dave, 2 questions. 1. Does this EQ allow to switch to Linear Phase mode for dynamic EQing on either mid/side? For example you want to add dynamic boost on sides but with Linear Phase mode 2. Many times you mentioned that using Linear Phase EQ for HPF and low end filters is not good idea. Indeed using regular EQ for HPF while mastering in most cases sounds better. What about these new Linear Phase modes for HPF? Thank you
To the first question, no you can't do that, it would be pretty tricky to achieve that because you'd have different latency, probably you'd have to delay the minimum phase signal as well but also, I don't see much use for that. Second question: this is gonna minimize most of the problems regular LP have, especially with mixed phase since you can even select the xover freq. Time (and use) will tell.
It is not the same, pro q 3 is better optimized and doesn't really have options that just waste CPU like kirchhoff does. Kirchhoff seems to run fine on some systems but pretty bad on others
I was genuinely sceptical that this would be noticeably better than Pro-Q 3. Difference is huge. Particularly in the tonal imprint on the high end - I’m a convert, this is my new pre-analog chain mastering EQ.
@Hell Cat I’ve found that as well. I usually only apply it sparingly to the low end for light subtractive shaping before it gets sent out to my analog chain.
o m g As long as the top end sounds nice like the SSL x EQ. I think it does when it talks about the anti cramping thing. Isnt this also a multi band compressor?
Dave you're late to the party. LoL I cursed out White Noise (not Wytse at White Sea Studio) to do a video on Kirchhoff EQ. I've been getting in your butt to do this like two Rock's (one Rock wouldn't be strong enough to pin you down to get inside of yours hahahaa) Oh c'mon that was good.
Dynamic processors create harmonics so oversampling in a dynamic EQ makes sense as it will reduce aliasing.
Such a dope breakdown,, thanks,,,,,,, you sound so good, where is your mic? ....Do you have a video explaining your streaming setup?
I don't, it's a $20 lav from amazon
I love this plugin!!! Best!
This is Bestest EQ!!!
This has made the EQ list I have 5 plug-ins shorter lol
Currently not available to buy in the UK :(
This one looks pretty sick Out of curiosity What was your previous go to digital EQ ??
Proq3 for gen purpose
@@mixbustv don’t own that one I know good engineers love it , I have the waves F6 pretty cool ,Eventide split EQ looks very interesting, but I’ll likely choose this kirchoff EQ eventually just got the spl EQ it never ends !
No Moog or Oberheim filter??? Tssss....
:D
Thx for this review. I see they have an "OwnTHD" fx .... For us poor ones who work purely digital, any idea of its usefulness?
I didn't know at all this ThreeBodyTech maker. Their Chinese flutes are very appealing too ^^ Thx.
I was literally thinking 2 days ago that this will be the next eq trend, ie the analog curves. I was wondering why it hadn't been done already!
@@nickmessitte1721 I just hadn't seen it anywhere yet. It's a gamechanger I think
I think waves did it too with their H EQ.
Mind = BLOWN!
Does it show the clashing frequencies between 2 tracks like in fab filter?
It's on sale!
Wow, that is a feature packed EQ. Thanks for the review!
dude the gain staging in the promo vid for this plugin lol
loving it ...
Even the "Snake Oil" guy said it was good. 🤣🤣🤣🔥
The other day you tested out the SPL Passive EQ hardware and wanted to see if you could compare it with Plugin Alliance SPL Passive EQ it be nice to see a comparison between both to see how close they emulated the plugin, if you can do it in a future video I'll appreciate it👍
Mine is not the PassEQ, is the PQ, very different. There's no plug-in for my eq
@@mixbustv now Plugin Alliance has the SPL PQ as a plugin now. 😁
So Dave what do you prefer analogue eqs or digital?
Safe to say analog
hello, in frequency2 (cubase stock plugins) you can declare more than one side chain source, and each dynamic band can use a different side chain source
(it s really cool feature for example with a single instance you can duck the lowend with the bass, duck the mid with the vocal...)
, can kirchoff do that?
right now i m using pro q3+frequency+split eq + some analogue eq emulation (with non linearities)...i wish i could use only one plugin to replace them all.
Does it have frequency unmasking like proq3 ?
Can it display multi instances of the eq ? Will give it a try .
Really nice interface, soundwise like Pro Q3.
Not really, 117bit, adaptve filter topologies (less quantization nose), and the dynamic section is not even close. Way more then just the gui, this is a superior eq
@@mixbustv Changed my opinion after playing a little bit longer with the EQ. In deed - this EQ is really superior I have to admit.
Wtf it is not, you can get a pretty damn good null with the Pro Q3, but the Q factor is different so keep that in mind@@bjornschulz5177
Curious!
Are you using a Rode Lavalier?
It’s pretty cheap for what it does also 👍👍
Dave, 2 questions.
1. Does this EQ allow to switch to Linear Phase mode for dynamic EQing on either mid/side? For example you want to add dynamic boost on sides but with Linear Phase mode
1. In my observing with Bertom EQ Analyzer, Ozone 9 Dynamic EQ (has mid/side) Digital mode does linear phase.
I so hope Dan Worral is on this
To do what? Lol
Looks pretty damn good! How does the CPU footprint compare to Pro-Q3?
Same
It is not the same, pro q 3 is better optimized and doesn't really have options that just waste CPU like kirchhoff does. Kirchhoff seems to run fine on some systems but pretty bad on others
@@AlonsoJoaquinComposer Thank you.
Ciao David, is the modelling part imitating the behaviour of analog EQs also coloration-wise?
nope, curves only
@@mixbustv it might be a good thing though...
hi david what do you think about tim petherick plugins im curious what you think about his comp bus and other plugins he makes!
Never heard of em
I was genuinely sceptical that this would be noticeably better than Pro-Q 3. Difference is huge. Particularly in the tonal imprint on the high end - I’m a convert, this is my new pre-analog chain mastering EQ.
@Hell Cat I’ve found that as well. I usually only apply it sparingly to the low end for light subtractive shaping before it gets sent out to my analog chain.
o m g As long as the top end sounds nice like the SSL x EQ. I think it does when it talks about the anti cramping thing. Isnt this also a multi band compressor?
It's not the same as a multiband compressor as there are no crossovers but the dynamics section is so advanced that it can probably be used as one.
Thank you, i think this has features i have been looking for
They have a Auto Resonanz Finder?
Dave you're late to the party. LoL I cursed out White Noise (not Wytse at White Sea Studio) to do a video on Kirchhoff EQ.
I've been getting in your butt to do this like two Rock's (one Rock wouldn't be strong enough to pin you down to get inside of yours hahahaa)
Oh c'mon that was good. Uh Oh Richard.....*slap* If you don't respond with a heart, then I know you hate this comment. This is the cause and effect relationship we have here, buddy. Hahaha LoL
Well now Pro Q4 has a lot of work to do
