Thank you for posting this, I have an interview Friday at a lodge and this made me not feel so nervous and understand the position I applied for better.
Thanks for posting this! I was just hired for a hotel night audit job and was trying to find out more about it. This was a nice little insight into what I'll be doing.
I love the role as night auditor. At my hotel I have to do laundry, which is kind of a buzz kill. One, I suck at it lol Two, I've been given more admin/marketing work, but still need to make sure my laundry gets done. So, it pretty much turned my laid back, low stress job, into...well...not lol That has been my experience, I'd be hard-pressed to think you will have the same. The night auditor job itself tho, is pretty good. It's pretty laid back, you don't need to have any accounting experience, despite "auditor" being in the name. lol I dunno if you've done overnights before, but they can take getting use to, and what works for some might not work for others. The only way I seem to be able to handle it was to flip my schedule right around, so whats 12 noon for normal people, is midnight for me. I also keep my routine on my days off as well. If I don't it throws me off for most of the week, but some times it can't be helped. Again, everyone's different, but this has been my experience. I just realized this was posted a week ago, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Hows it going? What do you think of it?
I honeslty rub my reports before 2:30 , then check all 6 floors . I chill and sit down between 2:30-4am. Since nobody is checking in . Then I start the grits or oatmeal for breakfast . Then I finished setting out breakfast before 6am. My job is 80% chilling really and 20% doing stuff. So that’s my experience . I LOVE IT
Thanks I am about to start work as a night porter for the first time. This makes me feel good that it is a quite and easy job which is what I need at the moment after having poor health a stressful IT career.
Work audit on the weekend. Always find it amusing and frustrating that you can never find anything because dayshift moves it or changes the lock on housekeeping without telling you. But on the plus side I can work on my music during my downtime. Usually editing scores and brushing up on theory. The stories we could tell working overnights.
When I walk into work. I get happy to see that there is no more check ins lol I love doing Night Audit. I typically don't run audit till 2am. Since 11pm-2pm I check in house if they have breakfast, assign rooms print out reg cards, and get everything ready for the next day. lol
Started to work as night auditor for the first time ever. It can be challenging, but mostly it's quiet. Depends on hotel if night auditor has to set up breakfast or not. This job from hotel to hotel differs a lot.
@@Clintsessentials Lucky! We have to set up breakfast, and we STILL have an attendee that comes in! It’s like WTF?! Why I gotta do the hardest part?! It ain’t “hard”, but it takes me away from the a$$ loads of laundry I gotta do. 😡
I did night audit for many years. I even worked at a Fairfield. While watching this video I couldn't understand why this particular Fairfield did the whole back up tape thing on the third floor, ours was always on the first floor in close proximity to the desk. At the Hampton it was literally behind the desk. but yeah when I was night Auditor at the Fairfield I use to do the same thing set up breakfast and such, but at the Hampton all I had to do was make coffee and do the Audit and pretty much watch RUclips all night. That's what I did lol I loved it. A few years ago I did Audit at a Comfort Inn and you had to do butt loads of laundry :)
Laundry should not take any auditor or manager from his job. For smaller hotels or non-luxury hotels, coin laundry on the same floor with key access should be an option indoors if not have a laundromat nearby.
I have a love hate relationship with night audit. On the good nights it’s good and the bad nights can get real bad real quick. Also I usually tell the guest to come get what they need at the desk since you never know what kind of creeps are checking in. 😳😭
Lol you no when you work at hotels a lot when ya start recognizing the designs of hotels, I can tell that’s a Fairfield inn. XD I’ve been night auditing for 6 years now.
I became a hotel desk clerk/night auditor after the prior one came in drunk once too often. I was the security guard when I was offered the night audit position. I was at the job for 13-14 years. Such terms as RevPar, occupancy rates, marketing, sales, management, daily reports, etc. I normally ran my EOD between 2:30am and 3:am. An interesting to say the least.
Am thinking, there should be at least one night guy each.night porter(reception area),kitchen porter (should have set the break area for you to supervise) and a housekeeper should have taken the amenities requested by the guest!! That way, you wouldn't have left the front desk area!
I just started as a night auditor on the 2nd. I never have downtime. Probably will change when we go back to continental breakfast. Making 60+ bags of grab and go breakfasts takes forever
Thank you for this video I found it very helpful I just got hired as a part time auditor so I really appreciate your insight and info... Again thank you
I've been night auditing for 2 years now and even now I watched this vid while on shift. To be clear I was shocked when I saw most night auditors are setting up breakfast, coffee or tea idk maybe bcz I work at a big hotel but I don't do anything except checking agency contracts and making sure everything in system is in order. We sure do different things but have the same job description
Is it normal to work alone at night? I watch too many scary movies and murder mysteries and think idk be a little scared alone at night, but I think the job is a good fit with my school schedule.
Shortly after lockdowns were slowly being eased, we had to perform in room dining duties. It was difficult but manageable as long as we all on board with the same goal and the same page.
Take from me I've been doing the night audit for almost 40 years get off it and run, It has ruined my life i don't have one. Loved ones don't understand that a life of a night auditor is turned totally up side down. I have become so introverted i can never work a day shift again. I know i'm the only one to blame but early in my life i had to do something to make some kind of living to support my daughter. I have had other jobs but i always end right back on the audit shift. RUN!
honestly thinking about getting this job to use the down time to learn coding. if there really is that much downtime learning a skill doesn’t sound dumb at all.
I start at 11pm. I count money, clean/set up kitchen until 12 and then 1-3am I finish laundry, clean the hot tub, clean rooms (very tiring) and then do the reports at 3am & assign rooms to chambermaids for next morning... then I go back to kitchen put food in the stoves/restock until maybe 5 and then have a snack and then usually down time til 7am when I finish my shift and boss comes in.
I have just started as a Night Auditor but the hotel has put me on days to begin with. Maybe I am just feeling overwhelmed by all the information (i.e. using opera, hotel policy, etc), but I am not sure if I will like it or not. Due to the C-19, things are slow so it's a good way to learn, but at the same time it's tough cause there's not much practice.
Audits are ok...as long as there are no problems..I had 4 separate audits to do,,Restaurant,Spa,Bar and Accommodation... any troublesome anomalys could take hours to rectify even with the new systems..
Wow she had it easy, I did it in Cyprus for 3 yrs.. And its not that easy. Your inchrage of the hotel Hotel on your own. Everything is your responsibility .
I used to do night audit. But it wasn't the only responsibility. Sometimes some check-ins were left, complain from rooms regarding aircondition or some request to provide extra pillows or blanket or crockery to eat food etc responsibilities were also included. Night shift was fine for a weeks but not for more than a month. I felt sleepy if i had to do it for longer.
I’m thinking about becoming a night auditor soon. I am just worried about my security. I’ve probably watched too many crime shows, but I’m scared about delivering items to guests rooms at night. Any tips on how to stay safe? I’d for sure carry pepper spray with me 24/7. I think I’d feel a little scared being alone, and maybe I’m overthinking it too. Also, I’m worried about how I’ll adjust to working nights. I am a mom to a toddler and I really don’t know how I’ll do it, but I’ll have to figure it out.
Try to ask guests to come down for items. Only go up if they are really adamant about not coming down and leave items in a bag outside their rooms. If there is an urgent maintenance issue in a room offer to either move the room or if sold out offer to have it fixed first thing in the morning. If it’s a toilet issue and sold out you can offer a plunger or offer for them to use a public bathroom until the morning when more staff comes in or another room becomes available. Try to never go in a guest room when alone. Think outside the box as you are basically the manager on duty and the security guard for yourself and other guests
I’m new about 6 months and want to know what it looks like to balance food and drinks. My hotel doesn’t have food or drinks so I want see what that looks like. I am a fast learner.
Work at a 1600 room property, we have a GSM, Night Audit, 2 Front Desk Agents and 1 hotel operator, not to mention Room Service, Security, and a Bellman and Doorman on till Midnight. Our Night Audit works off a schedule with the GSM, each has their own work to do and it keeps both very busy. The first bellman at 4:00 am used to deliver all the notices with Security. Now there is automatic check out and we don’t deliver anything. This was all before COVID 19. With 37 years hotel experience, I got a call today saying that my job and our entire staff was eliminated. I no longer work for the company and I’m pretty sad about it. Do you still work Night Audit? Seems like a lot of work to do for one person. All the best!

People swear up and down that being a night auditor is easy. I just got hired as one and the few hours I had of day training felt very stressful, I've got zero experience working really any kind of front desk position. Is it a normal thing for it to be slow then to be slammed all at once with customers checking in?
I been working at hotel lots of years but as a bellboy. Great storys, Lovely tips and lot of free time Now im older and Im Gonna start as a night auditor. I hope I can deal by myself with all the papers and tiny things. As a bellboy at night hotels always give you some extra dutty like if you were a waiter, or garden guy hahhaha. But its fun and at least you walk the whole hotel. I love the video and you look lovely and súper cool woman. I dindt like the whole breakfast thing. Even knowing its just 50.min. I dont think was or is you work to do that. Less without a table with wheels
Have u dealt with crazies ? I’m trying to find a weekend only job I see three hotels so far that have this job . I work part time but I want another thing for weekend only . I have heard stories of people begin robbed . So I might just have a dummy phone with me or something and small wallet
Very informative. Seems like night auditor is a great position to have. But I have to say, as a father I would be doing extra duty praying if my daughter was working night shift at a hotel !! Is there any type of security that's there for you if needed ?
No security, unless it's a super fancy, over the top hotel maybe. But in the hotels for the common folk, no. We night auditors switch hats throughout the shift. So, I am my own bodyguard, LOL. You can always call the police if you see suspicious activity or feel unsafe. The area I work in is safe, but in bigger cities with high crime rates, I would not work nights.
Each hotel may run their security services differently. It’s a valid question to ask at the interview. And basically your daughter would also be a key person that guest will be looking to for answers to when an emergency occurs from fire, earthquake, health related, and active shooter situations. She needs to be tough and always prepared.
Damn I have laundry, pool, fitness room cleanup and....breakfast. Our attendant doesn’t come in until 7 so we have to maintain it for that hour which sucks when we’re sold out. Thanks for the video :0
Night auditor level of difficulty does vary by level of lodgings, ownership, and location. Currently I have to call loo be on average 3-4 times per month, I carry pepper spray when do rounds, had to use it less than 2 months ago,
I have a question. So when you do start your night auditig process, and let’s say you start at 1am, you still have 1 reservation that’s suppose to show up, no call from them, so you assume they’re not coming in. So you cancel it and start the night audit process, but they end up coming in anyways but you’re starting the auditing process for the next day, what do you do then? I have an interview for a night audit shift and I’m scared of doing something wrong. I was working front desk for a hotel before 2nd shift but I left the job because it was extremely difficult for me to understand and overwhelming. But I’m trying it again, this time for night audit. Any tips?
It can vary what you do depending on the hotel but a good thing to know if that there is really nothing you can do wrong in the hotel world that can not get fixed in some way. To answer your question usually the computer system knows that person did not show up and puts them as a no show. If they do end up showing after the audit, which is common then you just check them in as normal and put the days as 0 since they will be leaving that same day.
Trying to live my best life Oh okay, thank you for the reply! Were you overwhelmed when you first started the hotel industry? I’m not sure why but I’m insanely stressed and overwhelmed to start in the hotel world again. I just want to understand the system so I can feel confident in the job.
@@shaym3140 I wss not because I have been doing customer service stuff pretty much my whole life and I catch onto systems pretty easy. Just take your time and ask questions.
Every hotel is different and so their system, once you start at any job you learn from 0, so don't worry, it only takes time and patience to get used to everything and still you can make mistakes, don't put to much pressure on yourself and work hard, you'll be fine!
I have been doing night auditor at the hotel, special the best western. Waiting when the Manager go to sleep take my chair, and took a nap under the front desk..sometimes guests caught me sleeping...I just don't care...
I am from Saudi. I work as guest service agent in Movenpick hotel 5 stars. I do the night run and almost like you. Except that we have a team working with me. I enjoyed your video. It is very important job and in the future you can work as night manager. ❤
I work Night Audit and I also have the cameras which actually I can carry it around since it's on a tablet. I can take my time in the bathroom and watch everything!. Now. Working night time I take my laptop and watch movies all night, be on my phone, play games and nap for only just a few mins but usually always stay up. I don't have to do anything at all but do anything at all and just best job ever. Really relaxed and chill it's pretty much a job for old people and lazy people and people who don't like to always be around so many people as people are STUPID!. I also never go to ppls rooms when they need something. I just let them know that because this isn't a full service hotel, I don't have anyone to take whatever it is up to your room but I can leave it here at the front desk for when you are ready to come and pick it up. I also charge the shit out of people who want to come and check in at 2, 3am!. Lol... And when they ask me why rate is so high I just say. Well, I'm sorry but I don't control what the rate is, it's controlled by corporate office. I do this just because of people that come in smelling like weed and the prostitution that goes on. I rather always keep these people away as it'll make it harder for me to if I wanted to nap for 10 mins. I just answer the phone just to make sure if someone is calling from a room everything is okay and no one is out in the hallways making noises. In the end. I do really enjoy my job. I hate that it has to be at night time but it's better this than nothing. Plus, anyone working this kind of job should always find a hobby or school or just find another you can do on the side. Like. A kind of call center you can do while working still in the hotel using your laptop or something.

You must have sooo much fun!
At which hotel and do you guys need any help? ;)
What about your health and mental health ?
Thanks for posting this! I was just hired for a hotel night audit job and was trying to find out more about it. This was a nice little insight into what I'll be doing.
Lew Tron how’s the job going? I start training tomorrow
I love the role as night auditor. At my hotel I have to do laundry, which is kind of a buzz kill. One, I suck at it lol Two, I've been given more admin/marketing work, but still need to make sure my laundry gets done. So, it pretty much turned my laid back, low stress job, into...well...not lol
That has been my experience, I'd be hard-pressed to think you will have the same.
The night auditor job itself tho, is pretty good. It's pretty laid back, you don't need to have any accounting experience, despite "auditor" being in the name. lol
I dunno if you've done overnights before, but they can take getting use to, and what works for some might not work for others.
I LOVE IT
That's awesome! I'm glad you're loving it :)
I’m interviewing tomorrow.
How are you liking it?
Are you still there?
I’m excited !
Thanks I am about to start work as a night porter for the first time. This makes me feel good that it is a quite and easy job which is what I need at the moment after having poor health a stressful IT career.
i know this feeling
Just started as a night auditor. Thanks for the info!
Thanks for the video. I'm applying for night audit
Sam Erickson great good luck! I hope you get it!
When I walk into work. I get happy to see that there is no more check ins lol
I love doing Night Audit. I typically don't run audit till 2am. Since 11pm-2pm I check in house if they have breakfast, assign rooms print out reg cards, and get everything ready for the next day. lol
Lucky you I usually have 100 rooms to be checked in after 11 pm Airport hotels 😉
I'm studying hotel management, thanks for this ^^
Started to work as night auditor for the first time ever. It can be challenging, but mostly it's quiet. Depends on hotel if night auditor has to set up breakfast or not.
This job from hotel to hotel differs a lot.
I couldn't believe that we don't have to set up breakfast at our hotel. We have a breakfast attendee...miracle!!! 😉😂😂😂
@@Clintsessentials Lucky! We have to set up breakfast, and we STILL have an attendee that comes in! It’s like WTF?! Why I gotta do the hardest part?! It ain’t “hard”, but it takes me away from the a$$ loads of laundry I gotta do. 😡
@@ralphkramden2089 riiiiiiiight???
Thanks for the info, I have an interview soon and it's good to know what the job is like.
That’s a Fairfield Inn ...I can tell by the lights and juice maker!
#lifeofauditors
Thanks for the vid. I've been looking into a new job that's a little more relaxed/less stressful.
Same I'm in retail and it's getting hectic now a days
Same.
Same ! I’m a call specialist for the state everyone tells me how they can’t afford to survive and it weighs on me 😔
I have a love hate relationship with night audit. On the good nights it’s good and the bad nights can get real bad real quick. Also I usually tell the guest to come get what they need at the desk since you never know what kind of creeps are checking in. 😳😭
Show us the laundry room please
Lol you no when you work at hotels a lot when ya start recognizing the designs of hotels, I can tell that’s a Fairfield inn. XD I’ve been night auditing for 6 years now.
Facts when I saw the background I turned around to look at mines I was like okayyy Fairfield lol
Yup lol
Nice! Im working in hotel too. Hope can watch more another video. Keep working! 😁
Again thank you
I'm trying to figure out what my first job should be since Im graduating high school in a few months! Thx for posting. This is helpful :)
have you ended up applying at hotels or work at one?
@@delayedjustright8192 No sadly.
@@jasmineellis1159 not too scary well for men but it's safe even for women cameras are everywhere and plus theirs plenty of guest safe bet
Shortly after lockdowns were slowly being eased, we had to perform in room dining duties. It was difficult but manageable as long as we all on board with the same goal and the same page.
I work at a hotel too. I do all shifts.. past month I’ve been doing night audits 11pm - 7am
Hi there, mind me asking what education do you have?
The Mindset Traveller marketing degree and broadcasting degree. No longer working at hotel though
this is really helpful thanks
i'm thinking of going into this business
I do night audit and I never go to a guest room. They have to come at the desk.
RUN!
Lol that's growing up and honestly it's never to late to learn a trade
honestly thinking about getting this job to use the down time to learn coding. if there really is that much downtime learning a skill doesn’t sound dumb at all.
Me as well I’m not the best in math but I need this job as I’ll be going to school in the morning
Did you end up liking itv
This is great thank you for your video! I wanted to know more about the job and this really helped.
Hola hogan616. Nice to meet you. I'm learning auditoría nocturna at my work at my job. Hoy trabajo a las 10 en ¡Cancún! 🇲🇽
"If I get stuck on an elevator I'm the only one that can call for help" 😂
It seems like a horror movie for me. Surely I am a morning recepcionist 🤷🏼♀️
its 1235 am and im about to start my audit soon. good vlog!
I see you’re at a Fairfield me too!
as a night auditor...my favorite part of my shift is when i go out and smoke pot at the fire pit....truly a calm feeling
Lol your full of crap
I’m new about 6 months and want to know what it looks like to balance food and drinks. My hotel doesn’t have food or drinks so I want see what that looks like. I am a fast learner.
😊
You make it look so lovely and great spirits you have, very attractive.
This was so helpful
U can close without waiting for any arrival, like the arrival can be as a day use after you switch the night
I need night auditor friends. Lol. Since we live the same life it would be cool to have texting buds at work.
Lmao exactly 😂
@@ashk7431 I was calling a former Hotel Manager for a job recommendation at Costco, and he said where he is now he could use me. I am happy working for him in the residential apartment business. So I am 68 now and see myself working till 70 then retiring and doing some traveling.
@@davidgabrie1302 1600 rooms. JUST WOW.....
Its so interesting to see what its like for other night auditors
People swear up and down that being a night auditor is easy. I just got hired as one and the few hours I had of day training felt very stressful, I've got zero experience working really any kind of front desk position. Is it a normal thing for it to be slow then to be slammed all at once with customers checking in?
Yes
I been working at hotel lots of years but as a bellboy. Great storys, Lovely tips and lot of free time
Now im older and Im Gonna start as a night auditor.
You can....take the trashout, fold sheets, wash sheets, do laundry, security check, pre pare coffee and breakfast, ect lol
I have been working night audit for about 2 months now and I love it! I see over your shoulder that you use FOSSE as well. 😂
Have u dealt with crazies ? I’m trying to find a weekend only job I see three hotels so far that have this job . I work part time but I want another thing for weekend only . I have heard stories of people begin robbed . So I might just have a dummy phone with me or something and small wallet
What scares me is getting killed or hurt at night by either a robber or a drunk or drug addict other than that this job would be perfect for me.
I’m in Canada it’s the easiest job ever Ive had a few drunken check-ins but it’s not bad at all
Hace unos años vi tu video y me parecio genial, muy simpática.
@@anaaraiza51 Thanks for the reply !! Wishing you all the best 👍
Pot uhh 0

Fellow night auditor and youtuber ! Salute
Night auditor level of difficulty does vary by level of lodgings, ownership, and location. Currently I have to call loo be on average 3-4 times per month, I carry pepper spray when do rounds, had to use it less than 2 months ago,
This is the perfect job for me
I thought about doing this.. you did it better than I could lol
The day closure switches days the audit is to check revenue and reconcile the daily charges.
How to deal with shitty guests ? It’s my first shift on my own and I don’t feel like I’ve been shown enough 💀😂
Hey Shay I’m the same way and very anxious about my role if I get considered for the job how did it go for you ?
So the paper pretty much tells you what to do on the computers?
بارك الله فيك اخي ❤
We use FOSSE too at Courtyard!😀
I am night auditor call me 2087883964 Fabio
What software do you use ??? Is it opera ???
I have been doing night auditor at the hotel, special the best western. Waiting when the Manager go to sleep take my chair, and took a nap under the front desk..sometimes guests caught me sleeping...I just don't care...
Lol. Did they train you or were you experienced
Yes, they trained me and until now I am still working in the domain
Great video thank you!
Thanks for making this video! I've been thinking of working at a hotel.
I am from Saudi. I work as guest service agent in Movenpick hotel 5 stars. I do the night run and almost like you. Except that we have a team working with me. I enjoyed your video. It is very important job and in the future you can work as night manager. ❤
working night audit at a red roof inn during corona is the easiest job
Stairs are my enemy now. I have a stress fracture in my left foot that broke and healed at least twice. And I have a heel spur in my right.
