Hi there! Thanks for sharing those gorgeous plants!it really givese positive energy! Glad to meet you here! And happy gardening watching from Japan!💕☺️🌿🌿
Good Morning to you on this sunny Sunday here in Florida. Thanks for stopping by and checking out these versatile plants, They are truly a strikingly beautiful plants.
Heliconia's are found throughout the Neotropics and are actually quite common in the rainforest. They are also often found as ornamental plants in gardens and landscaped areas. I would say to find them in the US I would go to a garden grower or a garden house that already sells them.
Could a cat become itchy from being around this plant? My cat doesn't chew plants.. but has recently started scratching and I wonder if it's plant allergy
Hai Becky I plant heliconia rostrata for about 2 years now. The plant grow bushy and having a nice leaf... But there no flower at all... It spread about 2 to 3 meter already ... I plant it on the ground my climate is tropical ... I am considering to change it to another plant if the plant still don't flower in another 3 month How can I make those lobster claw flower.. Thanks Becky ...
They won't bloom without enough sun, which is easy enough to remedy by keeping them in a pot and moving it around until finding the perfect spot. But you have them in the ground. In the south they like to be in part shade. My false are giving blooms. My real one is only pooping up leaves.tropical Ginger and the Bird of Paradise. There are nearly 200 species of Heliconia, and all come from tropical forest areas, with the large majority coming from the tropical Americas. I do believe this is the type you have as you stated. They bloom once to three times per year, and flowers take two-years to show on new plants, so patience is a virtue when growing this tropical beauty.
Thanks Becky for the answer... What if i take part of it and plant it in pot and move it to sunny area to see if these plant will bloom... It's been two years and I already forgot what kind of lobster claw I have... Hahahaha
@@hevelynnalexanderrazak4331 Heliconia rostrata is what you told me. Yes you may do that. Sooty it has not bloomed for you yet they are quit beautiful. I would not give up on them yet. If you find the right place then just transplant the rest there. Then you still we have space to plant a new plant. Best fertilizer for heliconia is a good quality, slow time-release fertilizer with an NPK ratio of 2-1-2 is a good choice. I hope this helps out and your baby’s bloom.
@@beckymiller4441 thanks again Becky ..as far as I remember.. but my sister said I got it wrong she said there's a sexy word on it... I cannot remember it but for sure it is lobster claw ... I'll try to do whatever you advise me to do... And thanks for the firterlizer tips... Thanks again Becky ... Lot of love...
Hi there! I accidentally overwatered my potted heliconia because the leaves were curled , and it RAPIDLY turned yellow. The soil dried out super quick but now I’m left with yellow curled leaves. And even the green leaves have continued to stay curled. What are other reasons that the leaves can stayed curled up for so long? It was doing so well until now :(
Check the roots to make sure there is no root rot. If the roots are damaged, you will need to repot your plant. This is nice to do every 2-3 years to provide fresh nutrients and encourage new growth. If the roots are fine, simply let the plant dry out before watering again. If the leaves on your Bird of Paradise are curling inward, the cause is most likely also under watering. To let your plant replenish its moisture, give it a good shower. Remove the plant from its decorative pot and place in a shower, bathtub, or outside. Give it a thorough watering, allowing it to drain all the excess out before putting back in the pot. Depending on how dry the plant is, you may also allow it to sit in water for an hour or two.
Hi! I am sorry to hear this. But I do state both in the video and description about the video that they are invasive and you can contain them in a pot if you wish. They are pretty but there is also many different kinds. The one in the video is not a true Birds of Paradise.
it spreads but i believe its a rhizome kind of spread.. it grows from under the ground, the farthest is just next to the mother plant..haha.. its quite containable.

Thanks for this video! I love these plants. I had no idea the standard ones can get so tall! I’m glad you told me about the dwarf variety.
Super! I totally agree with you on that. I am glad this video let you know there is a smaller size out there!
good video, where is the place of production of heliconias? I can find it on the internet?
Thanks!
