Hey, could you please tell me what's about the 2020 e-golf ? I mean I thought there was only the phase 2 relooked in end of 2017 with his 136hp (35.8kw/h). Did your reseller have told you specificly about a 2020 version when you bought it ? To be honest I'm french, so it's really easy for us to get one e-golf in 2020, as they are currently solding a lot of their last e-golf in stock (so manufactured in 2019 but 2018 version), and they stopped all the orders for this model. I'm just wondering if it's a good deal for me to get e-golf in 2020; as the other brands are releasing models with more than 217miles of autonomy (approved by the new WLTP rule), while the golf has "only" 143miles. Btw, I'm not even sure it's the same version for the USA lol. Thx
I drove a 2016 for 3 years and I can say the features and interior make this car awesome. i JUST wish that it had more range like a Tesla or a Chevy Bolt
I have had mine for x6 months and love it as a daily, short commute car. My 2011 BMW M3 and 2012 VW Touareg sit in the garage as it is unlikely that any car could beat the 2017 VW eGolf for daily use. I love its torque, rapid acceleration, smooth/quiet ride and the fact that no trips to the gas station are necessary. Mine is full of amenities such as Car Play, Bluetooth, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, rear view camera, etc which are available in much more expensive cars. Mine was about $20K w 8,000 miles which I consider a great value.
I can't say for sure.....but I think the noise you are hearing at low speeds is the sway bar. I have a 2019 and it did that from day 1. It was in the rear for me and I only noticed it at slow speeds as well, maybe because road noise blocked it out at higher speeds. But after taking it in they said the rear sway bar was cracked and so it creaked. Safe to drive, but I didn't like it because everything else was so quiet. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the egolf reviews, hard to find quality content like this on this vehicle. For what it’s worth I’m a battery engineer and I think the egolf has some of the best (most reliable) cells in it so I’m looking at buying one (also the dealer deals are crazy). One thing I am wondering is hows the highway range? I’ve got in-laws 120 miles away and obviously on a major interstate that’d be pushing the range too much. Luckily there are DC fast chargers right off the route. I’m just wondering how much less the range might be at 70-75mph for the once a month or less trip out there. Thanks so much again for these reviews.
You can checkout my play list to get the full run down. The rims are Golf R wheels and the lights came from BEC Auto Parts but they are no longer in business :(
I like everything about the e-golf (well, for my purposes it would fit nicely), but I hear that the battery is not liquid cooled/heated. Have you had any issues with degradation due to temp extremes? I live in a hot weather state (Florida) so this could be important.
Haven’t had any issue and have a friend with an older one that’s got higher mileage and he’s seen little change as well. Temps aren’t especially hot here though
@@DrivenCompanion Cool. Good to know. I was also considering the BMW i3, but the tires seem very skinny to me, and apparently they are super expensive to replace because of their rarity (like $250 each). Thanks for the info!
You'll be a little on the edge if doing interstate driving or using AC. You'd probably make it but it would be a little close for my comfort - if you can charge in the middle you'd definitely be good.
Have you done your first year maintenance? I am at 12K now and the required dealer maintenance schedule for the first year seems like a joke for 10K miles. However I don't know if it will void my warranty if I don't get it done and wait until I hit 20K for the full service?
I'm only sitting at 9K miles so no maintenance at this point - but I agree it seems like a waste of money. Thats the beauty of an electric vehicle - virtually zero maintenance!
Hi Mike, looking to buy a 2017+ e-Golf within next year or so, i’ve just got a quick question since you changed your alloys wheels has there been a difference in mileage range?
Nice car! Is there a back up for if the battery dies and you're too far away from the next charging station? Like a back up charger to get you a few miles further? Alternative to towing? Thanks:-)!
Agreed. I considered a Tesla Model 3 which would have cost about 3 times as much but figured at $16K after tax credits I'd just use this as an around town vehicle and use our other car for out of town trips.
Still love it. I'd defintely go with a 2017+ for the longer range and don't plan on taking long trips with it. Range drops drastically at highway speeds and on steep climbs. We just use it for short trips around town and for that only need to plug in a couple times a week.
Great video! Is yours the SE trim? I have a 2019 SE and I would love to replace the stock halogen lights with those like yours of the Golf-R headlights. Any advice on that is welcome!
Thank you for the video! Are you able to ask to the car to charge only during the night or to finish the charging time at the time you need to drive the car. Is it possible to heat the car before to go inside the car to drive? Sorry for my English!
I believe that you can do both if you have VWs subscription service, but that will cost extra. Without it I don't think either is possible. You may be able to use a smart outlet to schedule charging times though.

You'll see a huge drop in range at speeds of 70-75. I'd guess range would be 80-100 miles if you're driving that fast.
The car looks pretty nice and simple. Hopefully VW makes an updated version sometime with a larger range.
