That is a really really interesting technique AND sound philosophy…that love harp type ring out. And the mando sounds like it loves ringing out. What model is it? It’s lovely. Well done all involved.

    Love your channel.
I keep going back and forth on if I want to start learning the mandolin or not. Never been a big fan of bluegrass music, and that seems to be the common genre.

Violin/fiddle is used in musics all over the world. Mandolin is just its easier sibling. It has frets so we do not have to (fret)! Check out the 100 odd non-bluegrass tunes I have adapted to the mandolin. It is the best and easiest melodic instrument. An example of 10 tunes is here: ruclips.net/video/mS62hN4hWlk/видео.html

I never play bluegrass, there's so much more to the mandolin. I play folk, rock and broadly spealing "world music". It's beautiful.

Try an Octave mandolin.Less bluegrassy , more resonance. wider variety of what you can do with it that’s the way I went. I sold my mandolin and got an octave and so much happier I actually to mine as a Mandola so there’s a variety of tunings, Are tune it as a mandolin. And it will be an octave lower than a regular mandolin.

Hey Baron ive searched through all of your lessons and you surprisingly dont have a lesson for Boston boy. Ive looked everywhere and there is no in depth decent lesson on youtube. I know its a little more advanced song but it would be awesome if you could do a lesson on it

He's cross picking. A bluegrass picker invented cross picking. Go look up Jim and Jesse.
