    I’m so glad I found your tutorial!!! I was close to abandoning the cardigan I was working on because the pattern called for a double knit button band but didn’t have clear instructions on how to do it (I admit I may have picked a pattern that was more advanced than my intermediate knitting level). Your instructions were so clear - I loved how mine turned out and now feel more confident to try it again on more projects😊

      that makes me sooo happy to know that someone already used it successfully for a project!!! i definitely found double-knit button bands intimidating before i tried one, but it really is one of those things that feels a lot clearer once you're able to see it being done!

    Thanks for this video! Very useful and clear! Can I ask what the inside of the seam to the button-hole looks like? Does it have a ridge at all? Thanks!

    • @starcrossedknits
      @starcrossedknits  Месяц назад

      do you mean the inside seam of the button band? it does have a slight raised edge from where you're picking up stitches. the buttonholes themselves don't have a raised edge

  • @kimwilliams1217

    Thank you for this video. What I don't understand is how you pick up stitches around the entire band from one bottom edge all the way around the neck to the other bottom edge all at one time. Would you not need a very long cable on your needles. I have yet to see a tutorial where they have shown the process of picking up around the entire neck so I'm having trouble picturing how it is done. Your tutorial is the best I have seen so far but I wish it had shown an entire garment with all of the stitches picked up.

    • @starcrossedknits
      @starcrossedknits  6 месяцев назад

      Yes you do need a long cable! I would use a 40" (100cm) cable. If you don't have a cable long enough, you can also pick it up across multiple needles, like when one cable length runs out then just switch to the next needle, though that does need you to have multiple circular needles that are close in needle size to each other. I hear you though, sorry I wasn't able to include that in this tutorial!

    When picking up stitches do you still pick up one stitch on the point where the v-neck starts?

    • @starcrossedknits
      @starcrossedknits  4 месяца назад +1

      by “where the v-neck starts” do you mean the bottom of the v neck like at the front? if so then yes. if you mean where the front shoulder stitches meet the back of the neck, then no you could skip a stitch there

      And are you blocking your cardigan before you make the border band?

    • @starcrossedknits
      @starcrossedknits  4 месяца назад +1

      @@MyYvonne45 personally i did not- but i did block my gauge swatches, for both the cardigan and the double-knitting gauge swatch (as many people have different tension in double knitting, and you want the row gauge to match or you want to pick up according to the row gauge ratio). i prefer to block once everything is complete!

    Why do we choose a double knit band?

    • @starcrossedknits
      @starcrossedknits  4 месяца назад +1

      it looks like stockinette stitch, but lays flat (unlike stockinette, which curls). so it's a nice option when you don't want the look of a ribbed button band :) i think it adds a really nice and neat looking finished edge

    • @tightKnit

      Because it's pretty and gives the sweater a polished finish
