The song lyrics seem to imply they were destined for some other fate than this, but of course with the Elden Ring shattered, that wasn't to be. And of course, the Golden One (Marika?) was angry at the Greater Will probably, after she realised the Golden Order was not as pure as one thought.

@@howlingarmadillo I dunno about that. If you look at the translation of the lyrics (they're in latin), you'll find they're lamenting the shattering of the elden ring and the general shitty state of the world. I think if they wanted to lure people in they probably wouldn't bother with such specific lyrics and would try to sound a bit more... alluring? In any case, it seems like a song sung out of genuine emotion.
It's facets of both things. Much like the Land Octopus' ovaries only function with human blood, it seems like the winged dames also require sacrifice for their reproductive processes. The Serpent-God's Curved Sword underneath the Land Octopus on the Ruin Strewn Precipice in particular where they exist along with the bats strongly telegraphs that implicit relationship. When the Golden Order is established and the Rune of Death gets sealed away, it also dooms all of them to a fate where they're barren of having children, _because it's breaking the natural life cycle of the world._ That's why burning the Erdtree & accepting the role of Destined Death also applies to you is the core requirement for you to become Elden Lord.
Something funny about the Bats in elden ring is that apperantly they are at war with the Demi Humans. You can find groups of them fighting in many regions of the game.
@@AssailantLF there is a group of them in caelid that is near the troll that throws Jars around and they are surrounded by the bats. There is a video on youtute that talks about them and their culture and how they are rivals with the bats. Lemme see if I can find it
I just call them Sirens. Sirens in Greek myth can be found both as mermaids and as harpy-like creatures, so I always just took this as Elden Ring sirens are bat women instead of bird women
The thorns at their feet might relate to them being "Guilty" of something. Like, the staff of the guilty guilty. Other than that, I don't know what to make of these ladies. What in oblivion are they...?
These ladies are the one thing I personally sought to find out what they were lorewise when the game came out. The song enchanted me. The best I gathered is this: The variants with the crown resembles the headpiece of the finger reader crones, but more decorated. All female, also not unlike the crones. Based off the lyric translation, they had an understanding of the Golden Order/Greater Will. The braided hair is a sign of prestige and royalty in the lands between, showcased in many of the bosses and NPCs from Miquella to the Marias'. My theory is this: perhaps these creatures once served a role in the hierarchy in an age before the current order, as the current order shuns and reviles all manner of beings that hold vestiges of the crucible (wings, horns, scales, etc.) My hope is that we'll actually see a variant of these ladies in the dlc, being the only common npc with voice lines and the dlc seemingly being somewhat about things outside the order and lands between.
@@vyrdera That actually makes a lot of sense in my eyes. That they relate to the crucible and that they were once Nobles of clergymen to whatever existed before the golden Order. And now their beliefs are deemed heretical and they have been exiled. They don't use Crucible Incantations of any kind, though. And I can't make out a connection to the other bat enemies. when I first encountered these on my playthrough I was wondering where that strange singign was coming from then died violently due to making the mistake of getting too close to it.
Like many things in Elden Ring the first encounter is the best when you hear singing and find one of these it’s amazing. Sadly they didn’t have infinite development time to make this a one time encounter.
Hey @BonfireVN, a little -bird- Winged Dame has whispered to me that in SotE, we will get lore about the Cleanrot Knights regarding their name and their wings. Would you be so kind as to make a video about them?
Do we know what the lore on these things is yet? These and the finger creepers puzzle me so much. They're clearly somehow related to death because they can summon rancor, but that's all I got.
Does anyone know what exactly these things are? I mean I know they are noble women that have been transformed in to these beasts but what I want to know is why and how?
They are omens. They are living beings forsaken by the erdtree because they were born with wings which before the erdtree or the the golden order. wings, horns, and feathers were signifiers of the blessed. Now, they are considered omens who are belittled by the golden order and are said to not be able to be brought back to the roots of the erdtree for rebirth or in other words, no reviving. That's why when you kill one, they don't turn to dust but are just there as a corpse you can use as a ragdoll toy.
We have no idea because nothing in the game references them at all. The other commentor is confounding Omens (factually cursed beings inhabited by evil spirits, who are not themselves evil or anything like that, but are nonetheless hated) with the Misbegotten, who are a second-class human citizens by the standards of the Golden Order, born with animalistic traits such as tails, horns, wings or scales. In antiquity this would have been seen as a blessing but are now discriminated upon. Many things in the game reference the departure from an ideal of "nature" into "civilization" My best guess for the bat-ladies, is that they are cursed in some way. Their song is a lamentation for their current state, and in song they refer to themselves as "destined to motherhood" but "forsaken" from that fate. The last line in their lyrics implies that this is all Marika's fault, and dares to ask at whom was Marika so angry to shatter the Ring and cause all this. The Two Fingers do say that since the shattering of the Ring the land is full of curses, after all.
