    Thank you so much for sharing. I also own a Picture Mate 400 and a Canon IP8700, which is a wide format printer. I started to print at home all of the time a few years back when I found that the print quality at many places went down. Or places that I once used and loved, closed. One thing I wanted to say is that I buy my paper from Red River papers. I absolutely love the quality of the papers and I find that I never have to hope that Amazon has what I need. You should check it out! My favorite is the 68lb. UltraPro Satin 4.0 paper.

    I bought a Picture Mate PM-400 on your recommendation four years ago, and it has been a total GAME CHANGER!!! It's one of those things that if it broke today, I'd buy a new one tomorrow!

    Thank you so much for this video. I've returned back to scrapbooking, memory keeping and paper crafting after a 15 year hiatus. Previously I relied on my super convenient local Costco for 1 hour basic printing. I could upload the night before and have photos ready the next day. It was a glorious system, then they shuttered their 1 hr photo. I've tried some (great quality!) online printing options, but the process and the plan-ahead (plus the shipping time + costs) have resulted in less storytelling because of the delay in getting the photos printed. Your philosophy and thoughts about telling the story now (vs waiting for more archival versions to be processed) hit me like a ton of bricks. If I tell the story NOW with a photo printed at home, I have that photo (and its resulting story!) for my and my family's immediate sharing. No waiting and no memory keeping pushed back and procrastinated and stories not told because I had to plan the photos. Once I let go of the idea that everything needed to be the ultimate archival quality it was like I saw the light. Thank you.

    For December Daily, I use an at home printer, but for Week in the Life, I send them off for printing, because I batch process that project. I wait until I have decided which pictures I will include. Since it is more systematic...1 6x8 per day, 4 4x6s per day and so many 3x4s per day, I just send it all out at once. When they all come in, I can always reprint if I need something different. I think that sending them out for print may be cheaper than home printing, but I do appreciate the flexibility of printing on demand. Another thing to consider is how often you print. When I step away for too long, my ink jet printer heads dry out and clog. So I try to print weekly at a minimum. Thanks for sharing these tips. My Canon is almost too dirty to continue so I will be looking for a new one in the coming year. I am excited to see if there are any ink savings options (besides generic) and what new technology will allow! For example, I have always been in love with the idea of printing white on colored cardstock! I am looking forward to the day when that becomes more readily available and a good price point.

      Yes! The how-often you print at home piece is important - I included something about that in the blog post but didn't say it in the video.

    I love how you look at the issue of home printing. I, too, need the immediacy and flexibility of making that happen at home. When I started memory journey I used a HP 2410 all-in-one ink jet. I adored it. It came with a free program called HP IMAGE ZONE which was perfect, simple and very easy to make all kinds of products. It died after 7 years. I mourned it. Then umber one need for me is that I can design 8x10collage prints. I never use the collage, but it enables me to print many different size pictures using my paper very efficiently. So, I bought the newest version of my beloved machine. I have had three photo specific printers from Hp and each has been progressively worse. The photo editing features on the new machines is a joke, and my newest version doesn't even acknowledge an 8x10 piece of photo paper. Eeeek!
    Now that I told you how I want to use it, what would you recommend? I have photshop elements and feel like it does far more than I need, and I don't find it easy at all. I have Android tech in my house so I can't even apple it. Help get me back to the memory keeping I love!

    I am new to printing my photos at home and one of the biggest things I've struggled with is finding a photo print program that I can understand and is easy. Our printer is an HP ENVY Photo 7155 and I have struggled with the quality of it's printing also. This was an excellent video!

    When I thought about what was holding me back from getting my projects done it all came down to printing the photos. That is when I put the PictureMate on my wish list. Fortunately for me I received one this Christmas. It has been a game changer! I have so much more flexibility with my projects. I can print from my phone or from my computer. I do prefer to print from my computer as editing is easier. Thank you for the recommendation for the Matte Presentation paper. I want to do more hybrid/digital scrapbooking this year.

    Finally watched this. Thank you. Very helpful. I have canon pm100 which I love and prints 13x9. I’ve learned that my photo paper matters. Better paper translates to better prints. I print mostly at home for all of your reasons. I do love persnickety prints. Used them a lot with project life and especially when I was using the collect app. Have a selphy but don’t love the size of the prints. The Epson is on my someday list. Had an older model once upon a time. Used it a lot. I also print from our local camera store but not as often as I did. Love printing at home.

    I have always printed at home and I much prefer Eason printers. I have an old Picture Mate 350 I think. We can’t get the 400 here in Australia. Recently I needed to replace my large format printer. It took me a few years to make a decision on which one would work the best but eventually I bought the 15000. You recommendation went a long way. I like to edit and print my photos to the size I want as I design and come up with my pages. I love the freedom and flexibility.

    I print at home, I have a Canon Pro-100 which can print 13x19, I use Luster paper. I find it takes a lot a space, it is much bigger than your Epson. Difficult to know how many times I buy ink because I don't change them all at once, (8 different colours). I do collages in Photoshop that I save as a jpeg and then print through Lightroom because that is the best quality I get with the Canon Printer's program. I know, it sounds complicated but that is what seems to print better. I would like to buy the Epson for the 4x6 photos for my Project Life, I think it would save me a lot of time!

    I remember being excited when the older versions of the Picturemate released! Currently I’m primarily Print at Home because it works for how I memory-keep. I found that if I preplanned my layouts and sent out my photos to be printed elsewhere the stories I wanted to tell changed. I use a Canon Pixma for my larger photos & I bought the PM-400 a few years ago & print a variety of sizes both from my phone and through photoshop. The proprietary paper for the selphy annoyed me so I never bought it.

    I always look forward to these Friday videos! I do half and half; half the time I print at home using my HP Envy Photo 7155 and the other half I send to Persnickety prints. I usually send an order out for my December Daily because of the shear amount of photos.

    Hi Ali, I just got "your" Epson 15000 and was wondering if you have some good recommendations for the best settings for color and b&w printing, including printing borderless(from Lightroom I cannot make it work for the life of me). Any tips and tricks would be really appreciated; RUclips is not a very friendly place for this printer, apparently... thank you!

    • @AliEdwardsDesignInc
      @AliEdwardsDesignInc  2 года назад

      Hi! I don't use Lightroom so I'm not able to speak to that related to the borders. In most programs I use it gives me the option to select both sizes - such as 8.5x11 OR 8.5x11 borderless. In terms of color when printing from Photoshop I have it set to let Photoshop manage the colors and use the Epson Standard RGB printer profile.

    Most of my printing is also done at home, but a lot of my pictures were printed originally from film back in the 70's - 90's. I always make a digital copy of an original photo that I use, or I will reprint it because it has faded or because the printing technics were not good for longevity color prints. I also have a ton of legacy photos from the family that go back to the 20's& 30's that are almost always black & white. When I do a reprint of an old photo I always use 600 dpi. Does that use more ink than 300 dpi? Cost is an issue for me since I am retired.

      I really like having a dedicated 4x6 printer. The 15000 doesn’t have a separate tray to just hold 4x6 paper (so I would need to load it each time). I’ve also traveled with the picture mate and that’s been fun to print and craft on some trips.
