You guys have been asking for these mallets for a while now, so I hope you enjoy today's video! Thank you so much for watching and please give me a THUMBS UP if you enjoyed this episode! P.S. stick around to the sound test to hear excerpts from MY NEW PIECE! #TheStudioFamily
The mallets are great, but I like the excerpts from your piece even more! I'm excited to see the whole work! I happen to compose myself as well. 😅 Thank you for the great content Adam. 😁 Can't wait for the next one.
Thank you so much! You should share some of your works too, I'd love to hear them! I'm not a composer yet ahaha, just someone who likes playing marimba ;)
Your excerpt sounds amazing!!! I've been replaying it over and over again I probably listened to it at least 20 times. I can't wait till u start selling it
Krish Shahidadpury I sort of think of simple themes first before embellishing them and then finally putting them into a structure, that for me is the hardest part hwha
i know this is pretty minor but i really like how to camera is placed like this in the sound tests. It seems to usually be near the end of one side but i like how it is in the middle. also great piece!
Hello @Adam tan ! i really want to buy keiko abe mallet but i don't no wich one between mk-05 and mk-06, i research a good set of marimba mallets for all the repertoire... if you had some advice on the hardness :)
could you please please PLEASE do a review of the Casey Cangelosi series of mallets by IP? I know you don't do a lot with IP, but it would make my day if you found a way to get them and review them.
If you don't already have a video on it, could you make one detailing mallet grips? I've only just started becoming familiar with 4-mallet playing for college this fall, and I'm only slightly accustomed to Stevens and cross grip. Love the channel! I ordered 4 of these mallets after watching this video. :)
Sure thing man! I've been trying to figure out a nice way to make a grip video and it's tricky cause my grip isn't the best, but I'll give it a go! Maybe in the next Q&A :) And congratulations on your new mallets!
Beautiful playing and awesome review, as always! I have the keikos in birch, not using anything else at the moment after getting them hahaha Much love from Bris!
Definitely! So happy to hear about your awesome opportunities in Malaysia! Great to see this channel doing amazing too! Can't wait for more studio content! :D
You can get them on Steve Weiss Percussion for about $40 USD (about $52.01 AUD) per pair. That's how I got mine (I use my IP275's for most of my two mallet solos)
Hey Adam! I think you should try out and maybe even do a video review of Mars or Jupiter mallets from a new company called 0gravitypercussion. Their mallets look amazing and I bet they'd sound amazing as well!
Something to consider every major percussionist will tell you that the use of the back the three fingers or letting go of the shaft is purely for instruments with rebound and also I don't know of this intentional but you are using way too much arm for four mallets chords/harmonies and you keep downstroking the last note every time
That is an interesting point! I agree about the way too much arm point, I think I was trying to do the heavy chord effect a bit too much. Thanks for pointing it out :)
Thank you so much! Sheets will be up for download once I'm done with it, its about 60% done at the moment! Look out for my 'online premiere' soon ahahaha
If you mean like articulate ensemble type mallets and you want high end, maybe something like the Colin Currie series from Marimba One! Or Pius Cheung from Innovative Percussion :)
Love the piece!! It sounds great. Kind of reminds me of sugaria a bit though hahahah but overall it was a great piece. Cant wait for the whole piece to be out.
Hey Adam do you think you will be able to review vibe mallets if the One Vibe gets sent over to the studio? I have some vibe mallets I have been looking to purchase some mallets (such as the Gary Burton's, Tony Micelli's, Dave Samuels etc.), but never know which ones might be best.
Leigh Howard Stevens mallets? I just studied with him this week and I'm a little undecided about it. Definitely a certain circumstance mallet, not very general if you ask me!
im looking for my first set of marimba mallets . Do you think is a good idea to buy 4 of "keiko Abe mka 08" ? or do i have to combine with another harder pair?
How much do you think you'll sell your piece for? And will you distribute it independently or through a publishing company? I'd really love to play this for my next recital/jury in uni!
I just don’t know if i want to buy some erho marimba mallets or some of these Keiko Abe mallets, and if I do buy some, i would like to buy about 3 sets to start. Which 3 types would you recommend i should start with?
Im curious what the difference between the S7s and the 7s are. yamahas website labels them as both "very soft", but the regular 7 has double the thickness of the rubber stopper in the core. So I'm note sure if i wanted to graduate them to get an S7 or a 7. When you graduated them, did the 7 feel very different with the other mallets, both in tone and ergonomics?
Adam, watch your stroke technique as your mallets (both right and left) are inverting instead of perfectly stroking at a vertical angle. One might say, "So What"; it really does hinder full value of tone production, not to mention accuracy of note precision. Seek the masters of the xylophone reels from yesteryear and notice the magnificence of their technique. These individuals can teach all of us! Jim
Yes they can be over time as the bars start to shed and waver due to heat etc, but most modern marimbas have well treated wood that can prevent from being out of tune if kept indoors at a good temperature!
Hey Adam, your piece is sounding absolutely stunning! Any way, I think you should look at some super duper generic mallets. Something from Stagg or Innovative. Like maybe these www.staggmusic.com/en/products/view/SMMWM *OR* these innovativepercussion.com/products/f1_5 I've used the Innovatives, and they were better than I thought they would be.
Love the piece!! It sounds great. Kind of reminds me of sugaria a bit though hahahah but overall it was a great piece. Cant wait for the whole piece to be out.

I love the new piece so much!!! Shame my marimba is not a 5-octv. :c
Thank you so much! It can be played on a 4.3 octave, just has to be transposed up ahahaha ;)
OMG 😱 That piece sounded amazing 👌.....that was just...wow....wonderful
Thank you! I'm glad you like it, and there's a story behind the piece too but I'll say more about it when I release it :)
Looking forward to your piece. Best of luck to you upon its completion among your other endeavors ✌️😬
Thank you so much! I hope it sounds good when I'm done :) And thank you for your support!
Hey Adam! Love your videos :) would it be possible for you to review the rest of the Marimba One Double Helix Series?
Double Helix pleeeease
I'll see if I can get hold of the rest of the series! I know the DHB2s are quite popular and they're probably my favourite of the series :)
Your excerpt sounds amazing!!! I've been replaying it over and over again I probably listened to it at least 20 times. I can't wait till u start selling it
20 times! Wowee thank you so much, I hope it's worth the wait 😄
Adam Tan how do you come up with ideas for writing a solo cause I wanna start writing some and I wanna know your thought process behind it?
Krish Shahidadpury I sort of think of simple themes first before embellishing them and then finally putting them into a structure, that for me is the hardest part hwha
Your piece is great! Love to hear the finished product
Thank you so much! I hope it's worth the wait ;)
I think I should buy some of those mallets myself and thank you Adam for showing me these Yamaha mallets so I know what ups 😊🖒
The piece is coming along nicely.
Almost to 4K subscribers! You know what that means... Maybe time to bump to 4K resolution!
HAHA my computer can't handle 4K editing very well! And I'd run out of hard drive space in like a week ahahaha
I think a xylophone mallet review or two would be really cool if you ever get the chance to have one in the studio.
I would love to do xylo reviews if I had one! Thank you for suggesting :)
Loved your piece! I want to have the score now!!! Nice job!!!!
THANK YOU! I will release it for download soon, stay tuned :)
Adam Tan Thank you so much!!!
WAYOW 11:47 😱! But what a beautiful piece to listen to, and it's probably very nice to play, too! I would love to have it in my repetoire!
Remcam Official It would be my honour to have my piece on your rep list! Thank you so much 😄
This series of mallets is really popular in Taiwan. It is almost a “must have”!!!
So I've heard! I reckon it's probably cheaper for you guys too ahaha
i know this is pretty minor but i really like how to camera is placed like this in the sound tests. It seems to usually be near the end of one side but i like how it is in the middle. also great piece!
Thank you for noticing that! I just wanted to try something different, I'm glad you like it :)
I absolutely love your new piece!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you like it :) Available soon!
the best part of this entire video was that one second riff at 8:08
Hello @Adam tan ! i really want to buy keiko abe mallet but i don't no wich one between mk-05 and mk-06, i research a good set of marimba mallets for all the repertoire... if you had some advice on the hardness :)
Omg, wow! I would love to hear this song finished! (Honestly, I would love to even have the sheet music and play it myself) :)
Thank you so much! I will be releasing it for digital download soon :)
Yay, thank you! :)
could you please please PLEASE do a review of the Casey Cangelosi series of mallets by IP? I know you don't do a lot with IP, but it would make my day if you found a way to get them and review them.
Cerridwen I would love to try them, I'm halfway torn between buying them and getting a friend to send them to me... but thank you for letting me know!
If you don't already have a video on it, could you make one detailing mallet grips? I've only just started becoming familiar with 4-mallet playing for college this fall, and I'm only slightly accustomed to Stevens and cross grip. Love the channel! Sure thing man! I've been trying to figure out a nice way to make a grip video and it's tricky cause my grip isn't the best, but I'll give it a go! Maybe in the next Q&A :) And congratulations on your new mallets!
Great stuff as usual Adam! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks bro! I'm loving your stuff too :)
You should get ahold of some Artifact Percussion mallets and test them out!! They're a fairly new company, and it'd be great to see them in action.
I have heard of Artifact! Love their xylo mallets, I hope I can get some to try ;)
Holy crud I love your new piece!
ClassyXxGamer Thanks so much, its coming this week!
Adam Tan you're very welcome!! Can't wait!
Beautiful playing and awesome review, as always! I have the keikos in birch, not using anything else at the moment after getting them hahaha
Much love from Bris!
JOYCEEEEEEEEEEE thank you for watching ahaha, and I'm glad you got on #TeamAbe long before I did! Hope I get to visit you guys in Bris soon :)
Adam Tan Should come over for Transplanted Roots in September! But any time of the year, would be excited to see you and the Perth team again!
Joycie ~ Tempting! I should save more money first ahahaha but yes we miss you all 😄
Definitely! So happy to hear about your awesome opportunities in Malaysia! Great to see this channel doing amazing too! Can't wait for more studio content! :D
your piece is amazing bro. damn!
MrGrizzly Thank you so much!
I'm in love with your piece I would use it for a program audition next year but I have to use a 4.3 octave marimba
Teq Skull It can be adjusted for 4.3 but it's tricky.... I am sure there's a way 😀
ok ill do it, any idea when the full version of your piece will be released?
Hey Adam can you review the Innovative Percussion Soloist Series?
I really want to... literally they've been on a list with five or six other models that everyone asks me for that are hard to get :|
You can get them on Steve Weiss Percussion for about $40 USD (about $52.01 AUD) per pair. That's how I got mine (I use my IP275's for most of my two mallet solos)
Gormstorm I own pairs of the medium ones :D IP240
Hey Adam!!
Love your vids...you could review Adams Bogdan Bacanu mallets
I love 'em!
Thank you for watching man! I REALLY want to try those...
Can u do some mike balter and innovative percussion mallets reviews, please? Love all your vids man. Keep it up
Yes I will do my best, I should probably give the old Balter Blues a run for their money hahaha
Hey Adam! I think you should try out and maybe even do a video review of Mars or Jupiter mallets from a new company called 0gravitypercussion. Their mallets look amazing and I bet they'd sound amazing as well!
Funny you say that - Junior from 0gravity is sending me the Jupiter series so expect to see it on the show soon! :)
Your new piece? That was so beautiful! Are there sheets available for purchase?
Thank you so much! Sheets will be up for download once I'm done with it, its about 60% done at the moment! Look out for my 'online premiere' soon ahahaha
Dude, that's awesome! I can't wait to hear the final result- keep up the good work!
I really liked the piece you played
Thank you so much!
I don't think my knowledge in writing music is good enough to judge your piece very well, but i think it sounds great so far :)
That's more than enough my friend, thank you for taking the time to listen :)
Could you possibly do the innovative percussion soloist series?
Yessss I've wanted those for ages... I'll investigate ;)
What would you say is a great high end hard mallet for 4 mallet playing? I'm in the market for a new set but can't find anything.
If you mean like articulate ensemble type mallets and you want high end, maybe something like the Colin Currie series from Marimba One! Or Pius Cheung from Innovative Percussion :)
Adam Tan thanks!
Review Dan Moore's IPDM series. Extremely versatile mallets I really recommend them.
Rodrigo Villanueva I'll keep a look out man, thanks for watching!
Love the piece!! It sounds great. Kind of reminds me of sugaria a bit though hahahah but overall it was a great piece. Cant wait for the whole piece to be out.
Keiko Abe is love Keiko Abe is life
TRUE WORDS!
Eric Qi that's exactly what I'm planning on! Just have to wait a while for it to come ahaha
Leigh Howard Stevens mallets? I just studied with him this week and I'm a little undecided about it. Definitely a certain circumstance mallet, not very general if you ask me!
I really want to try them! I've only ever used the softest ones and they weren't too bad. They certainly look the part ;)
Review the Thomas Burritt line!! My personal favorite mallets
I've heard a lot about them, definitely a must try!
Yea Toby
My friend use these to play the lin chin-cheng marimba concerto no.3 which needs 6 mallets, almost all of them are worn off lol
Ah I didn't think these mallets would last long! Good to know :)
I think that are more likely to use in traditional grip
True, I meant to say that ahaha why did I say Burton grip... woops
I WANT TO PLAY THIS PIECE NOW
It'll be out soon I promise! ;)
Piece sounds great! Is it able to be transferred to a 4.6 (low E)? I'm assuming that you'd be selling the music and it'd be awesome to learn
Yes it can be, you just have to move the Cs up! I will be releasing it for digital download when it's done (soon!) :) THANK YOU!
Love your videos
I really like your piece :3
Thank you so much :) Available soon!
YO CHARLIE NESMITH WAS MY BAND TEACHER BACK IN THE DAY WOAH
LUCKY YOU he seems like an awesome guy!
im looking for my first set of marimba mallets . Do you think is a good idea to buy 4 of "keiko Abe mka 08" ? or do i have to combine with another harder pair?
How much do you think you'll sell your piece for? And will you distribute it independently or through a publishing company? I'd really love to play this for my next recital/jury in uni!
Pauly M I think we're going for 14.99 atm! independent through my website adamtanpercussion.com/download 😀
Adam Tan is that in USD or AUD? I'm from Canada, and if I recall correctly, the Australian dollar is worth the same as the Canadian dollar.
Pauly M USD, I always thought the CAD was worth more though ahaha
I just don’t know if i want to buy some erho marimba mallets or some of these Keiko Abe mallets, and if I do buy some, i would like to buy about 3 sets to start. Which 3 types would you recommend i should start with?

So I'm note sure if i wanted to graduate them to get an S7 or a 7. When you graduated them, did the 7 feel very different with the other mallets, both in tone and ergonomics?
I think the feel was pretty much the same, just a minute difference in the sound!
are the dragonfly vibraphone mallets good. can you make a review of them
Jonas Stormoen Roel They are super light I love them! have to wait until I get a vibe to test them on (coming in September hopefully!)
I'm buying the medium soft Mallots
Love this show
Thank you for watching!
Adam, watch your stroke technique as your mallets (both right and left) are inverting instead of perfectly stroking at a vertical angle. jim edward I agree Jim, I need to work on my strokes intricacies for sure! thank you for pointing it out 🙂

I SHOULD HAVE... one of my favourite pieces too :|
You should review the pius cheung mallets!
donald inglese I want to review them so bad, I've only ever briefly used them!
Adam Tan I love them! I got a set of them for free from performing in a masterclass for him! They feel great and sound great on the marimba
donald inglese Whaaaat so lucky! That's awesome man 😄
so these are Adams Bogdan Bacanu's basically...
Filipe Calixto In a way yes!
Can marimbas be out of tune?
Yes they can be over time as the bars start to shed and waver due to heat etc, but most modern marimbas have well treated wood that can prevent from being out of tune if kept indoors at a good temperature!
Review the she-e-wu innovative mallets
Please
Okay if I can get them I will! :)
Hey Adam, your piece is sounding absolutely stunning!
Any way, I think you should look at some super duper generic mallets. Something from Stagg or Innovative.
Like maybe these www.staggmusic.com/en/products/view/SMMWM
*OR*
these innovativepercussion.com/products/f1_5
I've used the Innovatives, and they were better than I thought they would be.
Yes I've always wanted to do like a budget mallet series with the cheapest mallets on the market! Thanks for suggesting :)
You don't know burton grip? Learn it. It's actually easy as hell after practicing it for a couple days.
I really should learn it! Maybe you can teach me ;)
When you're relatively new to percussion and Adam is mean to you for not knowing artists :'( xD
Matthew Mcconnell Hahahaha sorryyyyy
yaassss :D
You're on a roll with these requests hahaha
Adam Tan ahaha, roll, good percussion pun ;P

I think I should buy some of those mallets myself and thank you Adam for showing me these Yamaha mallets so I know what ups 😊🖒
Wooooo that's what I like to hear! I'm glad I could help you :)
Love the piece!! It sounds great. Kind of reminds me of sugaria a bit though hahahah but overall it was a great piece. Cant wait for the whole piece to be out.
Randy Tan I'd never heard Sugaria til you mentioned it but it does sound like it a bit! Thank you for watching 😀
