Thanks! For a video I made pretty spontaneously while sitting at the boat ramp, people seem to always watch it. Glad people find it useful. 🤘 check out the most recent vid I did of my home built jet boat!
Finally a Quality video that answers my questions on how the running gear is attached to an older Johnson outboard that formerly was a tiller set up. Great video
Great information. I just picked up an old boat that was stick steering and all that stuff was removed. But has the same motor on it. Now I see how easy it will be to reconnect it to how it came from the factory.
Thanks for the video! I have a 59’ Johnson 35hp with the exact same shifter. Do you happen to have a video or know where I can find one of how to wire the ignition? I hooked mine up the the battery and the motor and it doesn’t do anything and I want to make sure it is hooked up correctly.
I don’t unfortunately, but I bet if you searched boat control install or something you would find something on how they’re installed. Dangar marine on RUclips has all sorts of videos on boat stuff.
Where can you get that throttle cable, gear cable, and steering cable? I have a 14' MirroCraft that has an 85 Johnson 25HP tiller control pull start motor. I don't mind the pull start, but due to back issues, I want to build a console and be able to run the boat from that.
You can order universal shift and throttle cables and then order the ends that are specific to Evinrude/Johnson (they’re the same) or you can order cables that are specific for your motor. Either way works. And the teleflex steering cable, I’ve always gone with the seastar ones. Super good reputable company and the instructions are clear. I’ll add links in the description for parts to make all this happen.
Links should be in the description now. Hope that helps! Just measure what length of cable you need. Measuring directions should also be on seastar’s website in that link.
I think I have that exact same shifter… how did you hook up the cables in there? Existing was just inner cables (wire) my new cables have the eyes on them like yours… do you somehow take that off to expose just the wire? Needing help
It was quite a few years ago that I messed Around with it. But if I recall correctly there was a round little cylinder shaped end piece with a hold through it that you threat the end of the cable into and it’s held captive inside the lever “box” part. As you move the lever it pushes or pulls the cable. DM me on Instagram if you want and I can try to explain it better with photos. @Northern.arc.designs You can also check out my most recent boat project there.
@@Noahlochner0 yeah I don’t have Instagram or Facebook or anything really lol. I’m wondering if my cables are wrong… they look like yours with the holes in them to connect to the motor… but they have holes on the other end too, but that’s where it goes into the control box, but looks like you have to put wire in there… so I’m not sure
This is a great video no back and forth straight to the point and educational

Best video ever,I took my boat apart 4 years ago and I forgot how to put it back,Thank You!
Somebody had to show an easy and perfect illustration concerning this mistary ❤
To be completely honest I filmed this spur of the moment but I’m so happy it’s reached so many people.

Glad this video has helped people
I'm doing a similar setup with a Rude 18hp and same console. Really helped seeing the cable connections to the motor.

Search Dangar marine on RUclips I know he has one.
There’s also a channel called Brandon’s garage and I know he has one too.

Any good links for the cable connectors
Do you have a picture or video of your dual-handle remote control disassembled so you can see how the cables connect inside?
I don’t unfortunately, but I bet if you searched boat control install or something you would find something on how they’re installed. Dangar marine on RUclips has all sorts of videos on boat stuff.
@@Noahlochner0 thanks I'll check that out. I realized today I can probably find a new single handle style that would work and be better anyway.
I wish the piece on the end was threaded on....it's actually held on by the Silver pin at that that silver clip is attached to and it's pressed on.
Anyone have a link for the cable brackets? Can’t seem to find a listing anywhere.

The tiller handle is still attached im currently upgrading mine and was told all that had to come off
Mine still had the tiller handle and worked just fine.
My buddies has the tiller handle still on his also. But it may depend on what brand motor you have. We both have evinrude/Johnson
