Had to break it off with my girlfriend when I understood scripture. This is not taught in the church. I knew God was warning me. She was divorced and has kids but loves the Lord but her husband is still alive and in their life. So hard to break it off but I know I did the right thing and am trusting the Lord.

For those of you who are criticizing David of false teaching & justifying sin, just wondering if any of you "perfect" Christians have committed a sin recently. James 2:10 says that if you've offended in one point, you've offended in all.

exactly. but on the other hand your comment is not an argument or a rebuttal, you're trying to justify a sin with another sin and that's not right either. we should all just try as best we can but that doesn't mean we can't share opinions or educate

Just a minute here. One person's sin cannot justify another person sinning as well. And James 2: 10 deals with an offense against the law of Moses. The issue is one requiring deep exploration, and to do that you have to hear both sides of the scriptural interpretation, then sort it out very carefully, with prayer and being humble before the Lord. Name calling is pride and ego showing it's ugly head.
But I would add that you have to be very careful Carol, not to make the same mistake they are making and it is so very easy to go in that direction. I KNOW, been there; done that and have the T-shirt.

    • @OldToughDW
      @OldToughDW 5 лет назад +2

@David Justice Here is the crux of the issue. A divorce for anything other than fornication, All sexual contact outside of marriage, is a sin, but it has effects on both people. In Jesus day a Roman father could have sex with anyone in his household not a relative, and could kill his spouse children or slaves without penalty. That was Roman law. To think Jesus was not familiar with this growing up in a conquered province is foolish. I would not go quite that far but if one souse can injure or kill the other through mental or physical intimidation, then you do not have love in that marriage, you have deception and being used. So in that case God would not allow the innocent to suffer and be used like that.
With people you have cases that fit within hard lines and those where you have no lines as well and have to use discernment. You write as if it is a simple case of getting a situation to fit in or out of a category. Listen again carefully to what is being said, and be blessed.

Scripturally speaking, there is no evidence to justify divorce and remarriage. Remarriage is only for widows/widowers. Even in Matthew 19:1-9, JESUS’ statement about marriage actually ties into the Old Covenant reason for divorce, unchastity. The only thing He added was that even in this instance, divorce was never suppose to be an option. Effectively, Jesus eliminated every reason for divorce. Even if adultery takes place, you still cannot divorce and remarry. The only clause given that allows remarriage is if your spouse dies. If your spouse dies, you are allowed to remarry. Outside of death, you are stuck. If you have remarried and your spouse is still living, you need to seriously consider what needs to happen next because you are currently in an adulterous relationship that can send you and your partner to Hell and eventually the Lake of Fire for eternity.
Please take time to research this topic deeply. Pray and fast and study. Don’t go based on man’s word or interpretation, but go based on the Word of GOD. Don’t study with bias, study to learn GOD’s truth. Your eternity is at stake. Do not take this lightly.

@@shadowmist1246 Re-read the Scriptures. 'Twain' can NO LONGER be two when they become one. Just Saying: I'm not an expert on hermeneutics but the profit Malachi seems to be talking to the Jews who were wrongly divorcing their Jewish wives and then wrongly marrying gentiles who were worshiping idols. Malachi 2:14 states that "the Lord is witness between you and the wife of your youth. You have been unfaithful to her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant". Again in 2:15: "...do not be unfaithful to the wife of your youth". I don't see anything here that contradicts the rest of the bible. In that very first part in verse 28 ("But if you do marry, you have not sinned"), Paul is talking to men specifically who have never been married, in context with verses 26-27. Then in the middle of verse 28 after he says that, he shifts the topic to virgins (women who have never been married). I would choose other Scriptures for your specific argument - if you can. And if you can't, there you go. This is in response to 5:40.

I truly appreciate your desire to handle the word accurately. This has been important to me too, so my question here is genuine, and not adversarial. When I look at the passage, the portion you are addressing, it appears to me that the subject "you" being referred to in the phrase "if you marry, you have not sinned" is the same subject as in the sentence that came immediately before, "the one released from a wife." Then, in the next sentence, the subject changes to virgin women. Is there another way to read it?
      Here's the passage from 1 Corinthians 7:
27 "The one bound to a wife should not seek divorce. The one released from a wife should not seek marriage. 28 But if you marry, you have not sinned. And if a virgin marries, she has not sinned."

  • @pirulee514
    @pirulee514 6 лет назад +22

Sorry David, you got this one wrong. The key point is who is Paul addressing in 1 Corinthians chapter 7:28? He's talking to virgins, specifically male virgins - folks who have never been married. He is not talking to married or divorced people. 1Cor 7:25, "Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord...." So when Paul gets to verse 28 (still addressing males virgins), he is telling the male virgins if they do marry they have not sinned, and he also addresses the female virgins..."But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned..."

Piru Lee do you really believe Paul was telling people who had never married that they were not sinning if they got married ? That makes no sense to have to tell people of both sexes they are not sinning or in this case specifically telling people who have not EVER married or had sex that they are not committing adultery if they marry. That's about as dumb as step one of directional use to a blow dryer being step 1 - plug the blow dryer into a power source. That should go without saying wouldn't you think ?

This passage doesnt say if you've been released you are free to get married , it just doesnt say that. It seems that he is speaking to those who have not ever been married or are married to stay as they are. If you can clarify this more as to your teachings when you say he was saying "but if you've been released you are free to remarry," please show us exactly how it states that in these passages your referring too. The whole context of those verses is telling people to be content with their present status, married or unmarried, and don't be too worried about changing it. This was because of the dangerous times they were living in. BUT, if they did want to marry, that was not going to be condemned.

Maybe you shouldn't remarry a divorcee but what is utterly evil is to try and break up a SECOND Christian marriage when one partner has been divorced. I believe that whilst divorce is not in God's will, God still treats that second marriage as a valid Christian marriage and it is pastorally wise for us to do so. Note that divorce was absolutely rife in Jewish life in Jesus' day, the problem was that it was done on trivial not genuine grounds, and Jesus declared in Matthew that there WERE genuine grounds.

    4. I Corinthians 7:24 is not talking about being called as married or unmarried. It is talking about servitude and circumcision. Remember, this chapter is not only about marriage - it is answering a number of questions the Corinthian people had.

  • @tammielevinerarnold259

You must start with verse 25 since this is where the writer changes the topic to virgins. Verse 25 - 28 the writer is addressing virgins. It is clear that these verses are speaking of virgins ONLY! It clearly states first thing in verse 27; Are you married? Do not seek a divorce. Then the writer switches to those who are unmarried (virgins). He suggest they don't marry. Then beginning in verse 28 "But if you do marry you haven't committed sin", and then it goes on to say that if the (female referenced by she) marries, she has not sinned. So these scriptures are saying it is only virgins who marry that (couple both virgins) do not commit sin. I believe verses 10-11 speaks directly to the married and gives direct instructions concerning the ending of any marriage. It's a clear NO to remarriage. Then you will see in the next few verses the marriage of a believer to an unbeliever. The believer should still stay but if the unbeliever leaves anyway then the believer is not bound. The only other situation where you can remarry is if your spouse dies, and even then that person has to be in the Lord. 1 Corinthians chapter 7 covers all this and more.

Many times words have more than one meaning for example blue, the sky is blue, or I'm feeling blue today. Simple example, but the meaning changes drastically depending on context of the sentence. When determining exgesis it is very important to know all aspects surrounding the particular scripture. To not take into account who Jesus is speaking to could change the entire meaning. To not take into account old testament accounts means the ten commandments are no longer needed since we have the new testament. There is only one unforgivable sin and it is not a failed marriage. The society when Jesus spoke to the Pharisees was riddled with divorce and not once did he tell everyone to return to their first spouse. Why? The answer is simple, it would have violated Deuteronomy 24. To say Jesus came with a higher standard I have to ask higher than God? Can the word adultery have more meaning than a extamarital affair? How about the premature end of a covenant? How about a recipe with a wrong ingredient? Now read the scriptures and see if there is something you have missed. When the marriage vows are made does the couple suddenly become without sin? What should we do when we sin? Let's all go to the the one with the harshest exgesis. How about we take our sins to our savior and ask forgiveness.

@Rosanna Miller, In Matthew 19:9 and 5:32 when Jesus says "except for fornication", He was referring to ENGAGED jewish couples. No where else does the word 'porneia' applies to anything but fornication when juxtaposed with 'moicheia', the Hebrew word for adultery. Jesus is saying in this verse, Matthew 19:9, that if one of the BETROTHED partners commits fornication (that is the betrothal is not yet a full marriage so there should be no consummation) then the other partner is free to be loosed from that betrothed partner and get married to someone else. The betrothed Jew was considered married even before the final marriage ceremony which could take place up to a year after the engagement. To get out of the engagement he had to publicly divorce his betrothed.

Ok I just finished watching and u say it’s ok to remarry. What about in my case with the guy I went on a date with? We really like each other. According to scripture they are still married in God’s eyes as there were no Biblical grounds for divorce. A lot of time, faith and prayer has gone into restoration to no avail. She has recently started a new relationship. Would this be considered adultery on her part as they could still be married in God’s eyes? If not, then is the next option for the two divorcés to repent, be forgiven for the divorce and reasons behind it and then are free to remarry in God’s eyes?. I’m really disappointed as he is waiting on God about this still. Help!!!

I have spent 100s of hours studying this topic in the Bible, even reading about 20 books on the subject on every side of the issue one could think of. I've even taught on the subject. It's refreshing to finally hear a video where the person actually has some Bible knowledge and knows how to rightly divide God's truths. A lot of confusion on this subject has been influenced by the Catholic Church and their original influences on the translations of the Bible. Also a lot of confusion has taken place because of taking passages out of their context. The Old Testament and Law of Moses certainly allowed divorce and remarriage. In fact the priests were not allowed to marry "prostitutes, divorced women or widows." This was just a prohibition for them, not for the general public.

There is not one of us that has not sinned and it would be safe to say more than once. I have to question what sin does God not hate? When sin occurs in our lives does anyone think God watching over us says I never saw that before. Much effort is being spent this topic of divorce and remarriage and the scripture surrounding it. For those that believe divorce does not end a marriage and that you are still married to that spouse Deuteronomy would be a good place to start. When Jesus spoke to the pharisee's why didn't he say there is no such thing as divorce, or it is impossible, or how about put to death all divorced and remarried people since they are committing adultery and not just once but perpetually or tell all the remarried to return to their first spouse. Jesus spoke to the pharisee's about their misunderstanding of divorce and if he wanted all remarried to return to their first spouse for salvation sake I'm sure it would have been in the scripture. Believe as you want but there sure is much to do about what is not found in the scripture. My rock is Jesus and salvation is only possible through him, he is my savior and he has cast my sins as far as east is to the west. To those that are threatening hell if your exegesis is not followed please go back to the promises of Christ to those that believe.
    Blessings to all

It is unfortunate that people will actually take the advice from the unqualified commenters on RUclips. Not only is it irresponsible it is also sinful to give life changing advice when you can't be reached by those taking your advice. I have seen many of your comments and it leads me to believe you would benefit from live qualified counseling.
These are biblical questions that will get you thinking.
Did Jesus address Moses as being wrong or the pharisees convoluted view of divorce and a following marriage?
Where did Jesus tell those married again to divorce to repent (just a verse will be fine)?
Is God's perfect plan one man one woman for life?
What would be short of God's perfect plan of one man one woman for life ( be sure to get all of the sins)?
Do people fall short of God's perfect plan of one man one woman for life even before marriage?
Where did Jesus say I only let those married once in the kingdom?
Most important do you take the whole counsel of the bible before accepting any doctrine?
Rather than asking personal questions seek the whole counsel of the scriptures. My position in life will not help you and your walk with Christ in any way, just as your position will not help me.
Now ask yourself are you a qualified counselor ready to give face to face help for the people you advise? Do you have the required certification to advise? Have a blessed day.

Nell...re: your statement: "I’m sorry but your spouse can not become one with anyone else" - this cannot be true because adultery is the very act of becoming one with someone else. When you become one with a third person, you are no longer one with the original person. That's the very definition of what adultery truly is.
re: your statement: "You can only be in covenant with one person at a time." - that is true. You cannot be one with two others.
re: your statement: "So until either of them pass away they will only ever be in covenant with one another." - in Mathew 5 and 19, Jesus contradicts your statement by allowing divorce for reasons of broken covenant (adultery).
re: your statement: "The Lord says what he joins together let no one man asunder." - this seems to be a warning against the act of adultery or the government offering divorces for minuscule reasons.
re: your statement: "No judge or court can separate a spiritual covenant with God". - that's true. A marriage is not over until death or adultery has occurred regardless of the court's idea of giving divorces out like candy.

Mr.Servant, why did you take these verses in 1 Cor 7 (25Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful. 26I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be. 27Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife. 28But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you..) OUT OF CONTEXT?
If Paul is talking to "virgins", which the verses say that he is, then how do these passages refer to a consummated one-flesh covenant marriages? Since when is a person "LOOSED" from a consummated marriage a virgin? If you look closely at verse 27 and 28, you see that Paul is not only addressing virgins, but he is also addressing those "loosed" from a marriage. If a VIRGIN is loosed from a marriage, it is most likely Paul was talking about being loosed from betrothal which is a one year period before the consummated marriage. Also, if it was about a consummated marriage, the only way a spouse is "loosed" is if his or her spouse has DIED, not divorced. You cannot place "divorce" in the place of "loosed" in this passage since that conflicts totally with 1 Cor 7:10,11, and 39. It is erroneous teaching to believe that Paul was using these passages about a divorce from a one-flesh consummated marriage. YOUR teaching contradicts Paul's teaching, because Paul never contradicted what the Lord Jesus Christ taught about marriage. (Mt 19:4-6; Mk 10:6-9) Marriage by definition if one man and one woman for life, no excuses, no exceptions!
///Are happily-married Christians who were divorced in their past guilty of adultery? ///
Now if "remarriages" are states of ADULTERY, and NOT a marriage, then wouldn't your interpretation be completely false? You want the listener to believe that Christians should not divorce from "remarriages" while at the same time you do not want them to divorce from a marriage. Do you really understand what you are saying? Also, your understanding of verse 20 as it applies to "remarriage",...should this apply to those who are in fornication? After all, if a person should remain as they are when they come to Christ, would not remaining in what God calls adultery be the same as remaining in fornication. Why get married if God calls you to remain as you are? How about homosexuality, or any other sin?
What you seem to not understand is that one-flesh covenant marriage can never end in divorce. Instead of telling people the truth, you are leading them to a false understanding of marriage. When you say there is no where in scripture where it tells Christians to divorce from their "remarriage", you must understand there is no where in scripture where a Christian "remarriage" after a divorce is ever called a "marriage"...it is always called adultery. You are a dangerous teacher and should be avoided.

So these false teachers enter the world of apostates themselves. Notice what they have managed to pull off-a vernacular term meaning to deceive. They take a clean holy vessel- a spouse who never committed adultery-and have led that spouse directly into and adulterous union and have accomplished even a greater feat; they have called the unholy act of adultery, holy matrimony. It is as if they are saying to the spouse, Go, the church blesses your holy-adultery. The crime here is enlarged since now the spouse is trapped into the bonds of sin without the immediate opportunity to repent and be saved, repent and be forgiven. This is apostasy. The Pharisees asked, “Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away,” did they realize what they said. The word in Greek for divorcement is apostasion. The “writing of divorcement” can be referred to as a Writing of Apostasy. Salvation sola gratia assures sinners that by repentance and faith they are saved; “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” The false teacher’s doctrine slaps sola gratia in the face. By teaching holy-adultery they have created an act whereby the sinner is at liberty to willfully sin and live comfortably- especially in the church-in a state of mind whereby they believe they are righteous. This is an affront to the Gospel-excluding the sin of adulterous-remarriage from the act of repentance-now the sinner cannot be forgiven because they do not know they are living in sin.
May this never be! SUMMARY OF EARLY CHURCH DOCTRINE ON MARRIAGE, DIVORCE AND REMARRIAGE 90 A.D. - 419 AD.

    1. If a spouse persists in adulterous behavior and there is no other
alternative, the marriage relationship can be terminated by the
innocent party. (Hermas, Clement, Jerome, Augustine)
    2. Spouses that are divorced for any reason must remain celibate and
single as long as both spouses live. Remarriage is expressly

how they may act, what they do or don’t do, or the sins they commit,
the covenant remains fully in effect. A remarriage while a former
spouse lives is not marriage at all, but sinful adultery. God does not
divide the one flesh relationship except by physical death. (Hermas,

Nancy E Garcia, here is a comment I made below. Study the scriptures for yourself. It is not man's opinion that counts on the Day; it is the Word of God. Weeping endures for only a night, eternity is forever wherever you spend it:
What a snake-tongued presentation of the Word of God. The command not to divorce is for persons in a legitimate, holy matrimonial union. If such a one divorces and remarries while the other spouse remains alive, that command to not divorce does not apply since they should not be remarried in the first place, then if either remarries he/she is in adultery and adulterers do not go to heaven (1 Corinthians 6: 9-10).
Let me address the morbid interpretation of 1 Corinthians 7 that this false teacher gives. Note that he says that verse 28 is "addressed to the person who he's just been addressing". But who was Paul addressing. Do read a few verses above 28 and see exactly who Paul is addressing. In verses 25 to 28 Paul addresses VIRGINS. A (male) jewish, virgin could be bound or loose to a wife which explains verse 27. He could be bound awaiting the final marital ceremony or he could choose to be loosed from that engagement ('marriage') as Joseph wanted to be loosed from Mary when he discovered she was pregnant.
Do recall that Mary, while betrothed (engaged) to Joseph, was a virgin. She was not 'fully' married to Joseph and so they had not yet consummated the marriage. (Note that a jewish betrothal was treated as a marriage that was yet to be consummated). Note, however, in Matthew 1:18-20 that Mary and Joseph are referred to as 'wife and 'husband respectively.'' Armed with this knowledge you can see where the falsehood lies with this liar.
Also, in Matthew 19:9 when Jesus says "except for fornication", He was referring to engaged, jewish couples. This verse does not apply to you and me. If one's spouse commits adultery against you, you are not free to remarry until he passes away.
      That's the one consistent teaching throughout the Scriptures. See Malachi 2:14-16 (verse 14 is so striking in that it reminds us that God is a witness to your marriage and that even after divorce God still considers that first covenant binding and not the remarriage-covenant), Matthew 19:1-9, Matthew 5:31-32; Mark 10:1-12, 29-30; Luke 16:18; Romans 7:1-3; 1 Corinthians 7: esp verses 10, 11, 15, 27, 39. Note also the warning from Romans 1:27-32;

Lydia, just a clarification of terms. Divorce implies that it's ok to re-marry. Separation is what I think you mean't? Separation or legal separation would be the remedy for domestic abuse. +Lion of Judah everyone commits adultery from time to time but hey we are all sinners? what a spiritual slob and deluded person you are! I Cor. 7:1,2 is distinct from the issue of virgins marrying Corinthian converts would have include those who had been married and divorced maybe several times. Jesus didn't rescind the mosaic allowance just warned using it casually wasn't practicing purity. abuse incliuding some really evil mental cruelty would be similar to an unbeliever driving you out or leaving you. both this and death of the spouse leaves you "not bound" "not under bondage." MARRIAGE WAS DEFINED BY ROMAN LAW AS LIVING TOGETHER A YEAR AND A DAY and sex makes the two one flesh. fornication is serial adultery. the Roman laws on marriage changed over centuries, but Paul didn't address this so if you have a cohabitaing companionate marriage without legality and you dump this person for no good reason and take up with another or legally marry another you are committing adultery also. only virgins or those whose prior sex partners have willingly had sex with others or are dead can marry without some degree of adultery being involved. Jesus said not all could receive this teaching when the apostles said it is better never to marry if you can't get out of it. the man who had found his bride was not a virgin (and he hadn't been the one who had been with her before the wedding) had been defrauded into the marriage since he wouldn't have had her if he knew. you could argue some marriages could be ended on the basis of fraud.

No you cannot remarry after a divorce and scripture is very clear on this. The word must be taken struck and literal. Jesus will never divorce himself from his church. That is why Paul compared our relationship with Jesus to the marriage Covenant and that is why a husbands sacrifice and love for his wife is compared to Jesus’s love and sacrifice for us.
Jesus said we may separate for a time to meditate ( seek help ) however get back together and keep the marriage sacred. God does not contradict himself anywhere in scripture.

You said that divorced woman were allowed to get remarried under the old covenant, and then you say that it is the same under the new covenant because Paul said, "if they marry, they have not sinned". As I pointed out in number 5 below, Paul was not talking here about divorced persons. The notion that a battered wife or neglected husband have no biblical right to be free from their evil spouses cannot be reconciled to other aspects of Scripture.

A bound virgin is one like Mary and Joseph, betrothed (engaged) but still referred to as wife or husband. A loose virgin would be like what Joseph intended to be when he put Mary away. It means you were formerly bound to a wife but have loosed yourself from her. See more Scriptures and reasoning in my comment above.

What law did Jesus come to fulfill since the new testament wasn't even written when he was here? Should we also throw away the ten commandments since they are in the pentateuch? Was Moses inspired by God or is the old testament suspect? Would it not be Jesus himself that gave laws to Moses? Is God not immutable? Any exegesis that has the old and new testaments out of harmony is suspect.
