Not to be critical, a real threat to compassion and empathy are the corporate psychopaths and other character disorders prevalent in management. Dr. Hare and others have posted in youtube about this huge problem.
I know you wrote this comment 6 years ago, but you were and still are correct. The dark tetrad appears to corrupt institutions over time if left unchecked - and it seems that, throughout history, they are always left unchecked until it got too late to prevent the havoc they wreck. At the same time, EI is something we can train from a young age and keep the dark tetrad in ourselves in check. Still, I think what organizations and society needs is both the applied knowledge of emotional intelligence AND measures to prevent the dark tetrad to infest and destroy organizations.
Seattle has fabulous bus drivers. They know all the regulars by name and actually care about them.
