Fantastic explanation for very complex paddling dynamics-in a way I can apply in the boat. As I started learning, at first a very low percentage of my strokes “got it right.” I was consciously incompetent. There’s a lot going on and staying upright dominates the mind. But seeing these clear descriptions helps me to gain a higher percentage of moments of “getting it right.” Sometimes I even string together a series of smooth efforts-longer and longer strings. I was occasionally becoming “consciously competent.” Reps must be good reps or at least progressing to good reps, and these videos help so much! At some point I will then proceed to coaching because I’m sure I will need an external expert observer to help me really move to the next level. I look forward to the day when I’m “unconsciously competent” and can just focus on navigating, putting out watts and regulating effort. Thank you! 😊
So i started in a viper 46 now in a cinco i can paddle it but not comfortable yet in deep water. When I rotate my boat does go side to side and sometimes if i pause in that position i feel like i will fall in. I has also happened to me where i an paddling at a good pace and my paddle tried to tip me in the water but i did a hard brace which kept me in.
@Mr.Bryan1234 on a left side stroke as you take the stroke, if the boat leans left, pause, and feel like you'll fall in - it means you need to push your right hip forward more as the blade exits to find that balance. If you don't complete your hip rotation too much weight is on the left side and you'll always feel like you'll fall. Completing hip motion will shift the weight to the other side to counter balance it. Shift too much and you'll fall right... it's all a balancing act but it comes from the hips! Hope that helps.
@ watching your video made me understand thanks, all i need is to get rid of that mentally fear of not seeing the bottom of the ocean more so scared to fall in the deep because its just no way to get back in and currently kinda cold here in socal. I have fallen before but near the low end so i can get back in but its not always low tide. Also i have my paddle at 200cm 5/7 is that ok ?
I agree the fear of falling with these boats is very scary! Surfski is popular since it's easy to remount. I am around the same height and use a 200cm for racing usually. For training and more muscular workouts I'll use a larger blade and go longer usually 207-209cm. Usually depends on the distance for the paddle length, for me. Short distance a little longer is okay and for really long distance I'll use it shorter.
Thank you all for watching and dont forget to subscribe if you havent... inching closer to 4,000 subscribers!!!
