- Many of the best places to ski, are at resorts that you maybe never heard of. With lift lines getting longer and longer, here are the top underrated ski resorts you should visit to get away from the crowds.
Solitude is the opposite of under the radar...
agree
Whitefish Ski Resort is not new. It has been around since 1947. It use to go by the name Big Mountain. But rebranded itself as Whitefish in 2007, which is the name of the town nearby. I skiied it a few times in the 1980s and 1990s. You can take the Amtrak Empire Builder train leaving from Seattle at around 6 PM and arrive in Whitefish at 7,30AM. Makes for a great three day weekend. Sleep on the train both ways.
Did the same thing... But I came from Milwaukee only 28 hours on the train.
@MarkDenler Is that 28 hours each way or total? I enjoyed Whitefish because the snow is drier there than the local Cascades resorts and the train means I don't have to drive.
I can definitely vouch for alyeska it is now my home mountain some insane runs, great instructors (I am one) who love to show off the mountain, and an awesome community vibe. Unlike other resorts we also get big storms almost every two weeks so everything stays open pretty consistently and with superb conditions. (Also Christmas chute is the steepest run in North America that's still inbounds) There is also an additional 1000ft of hikeable terrain off of high silver and up to alyeska summit.
im coming next season and ill pay you to guide me around
0:22 Monarch Mt. CO 1:23 Mt. Bohemia MI northern peninsula 2:28 Showdown Mt., MT remote, low traffic, affordable
3:22 Solitude UT "most powder per person" 4:23 Cochran's Ski Area, VT 350 ft vert., but very affordable
5:27 Grand Targhee ID/WY 6:36 Whitefish, MT 7:42 Silverton, CO, experts, w/ guides, only
8:55 Alyeska, AK 9:52 Powder Mt., UT 8,464 acres, the most in the US
Sounds weird but there are some really good resorts in Idaho that not many people know about
Shhhh Let’s keep it that way
Listen to the guy above me
Yes bogus is the number one destination for Idaho skiing if you want to ski in Idaho you should go to bogus and nowhere else
Solitude, Grand Targhee, Alyeska, and Mt. Bohemia have delivered some of the best riding experiences I've ever had.
always stoked to see monarch get some love
I just went to this other mountain called Berkshire East, and it is super underrated
Go there all the time, and Mt. Snow in Vermont is also really underrated.
Mt Snow is crowded and definitely not underrated. All of New Jersey and half of NY goes there
UNDERRATED! Best skiing youtuber
Go to Sugarloaf in Maine during the week-almost n lift lines, and by far the best skiing in the East.
Grand Targhee in 2024 does not have CAT skiing but now it has a six person lift replacing the cat skiing
I would say Pat's peak in New Hampshire, but I always forget that tour busses from Boston always bring people there on day trips
Brianhead is a great ski resort that rarely gets mentioned
Snow basin is one you missed its very underrated
Go to mount bohiemia in the summer there is hot tubs and pools
You missed sunlight mountain resort, it’s great!
Mount bohemia is so dope
I think you definetly missed some underated such as sundance utah in the provo canyon.
Bouta go this weekend for 3 days, super excited for some night boarding!
Solitude should not be on this list. Owned by alterra, 35 dollar parking and completely full parking lot every day due to its unlimited use on the ikon pass. Gtfo
Waterville valley
Greek peak ny📍(no seriously it’s a central ny ski hill with a road gap and a amazing park owned and sponsored by cny free ride)
I’ve been to Cochran because I forgot to get a lift pass to a different resort … whoops
Snowbird is better than Powder Mountain, I will die on that hill
powder mountain does not get 500+ on average and tickets are way over $111. for a walk-up on the weekend try $200+
Will easily be $250 or more next year. Instead of capping lift tickets they are just going price normal people out.
$111 was last year, bought buy new owner this year.
I was there a couple of weeks ago. Adult lift tickets start at $229.
Have family that live by whitefish, I do not think whitefish should be 4 on list. There is a lot of flat terrain at whitefish.
reupload?
Why didn't you mentioned Titus mountain or whiteface
Baker!

All looks too flat, I have the Alps and Austria, far more fun. 😀
Yeah because everyone has the money to fly all the way to Europe
