@6:15 cracks me up!! Yes, here is a lovely lady in her formal evening gown somehow walking across the dunes of a desert where she encounters the rust-free carcass of a 1971 Plymouth Satellite. No wonder Plymouth is gone.
I owned two 1969 Roadrunners back in the 70's and 80's. They both had the 383 Magnum, one automatic and the other a 4-speed with Hurst Shifter. Great cars, great memories...
HAD....71 hemi RR in 79 summer. I drove it home From Memphis TN to NY Then to CA. In FIRST week 36 hours. Ny to CA. Plymouth EV2 PAINT CLOTH insert salt n' pepper Interior. Tach, map light, trunk, underhood lights. 4 spd, AM/FM stereo. Remote driver's, pair Painted sports mirrors. Great on open roads, And LA freeways.
My parents bought a new '71 Satellite Custom sedan with the 318. Beautiful car that lasted thru 3 teenagers. Loved the look, ride and handling. Great cars back then.
The fuselage styling, I think, was a "quantum leap" for Chrysler. It added more passenger space for sedans and more passenger and cargo space for station wagons.
Coincidence - When I took driver's training in 1973 we drove a brand new 1973 Plymouth Satellite w/318 V8. In the Police Academy, as a "rookie" I drove an old '73 Satellite patrol car w/318 V8. They were really good, strong cars.
My drivers ed cars were Charger Daytonas and Monaco 4 doors from '77. The geography teacher walked around HS parking lot with a giant backpack/antennae system the transmitted through the radio. A girl that 'liked' me burnt my leg with the cig lighter. Still have the scar...
For our family it was either GTX's one did have a HEMI...And the other car we always had during the 68-73 era was a big Olds 98. The great American household. Finally my brother got a 72 Dodge tradesman van w/the long 127 "wheelbase with a 360 LA engine. Which was a fast package. Later the vans could be ordered with a 440. Which was a total street terror. As fast as a 440 road runner up to about 75 or 80.
is it just me or did these cars just have more style and balls than what is out today? my first car was a 69 roadrunner that I owned for thirty years, sold and just got back and restored two years ago
Lee Crt My first car in 1980, a '67 Ford Country Squire, 351 Cleveland, rust holes, springs through front seat, free carbon monoxide wafting through as car was driven through Detroit's wonderful environs!
Mine was a 1970 Barracuda Gran Coupe, 383 automatic, blue with white vinyl top and black buckets, also had the optional luggage rack. Paid $320 in 1981.
If life isn't free and fun, what's the point? Meaning, rust? Yeah, iffy safety? Ok, 100,000 miles ? In your dreams. 200% more fun than today? You damn well know it!
eugene julson hey may I ask you a question is dodge and Plymouth the same because they look alike like for example a 1970 Dodge Challenger and a cuda also what difference on 1971 satellite vs gtx vs roadrunner they look alike
i know an elderly couple who have a 1968 plymouth satellite 2 dr white, no rust dents in original condition under a tarp. 318 auto. im thinking this would make a great road runner clone?
Different demographics, from college kids and the Roadrunner, average joes with a regular sebring, GTX for the high end muscle car buyer. Sebring plus for the guy like the GTX but no need for the super high output
Were the roadrunners bigger or smaller than the camaros and mustangs? Anyway they couldn't possibly be smaller. Weren't the Cudas and challengers close to their size?
Road and Tracks car of the year my Son is building a tribute Roadrunner with a 69 440 tunnel ram with 2-4s 727 reverse shift with a TCI Outlaw shifter and an 8 3/4 with a 430 spool we also have a 71 Cuda drag car that we purchased in 2011 my 1st car was a 440 4spd 354 Dana RT/SE paid 2600 for in 75 at 18 i also was given my Moms 65 Barracuda at 15 Mopars are in are blood. I gave my Daughter a 73 Duster when she turned 16
1971/1972 Plymouth Roadrunner, Satellite Sebring Plus, GTX and Roadrunner/ GTX.The most beautiful cars to ever come out of Detroit. Period.
I remember seeing the 1971 Satellite Sebring Plus for the first time. I was not a mopar guy but I couldn’t believe how gorgeous the styling was.

Lexus Ls400
Best looking GTX & Road Runner of them all
My parents bought a new '71 Satellite Custom sedan with the 318. Beautiful car that lasted thru 3 teenagers. Loved the look, ride and handling. Great cars back then.
I always did like the "fuselage styling" of Mopar's in the early 70's.
Life in the 413 Yes, the wrap-around "fuselage" look worked for Jaguar as well in those days -- it was the secret of the E-Type's sexiness.
The fuselage styling, I think, was a "quantum leap" for Chrysler. It added more passenger space for sedans and more passenger and cargo space for station wagons.
Me too, it looked great from the Duster all the way up to the Imperial!
I'm building a 1/24 scale Plymouth GTX '71, this video has helped me to see some of the features and colors of the car!
Lol.

I like these videos, shows what a real car looks like.

Satellite has more people pleasing models and features than ever before.

Great stuff! I now know more about the two '71 Roadrunners I owned than ever before . . .
71 was a beautiful year for the Plymouth mid-size. I'd love one of each!
is it just me or did these cars just have more style and balls than what is out today? my first car was a 69 roadrunner that I owned for thirty years, sold and just got back and restored two years ago

I just bought a Roadrunner to restore GY9 Tawny Green 383 300 horse, lots of work to save her
Mine was a used '70 340 Duster. After rebuilding the engine, it was FAST! Faster than a kid of my age and mentality needed. I miss that car.
Glad you got this on here I'm working on a Plymouth satellite Sebring right now restoration in progress
Absolutely l9ve this car. Especially with the slapstick shifter.
I love road runners , always will be my fav , my dad loved Looney tunes ,makes the car way more special to me .
A 1971 model thanks again
Very beautiful car. Nice explanatory promo video.
5:23 note they don't mention that the coupe gives up more than a cubic foot of trunk to Duster, and that appears to be with the whoopie-cushion spare.
Thought we were gonna see something for second there... judging by the pre-picture. Still very clean..
Man, i never liked these cars but dig these vids.
I have a 71 GTX, 440+6, Pistol grip 4 speed with a Dana...what a Blast it is to drive.
Inside good release and easy lock doors? I'm sold those are some crazy safety features
@9:00 - "See how easily the painted steering column gets scratched!"

Nice!
'71 GTX ... nicest, meanest looking car of all time.
Fuselage... ftw!
4:05. “Strato” ventilation system. Wow. Now that’s something you won’t find on today’s cars.
...brings in nice dirty outside air.
When cars looked like cars.... Not the glorified eggs of today....and those engines, Yummy!!
V8 When petrol was affordable. Kiss those days goodbye.
Still have my 71 two door.
G Sav
I had a 71 challenger. It got rear ended by a drunk in a 225 Electra.
Thinking about selling my satellite
eugene julson hey may I ask you a question is dodge and Plymouth the same because they look alike like for example a 1970 Dodge Challenger and a cuda also what difference on 1971 satellite vs gtx vs roadrunner they look alike

My father had a 72 Satellite sedan,318 with a/c and other options
I remember that song, wow, how "mod".
i know an elderly couple who have a 1968 plymouth satellite 2 dr white, no rust dents in original condition under a tarp. 318 auto. im thinking this would make a great road runner clone?
Hmmm...the movie Gran Torino comes to mind.
Put me in a GTX, sporty brown color, with a 440, 4 speed. Vrrooom!
3:10 - Who's the guy on the top left with the Bowler hat, and when did that EVER mean "sporty auto styling for 1971?"
Hello you folks at Dodge.......I'll take a silver 2-door, thanks!!!!
Is the model in this film John Malkovich?
Wonder where they took the last few photos? I'm guessing Metro Beach.
Could be,,,Lake St. Clair, the worlds largest septic tank,,,lol.
6:47 god that is a creepy looking hand.
i was thinking the same thing...quite skeletor
would look great "choking the chicken"
Why did they put The Road Runner / GTX / and Satellite Coupe in the market like that? They look almost the same?
Different demographics, from college kids and the Roadrunner, average joes with a regular sebring, GTX for the high end muscle car buyer. Sebring plus for the guy like the GTX but no need for the super high output
Thumbs up for a like.
Great looking car--would have been better if sized like the Camaro and Mustang
Were the roadrunners bigger or smaller than the camaros and mustangs? Anyway they couldn't possibly be smaller. Weren't the Cudas and challengers close to their size?
