I'm British, Married, kids the lot. I've been in some of the biggest supermarkets here in the UK they just don't compare. Not saying Walmarts is better but definitely bigger. JT, Walmart did move into the UK and owned a supermarket chain called "ASDA" but after about 3 years left the UK and sold ASDA to a British company. Walmart lost just over a billion dollars when they left the UK. Walmart were arrogant and stupid, they tried to run ASDA as if ASDA was located in the US, i.e tried to run ASDA with US employment laws. Walmart was quickly taught that workers in the UK have legal rights and legal protection in regards to working.

    • @WelshEnZo
      @WelshEnZo 13 дней назад +2

      Your timescale of Walmart ownership of ASDA is incorrect. I worked at ASDA for 7 years, from 2010, all the while was Walmart owned. Walmart bought ASDA in 1999 sold in 2021.
      Did this girl only live in a 10 person town or something? All the stores in the UK are the same, just these stores are much bigger hence more products.

    • @DaveBartlett
      @DaveBartlett 13 дней назад

      @@WelshEnZoI can second that comment. I was working at ASDA House in Leeds, when they announced the 'merger' with Walmart. The rumours about at the time were that ASDA were to be sold to the Kingfisher Group, (at that time: Woolworths/B&Q/Comet/Superdrug.) There had been earlier reports that both Kingfisher and Sainsbury, had offered merger proposals, so when Sainsbury fell by the wayside leaving only Kingfisher with a declared interest, so it came as quite a surprise to middle management and workers alike when Walmart bought ASDA outrght. The inside opinion was that Walmart's interest in ASDA had more to do with them automatically acquiring the 'George' clothing brand, than anything else.

    • @JacknVictor
      @JacknVictor 13 дней назад +1

      It's not even that they are much bigger to be fair. I was quite surprised how small the Walmarts I went in to in the US were compared to any of the large Asda's I've been to. Even the Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons I find to be very large, quite often bigger than a lot of American supermarkets. I don't doubt that America has some huge places, but the Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons in my average small town were all either about the same size or bigger than any of the stateside supermarkets I visited. The one in this video looked smaller than either of the Asda's that I frequent. And I was out there inthe US for two years travelling a lot. Saying all that, the Tesco in my town was at one point the biggest in the UK when it was built just over 20 years ago, and it's one of the ones they filmed some of their ads at. So it might not be a fair comparison. Seeing a car park covered in "snow" in the middle of summer was a weird experience.
      The girl in this video must have been very sheltered, bless her. How she could have gotten to the age she is now without seeing potato salad and stuff like that in a supermarket It boggles the mind. Especially since we basically had a version of Walmart, as they owned Asda for around 20 years. And although they didn't sell guns and tyres, they pretty much had everything you could want. That was all pre-covid. Now you are lucky if anywhere has more than one brand or type of any one item - and that's if they even have that! @@WelshEnZo

The shops often changed companies but we never had a problem finding them as we visited monthly.. we knew it well. The last time we visited was around 3 years ago and there were a few signs, but they could do with bigger, clearer ones I agree! As for supermarkets having the likes of McDonald’s or Starbucks etc, personally we prefer to eat from different places that are smaller companies b- that don’t charge a fortune for a coffee or a pretty mediocre burger! Gradually we are actually getting fewer and fewer different shops, they are ubiquitous and often not the best. We do not have a wall of refrigerated whole cakes in our supermarkets. We have loads of cookies and the like, bakery sections and separate aisles for branded breads, etc obviously. Our big supermarkets on average are about 1/2 to 1/3rd the size of the walmart in this video, where i am anyway in East Anglia, but the space is used more effectively with less large open spaces. A lot of the stuff she's saying we don't have in the UK, we do have or we have alternatives, like instead of 'cosmic brownies' we have m&m brownies or smarties brownies packaged and branded or in bakery sections. One big difference is that our boxes of like 'goldfish'-like snacks would never bet that big, we don't have packages that big, never those giant jars of cheeseballs, lol, we just have big bags of them. We've got outdoors inc garden sections, hardware sections, don't think we have a paint section though, we've got electronics sections(phones, tvs, plus, cords, toasters, microwaves, etc etc), pharmacy sections, etc, ours just might be slightly smaller sections even in our larger supermarkets. Every aisle here as well has grab and go snacks. Dude, we do not have bank sections in our supermarkets, wtf that's crazy, we've obviously got ATM machines and some have foreign exchange booths or whatever.

    JT we do have walmart in the UK. Well kind of. It's a chain of stores called ASDA (said as a word not an acronym AzzDah) to be honest im surprised this girl didn't spot the similarities almost instantly. I did. When i was i nthe states back in 2000 i went into a walmart for the first time and the first words out of my mouth when i got inside was " Oh its just a really big asda" The branding was the same, even the little "Rollback" smiley face, we have that too. Although Asda is more of just a regular supermarket, you cant buy car tyres or a shotgun. Although they do usually have a small electronics isle (in ours its the next isle over from the pizzas)

    I used to be a product designer and designed quite a few products for Walmart, and ASDA when they were Walmart owned too, they were a nightmare to deal with, just one of those companies that throws their power around and is very manipulative, they don't ask cost prices, they tell you what they're going to pay and you take it or leave it, you can actually end up with products you make a loss on just for the prestige of being able to tell other customers you supply Walmart, being a supplier of theirs can be just a marketing strategy you're willing to take a small loss on for many of their suppliers.

    The UK’s Asda supermarket is owned by Walmart and one or two of the larger flagship stores were branded as Asda Walmart a few years ago but I think not anymore. Obviously there are cultural, regional and legal differences in terms of products sold but our stores are no where near the size of yours. Admittedly our stores don’t have such a wide range of products as you do most likely due to sales forecasting and buying power, our Asda’s don’t sell tyres or engine parts for example but will stock engine oil, wax and dusting cloths. Because our stores are more concentrated specially it means we have more speciality stores close together like, electrical big box stores, garden centres, furniture stores, clothing stores, car and outdoor stores etc… So as not to have major competitiveness between major retail chains and even smaller independent retailers our supermarkets will not be all encompassing

    Has she never been to a larger Sainsbury's, Tesco's, Morrisons' or Asda??
    My nearest Asda supermarket has a double isle for bagged bread, then another double isle for fresh baked bread (baked in store) and then another double isle for other baked goods.
    I wonder if she ever actually did the shopping herself in the UK, or just had someone else do it🤔
    I can go in to my nearest Morrisons, buy my groceries, including fresh baked goods, and fresh meat etc from the deli counter. Have a pizza made to my specifications right in front of me. Then go pick up books, cds, dvds, games etc. Clothes, toys, electronics, plants, kitchenware, pet supplies, a small range of car stuff....pretty much the same as that Walmart bar the guns.

    These girls have obviously NEVER visited a UK supermarket at all as the vast majority of them have large fresh fruit/veg sections (Morrisons usually have the biggest selection). ASDA & Tesco superstores have all had in-store bakeries for at least 2 decades (as have a lot of Sainsburys). Almost every supermarket in the UK have their own clothes brands as well (George at ASDA, Florence & Fred at Tesco, etc). Tesco superstores also have large electronics departments (the one near to where I used to live had a living room setup to display the Sony AV products.
    Like I said on a reply, the only difference between a UK supermarket & a Walmart is that you don’t get fishing tackle & AR15’s next to the kids toys.
    A 1lb block of cheese is not what I would call “massive”! It is a standard 500g (give or take) size that basically every shop (from small corner shops to superstores) sell.

    She said a couple of times, we do not have this in the UK, we do. She is going to be disappointed with the Snickers (the US uses a different chocolate recipe) and the Cheese, most US cheese seems to be processed unless you buy at a Farmers market or Wholefoods store. She obviously bought crappy food in the UK too. Walmart looks a bit like Costco, we have Costco here but it is not open to the general public. You have to have a membership card and can only get one if you have a professional job.
