whats the name of the song “yo quiero una colombiana y una brasileira” ??
When they show off their flags in the movie: the Dominican, Puerto Rican, Mexican and Cuban- I ADORE!! How they show of like each places’ traditional dance! It’s so beautiful 🥺
Just seeing that level of representation with crews repping colors like gangs but instead they are coming together to celebrate
It was very powerful
Loved that part!
It was nice seeing the Panama flag in the background of this scene it was heartfelt to me like I usually don’t see Panamanian representation so it was just nice to see it there
@@venusrevival9276 yeah, I love that even the song only featured 4 countries, but they add many flags of different countries at the background like Jamaica, Columbia, Venezuela, etc.
As a half Mexican on my dad's side, i want to learn their dance
It’s so endearing to hear Lin singing as Piragua Guy😂he’s just a wise middle aged man who knows this ENTIRE STORY BY HEART- but ay, he’s just sellin shaved ice🤌🏾
Middle aged? Lmao ok
In interviews, he says he's dressed like his late grandfather, eyeglass lanyards, high socks with shorts, etc. To me its like John Chu uses the Piraguero as like the guardian angel of W. Heights. He begins the story, is there to rally the people in this big number, and he is there the end, almost subtly guiding the characters .
@@scz1770 hes 41 years old- he’s coming up on his middle age years lol
@@scz1770 They were talking about the character, not Lin
Such a shift from being front and center of attention as hamilton
As an 100% Filipino, I have no right to feel such pride when I hear this song, but the energy and passion is so palpable! I love how this celebrates the latin community and hope more people come to love and learn more about it through this very special movie/show. EDIT: Ok at some point I stopped getting notifications about this comment, but just revisited after two years and WOW. So many lovely comments. As humans we all have an innate desire to relate and have pride in our own culture whatever that is.
Bruh I’m Nigerian and it just radiates this “be proud of where you come from” energy and it’s intoxicating so I feel you😩😩
@@a.a.6318 right!?
@@a.a.6318 fucking exactly. I’m Rwandan and I feel the exact same
I think that shows the strength of the music, acting and the story. These people are up their singing and dancing their hearts out, and we feel that, no matter where we are from. It resonates. Everybody (human) wants to belong somewhere.
I’m African American and I loved it too. We are all connected.
"My mom is Dominican/Cuban, my dad is from Chile and PR which means, I'm Chile-Domini-Cu-Rican......... but I always say I'm from QUEENS!" Love that part of the song so much!
And then she kicks so powerfully and it just kicks the songs so well
This is my favorite part!!
It's even better in the movie because I feel that it comes from a place of belonging and confidence of her home rather than hesitation like in the original!
me with my confusing heritage: relatable in the house also I want to make a tik tok about it but idk how to worded it
@Marissa Stannard cool
This is probably the song that makes me more emotional in the whole musical, the whole part of "alza la bandera" and "cuando yo me muera entierrame en mi tierra",,,, makes me cry everytime
Alza la bandera🇵🇪
Concuerdo
Y yo tambien
I don't speak Spanish, what do these say?
@@a.henderson9559 “Alza la Bandera” means “Raise the Flag”. The series is them raising the flags of their home countries: Dominican, Puerto Rican, Mexican, and Cuban.
“Cuando yo me muera entierrame en mi tierra,” means “When I die, bury me in my land.”
“Concuerdo” means, roughly, “I agree”
“Y yo tambien” is “And me, too.”

y'all are lucky when i went to my theatre there was only me and my friend + a group of 3 other ppl. It was just us vibing to the music lmao.
Edit: reading this comment thread makes my heart feel so happy for u guys. I’m not even Latina I’m full on Asian. So is my friend. To think Lin Manuel Miranda wrote ALL the In The Heights songs by himself, damn this man is so talented as hell. Never underrestimate him!!!!
He's a very versatile man
And did all that when he's in his 20's.

It is so touching that this song means sp much to everyone. Even non-Latin people
yeah last year i found this musical and i fell in love. it gave me this feeling i never had before. also i’m not really close with my family so seeing this whole other culture is so heartwarming to me. it makes me really wish that i had this! and carnaval del barrio just makes me feel so incredibly happy i couldn’t stop moving when i went to see the movie in theaters!

I LOVE the part when Anthony and Lin sing together! It's like Lin passing the torch to Anthony and it's beautiful! I think it's at 3:47

There's no such thing as latino culture tho, u know, balck people can be latinos, so can whites
@@benstark6105 there is not such a thing as Latino culture? Do you know the meaning of the word culture? Every country in Latin America has its own culture and traditions, and even though this song is mainly a mixed of aguinaldo and plena and a little of hip hop, cultures are pretty well represented in this song.
3:47
This solo that turns into two part harmony has always been my favorite part in the show.
But now it’s so much more poetic.
On stage, Lin started out penning/starring in this show and putting himself at the lower backup harmony.
Now, even though he’s the cameo character, he gets to take lead melody and rock the top notes, just like he’s on top of the world now.
We all love you Lin!
I was so happy to see that. ☺️
Hell yeah! Piragua!
Puerto Rican culture is such an underrated latino culture. This is coming from someone born and living in PR so the feeling of seeing PR representation feels amazing
That's because Puerto Rico actually belongs to the USA.
@@rocbenaa1963 I know, but that doesn’t mean it’s like the USA. It’s Culture it’s actually way complicated and it’s history it’s actually really long before the USA arrived

Little fun fact: this was the song that abuela died during in the original theater version. Specifically at the end where the "Alza la banderas" part is happening, and this time they don't mention Cuba, but Daniella is saying "Adios" which both means goodbye and to god, aka alabanza. A little hint to abuelas death
I was mad when they killed Abuela so early. And they waited so long for Usnavi to find out about the money
"Alza la bandera ¡La bandera Cubana!" is still in the lyrics. If you are talking about the "Alza la bandera"s at the end, Cuba wasn't mentioned there in the Broadway version either.
@@sarahcummins6080 I actually really liked the rearrangement and build-up to her death; she went out with a bang, and also the "oh no, is she-" feeling absolutely wrecked me.
This became a song not just to remember the countries they came from, but also to accept grief and celebrate what was, including "our matriarch".
Also, they changed what the money was for, so the late reveal worked for me too 🙂
@@sarahcummins6080 I think both versions got it right for their medium. The way Usnavi is hurried off stage if you spot it in the theatre version followed by the heartbreaking "Atencion" straight after. I dont think the way she dies in the movie would've worked on stage.

I watched this movie today with a friend, so sad to see that nobody stayed to see the ending cutscene of the "Piragüero" that finally triumphed against the ice cream man, hahahaha.
I didn't stay either and i went with my mom

I saw this movie twice! I love it!
Lin Manuel Miranda has outdone himself ❤️ ¡Mucho Caliente!
🇩🇴🇵🇷🇲🇽🇨🇺
Holy moly what a masterpiece.
for real
I love this song so much since I'm a huge Lin-Manuel fan since his music influences me as a guitarist so I've been listening to this on repeat as I work on a composition, and this Miranda song is so amazingly passionate with lovely melodies, horns, and percussion that moves the heart and body!
I'm a huge LMM fan too
I’m so proud of being Latina ♥️
Alza la bandera, la bandera Mexicana 🇲🇽
I loved when the ancestors sent them electricity after they did the tribal dance lol love from South Africa.
WTF. Never connected two and two. Ha! It works! 🎶 Alza la bandera, la bandera de Sudáfrica 🎶
I'm asian but the pride in this song is so contagious and beautiful and it just makes me want to dance and sing 🤧🤧
ALZA LA BANDERA 🇵🇷
3:45 Gets me every listen, that passionate solo by Lin and then the two string harmony it transitions into are just perfection.
the amount of SEROTONIN that this songs gives me IM 📈📈📈📈📈
The FACT that this song can make me feel so nostalgic for a time that wasn’t even 5 MONTHS AGO says something about the magic of this musical
"Esa bonita bandera contiene mi alma entera" 🇲🇽💖
This song makes me hype and idk why but it’s probably cause I love being Hispanic 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷 Puerto Rican for life
I can say what this song does to light my latin blood. "Benny and Nina sitting in a tree" being turned into a legit salsa number. Lin manuel Miranda hitting those "loo le lo li" notes. Seeing that Rican flag on the big screen. Last time I saw salsa in a movie was El Contante (Marc Anthony) and Big Stan (used for comedic effect)
@@devild1986 yeah idk what it is about this song but I love it!!
Puerto Rico 🇵🇷!!
I just watched the movie yesterday with my friends, and this was definitely one of my favorite songs. I love how there’s so many dancers in the scenes.
Already knew they were gonna remove the "Everything changes today" part from the leaked set video. But also it wouldn't really make sense with the story changes. Love this number still!
Same! It still threw me off though lol I kinda dislike the changes they made because it takes away from the song.
@@trevonte3723 I agree the original was a lot better! and the way it stung as well. But this is still a master piece
I screamed what the fuck when that didnt come! Thats ng favorite part from the original
@@tlaragihai5953 there’s multiple changes! He doesn’t say that abuela won the loto and “everything changes today” didn’t come. And more things
@@aiko7847 yes, i noticed these, but i got the impression Usnavi is still going to DR, so why cut "Everything changes today", when everything IS changing. And then I thought i may be wrong, bc I don't know the actual plot ^^
The part where they show our flags and dances is my favorite. Love this movie so much! Representation means so much to me as a light skin Puerto Rican. I also have half afro and Rican kids so I make sure they are seen.
honestly was my favourite song from the original, im so glad yall uploaded this!!!
ALZA LA BANDERA! 🇧🇷

ARRIBA ESA BANDERA 🇵🇷
I love the "we are powerless line"
I’m Filipino and I am so in love with this song. Colonial mentality is ingrained in the Filipino DNA and it is hard to see that some are ashamed of our culture when we are in a different country. We were taught to just adapt and belong because well, it makes life easier I guess. I love how this song celebrates the culture and the people. It highlights the dances of each country like we have been bringing this to the table and it is amazing. It says that we might be from different places but we are one and we are united. All minorities deserves to be represented and given opportunities. Yaaaaaz raise that flag indeed! LMM is a musical and cultural genius. 👏🏼
I love this song, especially in the section starting at 5:40.
Doesn’t matter if you aint Latino as long as you appreciate the culture its all good. El Barrio is more than just latinos. 🇨🇺🇭🇳
P'arriba esa bandera (hey!)
Alzala donde quiera (hey!)
Recuerdo de mi tierra
Me acuerdo de mi tierra
Esa bonita bandera! (Hey!)
Contiene mi alma entera! (Hey!)
Y cuando yo me muera
Entierrame en mi tierra!
This song is such a bop, it makes me wanna dance so badddd 😭
My family and I loved this movie, it made us all cry and my dad loved hearing the music of our country. Viva Latino América!!! 🇲🇽🇳🇮

daphne is crushing this omg
Easily the best song in the musical. By far! Gives me goosebumps every single time! 🇵🇷
im brazilian and when i saw the brazilian flag in this scene it made me so happy!
If this film does well, Broadway revival please!!!!! Well done this film.
YES! The world needs this again!
There’s at least 8 potential Oscar nominations in this film.
Movie is not doing well. Too many critics for lack of Afro Latino representation. Sad!!
@@minyrar7107 Who taught you how to talk, Trump? SAD!

As a 100% Puerto Rican I would never change my patria and mi isla, latinoamericana is the best thing I’ve ever had and this culture and music is everything for us!

It's the fact that Piraguero is the only one supporting for a while for me
But I'll always be here for his enthusiastic "¡Wepa!!!"

This song is incredibly powerful! This song
Is full of Pride, Joy, Unity, and Celebration. I can’t stop listening to it! There were so many favorites parts of the movie for me…the scene with this song happens to be my favorite. What a beautiful movie this is. Our Latino Community needed a movie like this for us! We have finally arrived on the big screen in this capacity!!!
Allow me to cautiously recommend El Contante and Nothing Like the holidays. One is a biographical film about Puerto Ricos famous salsa singer Hector Lavoe, the other is a New York Rican family with their drama coming together for Christmas
WEPAAA!!!!!!!! I’m so ready to watch this and cry so hard!
2:25 The voice❤Vanessa's voice is just amazing

I love how they included so many flags and different dances, even Brasil the kinda excluded latin country (which is my country so i was really happy)
Usnavi’s “Alright we’re powerless, so light up a candle. There’s nothing going on here that we cannot handle” is what keeps me going when things don’t seem right😊
Such a powerful song with good vibes
“Can we sing so loud and raucous, they can hear us across the bridge East Seacaucus?” My favorite line
