I'm always interested in exploring nostalgia. Something that I've come to define as a longing to recreate moments of joy. A longing that comes with a tinge of melancholy that you can never fully experience or recreate those moments.
This film is intended to capture some of those fleeting moments of personal joy in a little timeless jewel box.
This film was shot on my Sony FX3 cinema camera, using the CInePrint 16 Film Emulation Davinci Resolve Power Grade by Tom Bolles. This seemed like a good opportunity to emulate a nostalgic film look and try out this power grade. The grade has many print stocks including Kodak 238,3 which was used here. Multiple film and grain sizes, 8mm, 16nm, 35mm etc. It also includes gate weave and halation -- a film attribute I've been dying to emulate ever since Steve Yedlin talked about his emulation for Knives Out and the Last Jedi.

That is VERY filmic, great video my friend
Thanks so much 🙏 always appreciated
Nice color🔥
Love this. And I think you described "nostalgia" perfectly.
Thank you so much 🙏🙏
Amazingly heart felt 🔥🔥🔥🔥
absolutely love the lighting in your videos
Thank you so much 🙏 I'm so glad to hear
Love it. It was magical! You did such a good job with the vintage look. Soo goood!
Thanks so much, Benny 🙏 always appreciate your kind feedback. And this means a lot that the intended tone and style came through
Amazing work! Love it!
Thank so much!!
Love it! Just move to Texas already man… do it!
what lens was used here? it is stunning, everything from top to bottom!
Thank you so much 🙏🙏 I used a Tamron 28-75 mm F2.8 w a 1/8 black promist filter
Question. What print film do you use in cine print? Or are you using cineon??
2383.
Hello Scott I just bought cineprint16 and well... I"m kinda lost as I'm just getting started BUT U might be able to help somehow. I've got the Sony FX3 as well (Filming in log 3) and was wondering what Input Color Space/ Input Gamma / Output Color Space/ Output Gamma on the CST node I should use. thx in advance man
Sure thing! You will want to do Input color space: Sony S Gamut.cine
Input gamma: Sony S Log 3
Output color space - Arri Wide Gamut 3
Output Gamma - Arri Log C3.
And then just make sure you have only one print node enabled. So either print film, which if you expand it, it has multiple film stocks. Or cineon. Cineon basically represents if you were to scan film, and then rather than printing it to film, adding your own final look to it digitally, and then distributing digitally. Where print film is more like a traditionally printing to the limited film stocks that Kodak and Fuji produced like 2383.
Really beautiful and inspiring.
Did you use a vintage lens as well, or is it all in the emulation?
Thanks so much for the kind words 🙏. I'm so glad it achieved that effect for you.
I used a black pro mist filter for most of it, as well as an ND filter. The emulation has a tiny degree of overall blur, and halation, which definitely does a lot of that heavy lifting
@@ScottJeschke amazing.
When your son is playing with driftwood @30 seconds in, it looks like it was shot on a soundstage in the 60s. Really cool.
@@dannycymbal love that! Totally see that. Yeah something about the light and the way the long lens is compressing the background.
Where can I find this Lut?
This one was graded using Tom Bolles Cineprint 16. www.tombolles.net/cineprint16
its an copy, of an letter of traveling
Not sure I understand. ?
