@@Kacpa2 So my rear seats fold forward but not fully flat, and the boot floor is a lot lower. Doesn't look comfortable, but I like my car so want to see if it's possible lol
@@seanm996 You could try try to make a sleeping platform but in a sedan its kind of bad verticly, station wagon would ve much more versatile. Tho you still can try to make a new trunk floor from some ply wood to raise it up or camping foam mattress pads and cut the to shape. Unless the angle pf the seats when folded is extreme then front sits reclined as flat as possible is an option
@@Kacpa2 Those are some good ideas thanks. I'll have to investigate more. The front passenger seat might be the best option, I would only need the sleeping bag, pillow, and cut out window covers. Would still be a fun adventure I imagine!

@@botandrew1 I am 1.85m and sleep in my GT86. The length of the lying surface is 1.95m in the GT. I assume it will be a bit shorter in the GR, but should still enough for you.

This is so cozy. I found that Japanese people are so good at using spaces. When I visited Tokyo I was surprised by the size of the hotel but also felt fun. I couldn’t even fully open my luggage case but I can see the Tokyo skyline from the gigantic window. It’s such an amazing trip. I want to visit Japan again!!

I have the outgoing 2020 model. Pretty good first sports car if a bit slow. And it’s rare enough (at least here in America with all these mustangs, Camaros, and challengers) that you def get some looks passing by.
I think you should add rain guards so you can open the windows a little bit for fresh air when its raining, especially when cooking to clear the smoke. Great video!
With frameless doors you sasly cant have rain guards. Best there is are side with deflectors that go over them. They work mostly when driving. But if rain is light like here it isnt much of a problem

The original 86 was made to hold 4 spare tires so you can go to the racetrack with your street tires, and put your racetrack tires on without having to tow anything. This request was actually made by the original AE86 owners in Club4AG when Toyota asked for customer requests because the 86 is the successor to the AE86 :D This is why the GR86 is so practical!

Yes, car camping is safe. In all my car camping experience, I've rarely been bothered by a person or wildlife. However, occasionally things do happen and where you decide to park for the night is usually the biggest factor.
So cool to see a legend be able to do many things from daily drivers, track racing, drifting, touge racing, and even camping!? I mean what else could you want this is the perfect daily car for many people..

This is great! We use our GT86 as a camper too. Nice to know we're not the only crazy people who do this. It's the same colour as yours. 2020 we did a 16 day roadtrip only sleeping in the 86. But we use a 1.3 x 1.9 m foam mattress and normal blankets. Even though I am 1.85m tall I can sleep comfortably in there. The window shades are a great idea! Which Material is that? It is surprising that your windows aren't fogged. We sleep with the windows half way down and usually the rear windows are fogged, sometimes the windscreen aswell (depending on the weather). Do you have something else to handle moisture or is it just held up by the shades? Keep that interesting stuff up! Greetings from Germany

That was brilliant. You took the best version of this car (though I am a Subaru fan boy), with the best color of the car, added the lovely TOM's bits, and went all prepared to camp in it. Amazing! Although I am a Subaru fan I do have a Yaris TS (Vitz, 2004) and a Jimny which I did take to camp a few times, slept crumped in the back seat from side to side, it was tough but I made it. Great times. I wish I could buy the GR86 but it does not sell in my country sadly and to import one will cost about, in current exchange rate: 11,020,000 Yen. So I guess I will start to watch your videos about beautiful Japan I want to visit one day, in another dream car I wish to have one day. Thank you for your time to put on the subtitles!

It made me realize that Japan is blessed to have such a car sold at a reasonable price in an era when sports cars are not popular.
About to do something like this end of the month here in US - will probably use a wood board + 2 folding crates I'll use for stuff anyway (InstaCrate, our Costco sells these, maybe yours does too!) as pillow area. These cars need good power BADLY, but handling and versatility is second to none in their class! You guys have the GR Yaris though, and I can imagine that one being an absolute treat for long trips.
Thanks for watching my video! Yes, the GR86 is lightweight and powerful for a cheap price, and I'm sure the GR Yaris can carcamp, but the soon-to-be-released GR Corolla looks more comfortable for the same hatchback.
One time I had a small roadtrip I decided to take 1 day early in my 86, but turns out there were no hotel rooms available around the area I was in. So I went to the store and bought a blanket and slept in the back of my 86 just like in this video!
The more and more I watch Camping videos, the more and more truer what Jeremy Clarkson said, “Camping is deliberately making life harder for yourself.”

@@KrashKan My biggest excuse for getting the 2023 1LE 2SS was that I am a GM Mechanic. Otherwise I'd probably buy some older Japanese car but the roads here just don't fair well with them.
@@frbrbrgrblgrr7777 i got a 2014 1LS but i dont like all the modern overengineered stuff gm has done to it. can't even change the shift knob without doing some goofy adapter with a grub screw that nobody makes.
@@KrashKan they make them less and less worth working on. I got a 10 speed for a reason, it has less electric garbage to monitor it than the 6 speed manual. Truth be told I mostly own this car for the later on resale to the old people lol
Very creative set up! Do you have any issues with condensation buildup between the insulation and the glass? If so, it might be worth hiding magnets behind the interior trim and making plates that stick on.

Having more “air barrier” between the glass and whatever is covering it will help reduce it a lot. Your videos remind me of when I was younger and didn’t have to worry about stuff so much. Keep having fun, I look forward to seeing more!

Thanks for watching my video! There are some places in Japan where it is allowed and some where it is not. Many places prohibit fire even if long term parking is allowed, so I have been using campgrounds more and more these days.

I hope this video was helpful to you. It's a small space, so you can have fun and be creative. Sedans and sports cars can do that.
If you dont rear folding seats it might be far less comfortable and you will need to sleep in flat reclined front seat instead

@@ViPER5RT10 The new one is definitely a lot faster (feeling?) than the old one... Significantly faster in my opinion - for the manual that is.
Make this your second. Buy some shitbox for the first one; believe me and if you don’t, trust my wallet lol.

Some of the best sleeps I've ever had have been in my Mustang while in the rain. Usually on a lunch break or between classes back in the day.

Camping in a sports car is great fun, the GR Supra is a 2 seater so camping like the GR86 can be difficult.

That was brilliant. You took the best version of this car (though I am a Subaru fan boy), with the best color of the car, added the lovely TOM's bits, and went all prepared to camp in it. Amazing!
Although I am a Subaru fan I do have a Yaris TS (Vitz, 2004) and a Jimny which I did take to camp a few times, slept crumped in the back seat from side to side, it was tough but I made it. Great times.
I wish I could buy the GR86 but it does not sell in my country sadly and to import one will cost about, in current exchange rate: 11,020,000 Yen.
So I guess I will start to watch your videos about beautiful Japan I want to visit one day, in another dream car I wish to have one day.

The GR86 is the result of a collaboration between Toyota and Subaru, so it has been well received by fans on both sides. It made me realize that Japan is blessed to have such a car sold at a reasonable price in an era when sports cars are not popular.

About to do something like this end of the month here in US - will probably use a wood board + 2 folding crates I'll use for stuff anyway (InstaCrate, our Costco sells these, maybe yours does too!) as pillow area. These cars need good power BADLY, but handling and versatility is second to none in their class! You guys have the GR Yaris though, and I can imagine that one being an absolute treat for long trips.

Yes, the GR86 is lightweight and powerful for a cheap price, and I'm sure the GR Yaris can carcamp, but the soon-to-be-released GR Corolla looks more comfortable for the same hatchback.

One time I had a small roadtrip I decided to take 1 day early in my 86, but turns out there were no hotel rooms available around the area I was in. So I went to the store and bought a blanket and slept in the back of my 86 just like in this video!

@@KrashKan My biggest excuse for getting the 2023 1LE 2SS was that I am a GM Mechanic. Otherwise I'd probably buy some older Japanese car but the roads here just don't fair well with them.
@@frbrbrgrblgrr7777 i got a 2014 1LS but i dont like all the modern overengineered stuff gm has done to it. can't even change the shift knob without doing some goofy adapter with a grub screw that nobody makes.
@@KrashKan they make them less and less worth working on. I got a 10 speed for a reason, it has less electric garbage to monitor it than the 6 speed manual. Truth be told I mostly own this car for the later on resale to the old people lol

Very creative set up! Do you have any issues with condensation buildup between the insulation and the glass? If so, it might be worth hiding magnets behind the interior trim and making plates that stick on.

It does have condensation as you said. I know it's unavoidable as long as I sleep in the car, but I'll take your great ideas into consideration.
Having more “air barrier” between the glass and whatever is covering it will help reduce it a lot. Your videos remind me of when I was younger and didn’t have to worry about stuff so much. Keep having fun, I look forward to seeing more!

There are some places in Japan where it is allowed and some where it is not. Many places prohibit fire even if long term parking is allowed, so I have been using campgrounds more and more these days.
