From a musician's standpoint... this song is tight. Not only is the music very well arranged with a FAT horn section, the video homage to the Blues Brothers, Ray Charles and one of the most iconic dance scenes in history, is just frosting on the cake. Bravo!
The greatest "fake it till you make it" success story ever, which is weird given that they started as superstars. Nobody gets this good and tight, even in the studio, without 20+ years of regular playing together, whether it's in the studio like the Wrecking Crew, or through live touring as these guys did. They're the real thing, legit and fantastic musicians. 15-year-old me would never have believed how good they've gotten.
Man, poor Hanson, getting stuck with an unfortunate boy band image in the nineties which sidelined them commercially. This song and video are fucking brilliant. If this was a just world, this song would have been a number one hit. A truly underrated, actual BAND.
Simon I totally agree with you, but at the same time I'm very happy that now they don't get the same media attention they used to get in the nineties. This means they're not into the secret agenda behind the music industry. I do hope they keep up their confidence and keep up their good work without selling out to the music industry.
They always thought they were a for-real rock band, and never "got the memo" that their days as a bubblegum-pop fad were over. When other boy bands grew up and went home, they just shrunk down the size of the venues, reduced the footprint of their stage show, and just pounded out hard-working concerts for... jeez, 20 years now. You can't fake the experience, skill, and chops that come from playing 200 gigs a year for that long. The time and mileage they've put in makes them more real and legit than they ever were for Mercury/Def Jam.
Whether or not you like Hanson, you have to appreciate that they (1) write their own songs (2) play their own instruments and can actually sing. And have a sense of humor. This video is perfect for the song and a great way to pay respect to a great movie. It also doesn't hurt to have Weird Al on the tambourine :)
Hanson has made some incredible records over the years. ..shame they get overlooked..radio stations should be ashamed of themselves for NOT playing their music..
And let me just add this... when you can get Weird Al to make a cameo in your video, you've hit the Big Time. Weird Al doesn't just appear in your music video. He's in their video because those 3 boys are freaking great musicians. I respect them. They have an incredible, almost innate sense of harmony. I sound like a weirdo here, but I wish I could instill that sense of harmony in my own students. These guys are good.
Mo. You know. Back when Hanson was at the height of their popularity, they were on The Weird Al Show, which was a Saturday morning show on CBS. Unfortunately, there was no publicity about it at all, so there were no ratings changes at all for the show.
Hanson is such an unusual, unique group: they were huge in the 90’s but were absolutely viewed as like a “kiddie” band or something by a lot of people (which wasn’t entirely untrue, given their age and much of their fan base at the time), but here were 3 brothers who had immense innate musical talent and potential from the start and grew into very charming adults who are obviously seasoned from all that early fame and performing. I think the sad thing is the stigma that was thrust upon them from their early years ultimately made them easy to write off for many people, but it’s clear that they are happy doing what they do and are damn good at it. Thing is, they really are great musicians, writers and performers. Loved the BB homage, btw. 👍🏼
I am a TOTAL headbanger who prefers heavy metal tuneage, but GODDAMMIT! I loves me some Hansen! These guys are the best the pop music genre has had to offer for years now, and they've been doing their "bubblegum" style in awesome fashion since they were just kids. These brothers are great singers and talented musicians. Today's crapulous pop "artists" (and I use the term loosely) should take a page from the Hansen playbook and learn that THIS is how it's done!
Yes definitely. No one sounds like Hanson! They've always done their own thing. When they first came out, I was 18 and was still listening to grunge ect. There was just something about them, boys that just made me so darn happy! I got so much crap for it. Didn't matter though. They're still the best pop band there is! 😁
Tigger Too I Sooo agree with. I am a huge punk and metal fan but Hanson was my first concert and middle of nowhere was the first album I bought but im 28 and I absolutely still love these guys! I must be the only person who wears a Hanson shirt to a death metal show! Can't wait for their 2017 tour and Hanson Day in Tuls in May!
Blues brothers is on TV now and I didn't realise just how identical this video was until I watched them simultaneously. Some parts are identically timed and clothes people are wearing are identical too. What a great job they have done. The video is amazing anyway but it's just fantastic to see them side by side. Must have taken ages to pull it off.
Ya know when Hanson first came out in the 90's everyone said they were gonna be on hit wonders, their so young, their not gonna last. But 15 years later(I'm 23 now), their still going strong, making amazing music, married, kids, no drug/alcohol problems. This is what great musicians look like. Team Hanson all the way
I'm a balls-to-the-wall headbanger whose favor genre of music is heavy metal, but I just can't help myself -- I LOVES ME SOME HANSON! I love how this song is an homage to Ray Charles' performance in "The Blues Brothers" movie. Whenever I see the video for "Thinking 'Bout Somethin'," it never fails to bring a smile to my face. It's so upbeat!
Hey Hey, much respect. The world needs a positive band like this. Hanson went independent and has steadily been making music, their way. Nice body of work, and much more on the way I'm sure. 👍
Honestly cannot believe that I never saw this until last night: this is incredible! Man you guys can jam AND dance! This is a perfect much needed, feel good video during this stressful pandemic, so THANK YOU! ❤
There's simply nothing as addictive as great sibling harmonies, whether it's The Everly Brothers, the Beach Boys, The Bee Gees or Hanson. Their sound here is so classic it would be a hit in any decade of the rock 'n' roll era.
@@absolutnadia then you aren't appreciating the vision and talent that went into making this video. Yankovic reminds us that he is an icon with this video.
As a man born in the 80's, I realize how popular it was to hate these guys when they first came out. (ahem... mmmbop...) but the wanna be Jazz musician in me can't help but love the horns in their recent stuff. Keep it up guys! This is a fantastic song. It deserved more airplay, and I hope that someone decides to feature this in a TV show or movie so that it gets a second chance to become as popular as it should have been.
How is it that I don't hear about this song until Todd in the Shadows mentioned it in one of his videos six years after it came out? This song sounds like if Colin James took his Little Big Band and went more pop than usual. This song should have been a hit.
JimmySteller from what I have gathered, record labels try to push artists they have signed, since this was independently produced, there was no reason for anyone, aside from Hanson, to push this song.
my goodness I love this music video. it's so carefree and fun. I love how the dance is simple, and anyone can do it. they don't worry about small mistakes here and there. it's just so happy.
Hanson is amazing and they are definitely underrated! I've been a fan for 14+ years and they're so good to us! People need to get over themselves and realize that YES they did grow up and YES they still make great music. I'll forever be a Fanson :) Love you guys!!
so catchy and funny ! I agree, these guys have talent to spare but since they left the big labels & went independent they just don't get any media attention.

It is a crime that this song was not a hit in the United States. Just criminal!
Laurie Eno Well, they prefer boring shit like Justin Biber and Lady Gaga.
While sillier songs getting all the air time

One of the best music videos I've seen. The total homage to Blues Brothers was awesome
I came here for "Weird Al" on the tambourine. I found more greatness than that. I am not disappointed.
