My view is simple, if you are not adult enough to handle my game, leave. I don’t have time to deal with snowflakes. If little things upset you, life is too short to deal with your sensitivities.

After my 8year old daughter was mauled by 2 dogs I asked my DM if we could not have dog/wolf bad guys for a few weeks. He agreed and we had a few blue goblin fights in the forest. At that time I needed a break from the reality of what dogs do. Snowflake? Maybe, but everyone at my table understood and our fun wasn't impeded.

I don't have children, so I cannot say I understand your problem. If you 8 year old daughter had been hit by a car, would you have avoided driving in a car?
I cannot say for sure, but I was in your position, my character would have gone out of his way to kill every dog or wolf I could find.
I remember when two hunting dogs came into my mother's yard and literally tore her cat into pieces.
My late wife had a scar by her eye where a dog bit her then ran away. She had to go through the entire set of rabies shots.

The correct action is to get your girl through therapy to the point where she can pet a dog, even if she never has a dog as a pet herself. And make sure that it is with _big_ dogs. But not to expect the slightest modification of the life-path of any other human being.

I'm not in the military, but i work in a hospital as a nurse.
I dealt with a lot of situations where death was inevitable and often better than life.
I agree that a lot of people should learn to deal with these stuff because every living creature has to deal with this in their life.
Instead of pushing such thougts away it is better to learn to live with it for their own good.

I was at GEN CON 1989, the only time I made the trip, and TSR, Inc. had the stupidity of hiring a Fundamentalist Christian gamer to have a seminar about the image of gaming. Now, many seminars were only attended by convention-goers because it got them RPGA Points. If they found out an event got them points, they gleefully cried, "Points! Points! Points!" all up and down the halls.
But this presenter was a piece of work. His attitude was that gamers were doing shameful things in their game (as free adults) that gave D&D a Satanic reputation. It was _mea culpa_ for the gamers. He didn't say anything about people like the Rev. John S. Torrell or Patricia Pulling or Thomas Radecki bearing false witness about the hobby.
He mentioned things about "cleaning up your games". He said in his games he did not allow the killing of bound orcs as prisoners. Now, maybe he had an actual prisoner-of-war experience, I don't know, he didn't go into it. But he said in his games there is an Orc Collection Service. After emptying a dungeon of its treasure, the Orc Collection Service took these implacable orcs and carted them off to some humane gulag, whatever. He also said that, if as a character you practiced torture, you could no longer enter his store, he would not buy or sell from you, a right little martinet in his little FLGS local empire! In other words, he would put a big X-Card on real people! This was a weird kind of gamer/SJW protoplasm on two legs, let me tell you!

I think you are mislead about kids. if anything they seem more willing to deal with fucked up shit in rpgs eg: I had an encounter where the party had to kill this team of mercenaries to add some "gritty realism" and to root out the snowflakes when they inevitably looked though the captains person to loot his belongings they found a letter addressed to the mans family now this shocked the rest of the party but guess what the 10 year old did
he wrote to the family saying that the captain was still living and if they wanted him back they would have to pay a "metric fuckton" of a ransom, after he got it he sent back the dead body
    Yeah.

i Work at a Maid Cafe in San Francisco. i literally Serve Coffee for Neckbeards who want the fantasy of being served by a tiny seemingly underage anime girl in a maid dress. i had to defend myself a few times. i know how harsh it is being a small woman serving tea for creepy neckbeards. i keep backup characters ready at an appropriate level. but i try to avoid full on Fetish RP or gratuitous Squick. sure, i'll include Squick and harshness, but i try to be tasteful about it. Alfred Hitchcock was amazing. but not every obstacle is going to be beatable by combat.

Life is rough; that’s why I’m playing a *fantasy game*. This isn’t real life. This is a *game* that’s supposed to be *fun*. I’d rather not have intrusive thoughts about my sexual assault while trying to *play a god damn game*. You can have mature content in your games but tell your players that beforehand, and don’t judge people for *wanting their fantasy game that they play for fun to be enjoyable*.
EDIT: Don’t know how to fix the formatting

Never used x-cards, never will, on the times I've DM'd for strangers at cons and meetings I offer a disclaimer that my games deal with very mature themes and language, those of a sensitive disposition should avoid the game.

I actually like the X-card, because it gives you permission to push the envelope with a group of players you don't necessarily know, while having a mechanism available for players who might get too comfortable.
We want the hobby to expand right? and not just be the same people we always play with. So why are we going against something that can help introduce people to the mature, adult style gaming we like while giving them a tool to help the GM pull back if he goes too far.
That player or GM can decide after the session that the game isn't for them, but -in- session, The X card is an agile way to adjust in play and keeps the game going.

Have you seen the movie Pulp Fiction. I am thinking of the scene where Mia Wallace asks, “Besides, isn’t it more exciting when you don’t have permission?” Not asking permission is how the game has always grown. Have you read the article about Sturmgeschütz and Sorcery: quindiastudios.blogspot.com/2011/04/sturmgeschutz-and-sorcery-part-i.html
Garry Gygax pushed all the rules when he had a group of WWII miniature players playing a Waffen SS patrol fighting an Evil High Priest. Think about it, Nazi's vs. a D&D Evil High Priest. This was printed in The Strategic Review, Volume 1 Number 5, on pages 3-6. How many ways could people get triggered on this one?
This is how the rule that all Armor Piercing (AP) rounds above 20mm are considered magical, and all High Explosive (HE) and other types of rounds above 50 mm are also magical.

The mechanism available to players is USING YOUR WORDS! If you're uncomfortable with a particular topic, talk about it with the table prior to the session. Or just don't play. It's really as simple as that.
Yes, we want the game to expand. But not if it means that I have to play with a group of SJW Feminazis who can't handle anything negative happening. God forbid we act like heroes and prevent the bad thing from happening, the old fashioned way, instead of just "opting out" of the situation all together.
if I was DMing, and a player told me that they didn't want any part of the situation at hand, I'd respond with "Okay, your character decides not to watch this train wreck of a situation, and walks back inside the tavern... What does everybody else do?" because the situation still exists.

    • @Dracopol
      @Dracopol 6 лет назад +2

We really don't want the hobby to expand with snowflakes. If an individual snowflake melts it's no big deal, let them be a puddle. But if there are too many it will make for a _very chilly_ situation for all gamers.

He died in December so I'll try to answer. It's probably something he didn't feel enhanced the game, i mean it's just going to make the pc kill the npc anyway. Another thing might be like a lot of people he didn't want to role play sex.

Offensive Picture, This the first video of his I've ever seen. Subbed immediately when he said bovine fecal matter. Shame he is gone, but RUclips is kind of like looking through a telescope. You still can experience that which is already gone.JD Fullerton, everyone has their own "moral line in the sand" as it were. What he had to experience at work probably drove the point home enough to cause his decision.
