Quintus appears to be quite level headed as he could've had Jesus executed any time he wanted. As I assume Quintus is a fictional character representing a very important Roman official, it would be interesting to see if Quintus ever finds out that Jesus died and was resurrected. What would also be interesting is if Quintus ever converted or finally meets The Lord Jesus in the after life in all of his glory. It would be hoped that Quintus converted, but being a most loyal Roman Soldier, that would be unrealistic. There was a film made several years ago titled Risen starring Joseph Feinnes as a Roman Tribune - a position equivalent to a colonel in the army. Spoiler alert. The tribune was responsible for carrying out Jesus' execution and later saw and visited with the resurrected Jesus for several days. The Tribune converted and gave up his Roman position realizing that you can't serve two masters.
The first Gentile to convert to Christianity actually was a Roman official! His name was Cornelius, and the event is described in the New Testament. Simon Peter had a vision that let him know it was time to extend conversion to non-Jews. This prominent Roman converted alongside his entire household, and the Holy Spirit descended on them and they started speaking in tongues.
I think one of the reasons this series is so enjoyable is because of the subtle humor in the verbal exchanges. The characters are also shown as "rational actors", that is, they behave like people in the real world would act instead of making choices like actors in rigid, scripted roles.
I get the feeling Jesus visited other civilizations in His life. We don't know much about Him before 29 or 30 years old. The forty days after His ressurection is shrouded in mystery. Then we have other parts of the world who speak of a mysterious, divine man visiting them.
I can definitely see The Lord doing this kind of thing: disarming death threats the way He did in this portrayal. I can understand Quintas, because before I was saved, I tended to look similar to him in the fact that I prided myself on my intellect and achievements. I likely would have been in his shoes; despite that he's likely a made-up character. The way Yeshua Messiah met Quintas's threat, seems to me to be a fine example of a soft answer turning away wrath; compounded with an unrelenting Spirit with His massive dedication to the Father, and of course, to the point of death on a cross as it is written.. He said that He could not promise any thing regarding Quintus's complaints of disruption, and followed up with basically saying that He was going to do God's will regardless; by saying that he cannot promise any of the conditions Quintus wanted him to make. I'm learning the humanity and practical application of scripture, FROM A TV SHOW MEANT FOR ENTERTAINMENT. THAT is how far-reaching the mercy and grace of God really is. This isn't some sort of white boy, L'Oreal poster-child, monotonous and pious to the Nth degree kinda Jesus show. .....I love that.
Quintus is not a made-up character, he's actually in the Apocrypha which is another version that the KJV version of the Bible leaves out. Just like the Dead Sea Scrolls. You just happen to witness a character that was not talked about in the King James version and no I'm not dissing The King James version but it was made in the 1600s which was well after when Christ came. So no surprise that there would be missing pieces.
"That's usually how it goes." - Jesus. Btw, anyone catch that Jesus' outer robe was purple in this scene - the same color as would bestow royalty - or perhaps by the director to use as a forshadowing the same purple robe he would wear in the final 12 hours of his life.
Honestly it seems like Quintus is just doing his job. He is not cruel or capricious. He is a Roman, probably of the equestrian class, who was born and raised to see protecting Rome and enforcing it’s order as a sacred duty. No doubt he is mistaken, but through no fault of his own.

@@TheWelvarend I absolutely think whoever cast Brandon for that role......nailed it. Who else could pull off that character that well?
@@TheWelvarend Ahh.....you beat me to it! But yes he has a dead on de Lancie voice.

I love how they made the romans have American accents and not British, both still being unrealistic but with British being iconic in cinema. Kinda gives that “western occupier” vibe, very thematic
It's more masculine and poignant too; a much better fit for the Romans in my opinion.
Britain was part of the Roman empire so there would have been soldiers in the Roman army from Britain and other European countries, so it actually wouldnt be too innaccurate compared to American accents, but Italian actors would be better for historical accuracy
@@Jake-pm3pzmodern English only came into being around 1500, old English was in its infancy long after the Empire fell and after the abandonment of Britain

I love the show
I freaked out when I first heard Quintus’ voice because he sounds exactly like “Q” from Star Trek: The Next Generation.”

Brilliant performance by Brandon Potter . ❤

I love how the Romans have American accents to differentiate them from the Jewish people. It's very jarring and a little unsettling when you've been immersed in everyone else's accents for so many scenes and all of a sudden BAM.
I love how Jesus is wearing purple and white robe
"I don't know what that means, but let's end this on a high note."
The best of his lines in a slew of great lines.
I love the way Jesus talks to Quintus using the same way you talk to narcissists when you communicate with them using the gray rock technique. He's great 🙏
The actor playing Quintus is amazing!
I didn't catch this the first time but I never noticed how jesus knew quintus name.
Why wouldn't he?
@@MidwestFarmToysThere’s some “grey area” with how much of God’s infinite knowledge that Jesus possessed at any given time. Like on the cross when Jesus asked “Lord God, why has thou forsaken me?”, obviously he wouldnt be asking that if Jesus knew the answer so theres times when Jesus has access to what they need, and there are others where Jesus experiencing the human side of things with confusion and dismay is important to the gospels.
Jesus Jedi mind trick quintus and he didn't even know. Lol
The cross! the cross, oh, that's our gain,
Because on that the Lamb was slain:
'Twas there the Lord was crucified,
'Twas there for us the Saviour died.
What wondrous cause could move Thy heart
To take on Thee our curse and smart,
Well knowing we should ever be
So cold, so negligent of Thee ?
The cause was love - we sink with shame
Before our blessed Jesus' name,
That He should bleed and suffer thus,
Because He loved and pitied us.
That's spectacularly beautiful!
I love all the actors that play in The Chosen. The actor that plays Quintus does such a remarkable job. I personally didn't care for the fish & bones analogy in this scene but still wonderful scene..
Little did Qvintvs know that he was sitting in front of the One on Whose image Roma would be refounded and Who she and her descendants would worship .The one who made Roma truly Great and Glorious .
This is unironically the funniest scene in the series and brilliant at the same time.
What Atticus *is* in this is something fundamentially unknown in the "NATO world" but was *remarkably commonplace* in the Eastern Bloc of a mere 3 or so decades ago: he's a *commissar*; what his "department" really *is* is Rome's NKVD- he's their "Elim Garak" to draw on Star Trek Deep Space 9.
Quintus is......quite the character. To think this guy is a Funimation actor.

Hearing the Bible in über-contemporary language is fascinating. How did I miss this?
Thank you for this comment man I actually did not like this scene until I scrolled down and read your comment and then it clicked with me... this really isn't supposed to be that biblical as far as the speech goes, it is like you said Uber-contemporary language...language and acting of today but "Bible scripture" accurate in a way not necessarily the way they talked but what was meant. I like this scene and the acting now!!
It was poo-pooed when it started but has since showed how valuable this sort of thing is to bring in newcomers. It’s not the word, but if it helped one person pick up a Bible it’s accomplished it’s mission
Fun scene. This show is awesome.
The writing for this show is superb!

The actor playing Quintus had so much fun with this scene.
Risen is a phenomenal movie! Good reference.
@@princevesperal the Bible also mentions a Roman officer who asked for Jesus to heal his son. After that, he and his family believed in him.
I think one of the reasons this series is so enjoyable is because of the subtle humor in the verbal exchanges.
The characters are also shown as "rational actors", that is, they behave like people in the real world would act instead of making choices like actors in rigid, scripted roles.
I am going to watch this twenty time lol I LOVE IT THO you guys did good you deserve the love
So lovely. Thank you 💗💗💗

Would love to see...such ...scenes more
I get the feeling Jesus visited other civilizations in His life.
Why did Jesus say, "It was a privilege to speak with you today, Quintus"? - 5:10
@@ddjj8 The KJV initially had the apocrypha, later editions, compelled by the churches of Protestant faith, omitted them.

Btw, anyone catch that Jesus' outer robe was purple in this scene - the same color as would bestow royalty - or perhaps by the director to use as a forshadowing the same purple robe he would wear in the final 12 hours of his life.
The dialogue is astonishing.
Close your eyes and Quintus sounds just like John del Lancie

Honestly it seems like Quintus is just doing his job. He is not cruel or capricious. He is a Roman, probably of the equestrian class, who was born and raised to see protecting Rome and enforcing it’s order as a sacred duty. No doubt he is mistaken, but through no fault of his own.
The word 'HEAR IAM' is awesome
