- The Revox A77 Reel-To-Reel Tape Recorder From 1969!
an amazing piece of equipment. the heads and pinchroller need replacement, they are used a whole lot, so they are kind of worn out. the record head doesnt work good anymore, so i used a tape recorded on the AKAI GX-4000D tape recorder. Развлечения
I've just bought one of these, except mine is a MK3 with built in speakers. It even has the original keys and Revox tags for locking the front cover. Just waiting for it to be delivered. It's funny because when i was a kid, my father had an Akai 4000D in 1970 and he used to buy hifi magazines. I was fascinated with the Revox A77 and always wanted one. Now I shall have one after all these years:) I also have an Akai 4000DB :)
Great video! Thanks!
Never heard enya on reel to reel. Awesome
The power jack is a modern 3-pole IEC, nice! Someone must have installed that recently. Similar to the edit mode on professional machines, with the reel motors off you can turn the reels by hand to the exact spot on the tape, while pinch roller is engaged so you have audio monitor.
Willy Studer was an Swiss people and he takes the Chef of this companie .
I thought the head on mine may have needed replaced until I got under the head guard better. It livened the head up and it records fantastic.
@oviwolf thanx for the info, i am thinking about replacing all the capacitors, as soon as i have proper replacements.
@jimster586 that is for sure! thank you!
@DrCassette the only way to tell if it is 2-track or 4-track is a little sticker on one of the heads or the pinchroller arm. sometimes (like on mine) the sticker isn't there, and you have to look at the heads themselves. the most easy way is to look at the erase head, if you see 2 small tracks, then it usuaylly is 4-track. if you see 2 larger tracks, that almost cover the whole tape-width, then you have a 2-tracker.
be careful, revox heads are very soft, so you very often find worn out heads!
You're not threading the tape right. It should go over the lefthand post. NAB and IEC are two different kinds if equalization BTW. Nice vid though!
@oviwolf thank you!
What a "Boring" tour of the A77! . Paul.
As a new owner of an old A77 MKI it is my understanding that it does not have "full logic control" as you stated in the video. You need to be careful and not switch from FF or RW into PLAY. There is no logic circuitry to prevent the tape from spooling out all over the place in that circumstance. Please correct me if this is wrong. I love my unit and am in the process of replacing the capacitors, trim pots and motor bearings. Cheers
Very nice machine! I'm thinking about replacing my stupid plastic Philips N7150 reel-to-reel with an A77. I'm currently observing Ebay prices.
Do you know if there's anything on the machine that tells you if the machine is 2 track or 4 track? Very nice that there's a way to get the VU meters to monitor the playback levels!
The speaker jacks are DIN jacks, and the German text on the back tells you in wich factory this machine was made.
@DrCassette....but otherwise its a very good idea to upgrade from your N7150...i have one too...i saw it on the dutch ebay "free to pick up" and it was near my place so i went and took it.
i have never seen a recorder built so badly....gear-driven reel tables? what the hell!
it does work, but does not sound all that good....and i don't think it will get any better.
the "lunch box recorders" like the N4422 i have, have belt-driven reel tables (3 motors) but have a metal chassis and sound good
