Not once did he say his family immigrated to Canada. He went to a prestigious high school and a great University.
Because he doesn't want Americans to know he is not American. People like him who try to hide they are Canadians show their character weakness.
He talks about Canada all the time. This might be the first interview I haven't heard him mention it specifically

I’ve always liked Simu but he’s from Canada, not America. It would’ve been cool if he could acknowledge the role Canada had in his parents journey and his own. It’s a really immigrant friendly country even compared to America.
I was thinking the same thing. As a Canadian, I was a little saddened to see how he had to twist his words to avoid mentioning Canada.
It’s all in his book 📖 I bet it’s a wonderful read.
When he said America, I was thinking maybe he meant North America? He reps hard for Canada, so that's why I want to give him the benefit of the doubt
He did correct himself and say North America. But also, he talks about being from Canada all the time. He mentioned it multiple time the last time he was on the show, and this might be the first interview I've watch of his when he didn't specifically say Canada.

Whoopi, just quit for real if you don’t want to be there. You joke so much about not wanting to be there-and to say that while your job is being in the Bahamas is so privileged. You can’t complain about not being hired for film, but then basically say you hate your job. Like, be thankful for what you have. It’s so insensitive to people who work in jobs they actually hate because of hard they are.

All these overpaid, overindulge actors, talk show hosts and singers telling ordinary people to quit their jobs and demand more, smh!! Do they know they live in a Capitalist economy where there has to be a majority of people at the bottom so these people can live in luxury?
Our system can and has easily supported people at that level. What we cannot support is total greed and avarice of people like Bezos, Musk, and Zuckerberg.

I get why his marketing people have him continually refer to the Asian American experience and his parents wanting to "come to America" instead of his home country of Canada in order to appeal to American audiences but it's a bit disheartening lol

Yeah, he corrected it to North America... but never mentioned Canada. I first saw him on a Canadian TV show (Kim's Convenience) but I bet a lot of people do not know he is Canadian. 😎
@@TitoTimTravels Yeah, I believe it's his marketing people who told him that so that AAPI just assume he is Asian American like themselves and so are more likely to purchase his book. It's like when they have Canadian TV shows and never explicitly say it takes place in Canada.
If you watch enough of his interviews, you know he talks about being from Canada all the time. The three things that usually come up are him being from Canada, him getting fired from being an accountant and him being in a bunch of stock photos.
Interesting the double standard as it relates to women being able to comment about a man’s appearance in a flirty and sexual way but men can’t do that without some repercussions or being called inappropriate.
