They would be less expensive than having something custom made and would probably fit better. So why doesn't he just get one? No idea. For some reason he seems to prefer to spray deodorant (or whatever it is) on the regular plate each time he uses the enlarger.
I have two of them, one is Schneider 50mm and second one Rodenstock 80mm, quite cheep options, but works great. I like Rodenstock better, because aperture limit knob, so you can close it to the same parameters.
