Awesome video Ludovic! I randomly stumbled upon your channel while looking at Thailand travel videos, I've always wanted to go there & you just cemented that for me haha! It looks like you had tons of fun! Great work filming & editing! I just recently started making travel videos about a month ago while traveling Europe. I know all the hard work that goes into it! Your videos great! Have a good day! You just earned yourself a new subscriber!
If everything goes as planned I'll go next summer! If you have time I'd love to get your feedback on a video I posted yesterday called 'EuroTrip 2015' I'm always trying to improve!
Hey Man.. This is a great video and Place.. After watching this I decided to take a trip to Thailand and did it with my friends in Last July (July 2015). Nice Job Man..
+kevincelt88 hope you will enjoy ! I wish to go back someday, I really recommend you to rent a boat for about 6h and visit the small islands around / snorkeling. Might be a bit expensive though since you are alone but totally worth it imo.
kevincelt88 hope you can do that, it has been few times people asked me which company we used for the boat trip, but actually that's just people sitting around the island waiting for customer (like a taxi driver). We didn't use any company, even though i'm sure you can book more luxurious boat. However we loved the freedom of hiring those guys for the day and choose where we wanna go. Your best shot is maybe to try make friends there and do it with them (best price/experience I bet compare to booking a tour fully packed on a speedboat). We saw many of those speedboat when we were enjoying snorkeling, they just pass very fast, stop 10 secs for picture and go. Definitively not the same experience. Also If I was going again for the tour, i'd skip the northern islands and stay south because the boat you see in the video is very slow and it's quite far to go from south to north. Plus south is so much better for snorkeling that I couldn't care less to go north on some beaches which at the end didn't feel special compare to what we saw before (e.g. mosquitos island).
Amazing video Ludovic. Compliments. I have in plain already to go in Phoket Island in the next March 2015. I was wandering that my NIKON D600 would be enough but, after watching your video I really think will get soon a GO PRO. Would you like please give me a suggestion about what is the best model to buy to make a same kind and style of video as yours...?? I mean, same kind of location, and idea... One more time let me write congratulation to you.
thanks Paolo, appreciate it ! Regarding the best model, if you don't have budget limit, go for the new gopro 4 black edition (500$), Otherwise go for gopro 4 silver edition, it's a bit cheaper. I just got myself a 4 black edition and the quality is better than the 3+ black edition I used for this video. Also note that 3+ black edition and 4 silver edition are about the same, except you have a back-screen now on the 4 silver edition.
Ok Ludovic, got it. I will buy 4 black edition. Thank you very much for your suggestion. And, by the way (I promse this is the last question:-)..... What program you had used to do the video. There is a software included on the camera delivery...?? Are you using Apple software..?? Or maybe some interesting program for Microsoft..??
Paolo Borelli Gopro provides a free software you can download and also a paying version with more functions (all called cineform studio). I personally used the free version at the beginning but tossed it after 2 projects as I had very annoying bugs. I now use adobe premiere which is one of the best in the market (I don't have mac so I can't try their solutions). My advice, start with cineform studio if you have no experience, still very good/easy to use.
thanks for making such a great clip. We had a very similar trip there this summer and your video really reminded us of the amazing time we all had. Great work!
GoProQuest the first version I used gopro studio and this one i re-edited everything in premiere cc (mostly for the stabilization and fix timing issue between sound and video because gopro studio is not convenient to do that unless they updated it since last time I used it)
Ludovic Boudinet Hi, what filter did you use with GoPro? I never used mine underwater and would like to have nice pics and videos and not miss any color. I won't do any professional diving, regular tourist activities and maybe once or twice an amateur scuba diving experince. Waiting for you advices. Especially when you dive in a slo-mo version in this video the color is really good. Please let me know.
Hey, I didn't use any filter, just post prod correction in this video. I think filter doesn't add anything when snorkeling or diving at few meter. The slo-mo is barely 1 meter deep if you refer to the fishes part. I tried a red filter in another trip, I will not use it again, even more annoying during post prod (video too red). I'm not a specialist though, you might check online how to get best result and let me know :)

Hey just wondering if the water looks that shade of turquoise in real life or just on the camera? I'm tossing up between Phi Phi and Phang Nga Bay. Thankyou! Loved the video
Emma Joccy I have been to both places and you can see them in the video (canoe part is at Phang Nga Bay). Colors are real, some Phi phi island areas are more shallow this is why you can get this crazy turquoise color (in particular the famous area from the movie "the beach"). You will have to take a boat tour in Phi phi island from the many locals proposing it to see those places (6h tour - up to 6 ppl i think). Anyway if you have time i recommend to go to both places, they are the best (you need a tour as well for the canoe). I only spent 4d there and i basically skip any sightseeing in phuket itself (1 day in Phang Nga Bay and 2 nights in Phi Phi island).
***** you can combine anything, higher fps is for slow motion only. Also 4k is not really useful unless you shoot everything in 4k, especially if it's for youtube.
it's next to maya bay (the famous place from "the beach" movie which i didn't even watch). You need to go/stay in phi phi island, then you take a boat day trip and you can get there. It's not in phuket itself.
+Ludovic Boudinet Is John Gray worth the money vs cheaper kayak tours? How many you were in the group? and which tour did you take? I guess it would be impossible to find the way in if we just chartered a longboat and went exploring ourselves on a rented kayak? Or you can see people constantly coming in and out? Do you know the names of the islands (i think they visit 3?)
+Harcix I didn't try others companies so I can't tell. We chose John's Gray because they have good feedback and we were not disappointed. I guess going alone is a very unsafe decision because of the tide (you could get stuck or worse in some tunnels).
Got it! Any other suggestions - what was WOW and what not so much? Ill be there for a week only, i enjoy nature wonders and not big crowds. Not interested in nightlife. Also where should i base - phuket or krabi or somewhere else?
You can read my travel report on my blog which I linked in the video description, you can maybe find some tips. I enjoyed the most my time on phi phi island.
Superb video man, well done! I had my gopro when i went to Phi Phi Island last week, my vid isn't anywhere near as good as yours. You images were very stable. I had a problem with shaky images. But great video nonetheless!
Ahmed M thanks Ahmed. I did post production to improve the overall quality, such as stabilization. I was using a pole therefore original footage is shaky too.
What program do you use for post production? I only have iMovie and the GoPro app. I also have a problem when I shoot at 1080p/60 that the image is jumpy on the pc (I use a mac) and even when I play the video straight from go pro to the TV its still the same. Do you think its the memory card?
Ahmed M I use adobe premiere which offers a lot of cool stuff. I use gopro app at the very beginning but gave up quickly because of too many bugs. I heard iMovie is cool but i don't have Mac. For your issue, a friend of mine had the same and this was because of the memory card. You need a class 10 for gopro otherwise it can't write as fast as it should and screw the videos. Nevertheless, at least try to convert your video into 24 or 25fps, usually the videos don't look too smooth for me while playing 60fps or more (i have a very good computer, so i don't think it's related to his power). Remember, your eyes only see 24/25fps per second, having more is only useful for slow motion effect.
+Magda Jeznach It was in Phi Phi island, you don't need any license for snorkeling. For scuba diving since we didn't have any PADI level, we just signed up for a discovery dive with a local company. If you have your PADI, i guess you just need a partner and some gear.
+shaun ong i missed your question... you can easily book on the island, many locals are waiting for tourist and this is what we did (i think 3000 baht for 6h back in the time)

Maya Bay was amazing for snorkeling, we didn't land a foot on the beach though, it's so packed and you have to pay.
+boywonderbrye I just took like a 25min video and accelerate it during post-prod. Never tried the time lapse function of gopro as as far i as know it's creating multiple pictures you need to assemble. I found the first way easier for files handling.
Toth Ferenc I mostly used 2.7k/30fps with some 720/120fps and very few WVGA/240fps. For the latter the scenes are "obvious" because the resolution is way too low.

Hey really nice video.. Can you please tell me the settings if possible?
GoProQuest mostly 2.7k @30fps (gopro 3+)
Ludovic Boudinet was protune off or on?
GoProQuest can't remember for sure, this was my first video. I activated it since but that doesn't make a big different during post prod imo.
