Hi, I looked at this jacket today in Cotswold Outdoor, very helpful staff. Just a bit disappointed that this jacket does not have a 2 way zip - does anyone know if there is a reason for this. I find double zips very useful in a lot ways, driving, sitting etc. Thanks
Hi @barbaramilligan4090, thanks for your question. Not all brands (and then not all of their models) will choose to use double zips, normally depending on the envisioned end use of the jacket (but not always!). For instance, the Beta AR is an all round mountain jacket, built for hostile weather and environments, so the chances are it will be on and under your harness before the day starts, and not being used as a belay jacket, so a bottom zip puller is probably deemed less necessary and a point of failure, as well as the increased effort needed to line up zippers every time it's donned with gloves on in winter etc. These factors probably led Arcteryx to decide it would be more of an inconvenience than a positive for users. It's not a mega long jacket so shouldn't impede walking either for most people. If however you are a fan of the bottom zip puller then I would suggest looking at the Mountain Equipment Lhotse, made from Goretex Pro like the Beta and stacked with features, including that 2 way zip! Cheers, Tom
Great jacket and great review. I just purchased the new Beta AR Stormhood version and I love it.
Me too, I really like it because it’s easier for me to layer with hoodies and is good for skiing.
Is it me or the ARC’TERYX logo on the new beta ar like a greyish tone and not white like previous years? On the black jacket at least

What’s the point of wearing a Gore-Tex jacket while driving?

What color is this?
Packable?
I have a 2003 Beta AR and it looks nothing like what you're wearing.
Is it noisy?
I own the beta lt and it’s not loud at all. But, there is definitely a subtle noise when moving around.
