    Dear Bruno :
    I Certainty Hope you see this message from me.
    I have to say that i "tripped" over one of your Gliding Videos, and Literally Subscribed before the end of the video.
    Your Videos are created in such a way that i indeed feel like I'm perched on your right shoulder.... a Fantastic View Perspective.
    I'm not a Glider myself, I'm not even much of a flyer due to the darn turbulent moments a commercial airliner experiences every so often, I'm afraid to have to say.
    If i may, going with you on your video Glides is indeed So Mesmerizing & Peaceful!! Thank You for your ongoing Videos!! I Hope you will continue to do videos for us.
    If i may ask: are you able to enlighten us as to how much your sport of Gliding costs?? (Ie: Your Plane? [Which is Absolutely Perfect!]); Costs associated with Airports?? (The Tow Planes, or, some cases have a Winch type of launch system?). I have indeed heard your mention that it is Inexpensive.... I'm curious for you to elaborate sometime ???
    Your Instrument Gauge that you have to work with: there also seems to be an ongoing beeping sound that varies in length & pitches, which means what???
    The physics of Gliding: one would think that what goes up must come down, of course. But, in your case, what goes up.... continues to climb higher!! What do you have available to yourself to achieve Higher Heights?? (I'm thinking of Warm Air updrafts?; lowering plane for higher speed, then using the speed to climb higher?? Wind coming off mountain & hillsides, pushing you higher??). Ps: is your instrument gauge letting you know somehow that you are "within" such conditions so you can work with it??? (Maybe, that's the beeping sound we hear??).
    Thank You So Much for your Video's!!
    They are So Peaceful for ME Too, that i enjoy every single second of your videos!!
    Once again, i Certainly Hope you receive this message from me. I know it's rather long, but i touched on most points that i had questions about(?). I hope you can elaborate on some of those points, EVEN During Flight would be the Perfect Back Drop! (Disregarding the "drop" part!).
    I look SO FORWARD to hearing back from you in this (these?) regards!!
    Sincerely Yours, Robert !!!

    • @BrunoVassel
      @BrunoVassel  5 лет назад +54

      Hi Robert - thanks for watching!!! Wow, lots of really good questions. I'll do my best to answer. Sorry about the air sickness. I am sure if you didn't suffer from it you would LOVE soaring. My glider is worth right around $90k. My glider before this was $40k and the one before that was $10k. A brand new glider is right around $200k. A normal tow costs around $60 from which you can stay up all day and soar. A winch launch costs around $15. Hangar fees are around $150 per month. Insurance is around $2k per year. Annual inspection costs are around $180.
      The beeping noises are from the variometer and it tells me instantly if the glider is in rising air or sinking air. It might be a little annoying in the video but is SUPER helpful when flying so I don't have to be looking at my instruments but can be looking outside.
      My glider sinks at around 110 feet per minute. If I find any air that is rising faster than that, then I am climbing. If I find an area of lift that is going up at 600 fpm, then my actual climb will be 490 fmp after deducting my sink rate. I can find that lift by many sources: thermals, ridge lift, mountain wave, and convergence zones. Do some google searches on each of these to find out more about them.
      Hope this all helps you to enjoy some of my other videos more!
      Best, Bruno

      There's someone with a self-launch glider who flies out of an airport near the city here. There's no gliding club or towplane there.
      While it's possible to be self-sufficient that way, I'd not trade belonging to a glider club. You'll never find a more friendly bunch of folks, all helping and encouraging one another. I've gone out and flown for only an hour, but been there for 8, spending the rest of the time running wings, filling out the flight logs, retrieving landed gliders, etc, but mostly spending time with my club-mates. It's almost as fun as flying gliders (but let's not get crazy here ... only almost!)

    You make it look easy. i would love to know if on a typical day it's fairly easY to find lift and stay in the air? Or is a typical day quite challenging to stay up? THANKS FOR THE GREAT VIDS!! (((-:

    Incredible, I’m inspired. Did you fly all the way home from the Grand Canyon? I didn’t think sailplanes did distance as much as your a certain area.

      Thanks for watching. Yes - I made it all the way back home that flight. I flew over 600 miles that flight. Pretty amazing what gliders can do. Cheers.

      @@BrunoVassel AMAZING! How long did it take to get down? How long to get back? I love being in the air and having a view, but was really disappointed when I was working on my PPL in a Cessna with how little I could actually see (poor angle, dirty/scratched windows) and with how loud everything was. Gliding seems so much more serene, involved, almost meditative. Are there 2 seat gliders that I could purchase a ride along? I'm in Ogden and spend a lot of time in the Moab/Swell area on my motorcycle and flying drones. Flying in that region would be a dream.

    Wait, no circling with birds? My favorite experience was in a LS4b circling together with plenty of buzzards in their mating season. They did what they could to impress. Repeatedly pulling up until stalling and then diving with the wings folded to the body. On and on, like projectiles going up and down and still they were better at catching the thermal winds. It was magical.
    I so miss gliding (great videos but I wish I could monitor the instruments, though)

    Hey Bruno thanks for the video -I have never been gliding but live near an airfield in the UK -Lasham and am thinking of giving it a go -What keeps you flying Gliders?

      You need to get to fly a glider soon.

      Do it. Lasham is one of the most famous gliding clubs in the UK.
      You will meet some really interesting people, and really learn to fly, and fly safely.
      The season is just about to start and you may even be solo before the end of summer.

    Are these high plateaus landable? Magnificient landscape, but I always look for outlanding fields...?

    • @BrunoVassel
      @BrunoVassel  5 лет назад +2

      Not at all landable. Would be a crash landing at best. There are canyons that run down away from the plateaus that I can fly down to get to landable farmer fields if for some reason I can't find lift. I ALWAYS keep and outlanding field within glide. It just isn't worth risking it. Cheers, Bruno

    Take offs with gliders usually seem like they're very "violent" and everyone is just fighting with their stick to get airborne.
    How hard it is actually to take off with a glider?

  • @IrishManJT
    @IrishManJT 5 лет назад

    I have a question. You don’t have an artificial horizon by the looks of it so what do you do if you inadvertently fly into IMC conditions in your glider (like the rain clouds shown at the start of this video) ? Thanks in advance.

    • @BrunoVassel
      @BrunoVassel  5 лет назад +2

      I actually have an artificial horizon. It is in the upper left instrument on my panel. I can turn a knob and it is instant on. I have some videos where I show it working. It is up to you to watch some of them and find a clip of it in action. :)
