I'm very glad you don't talk in your videos it's so distracting the music is very good background music to focus on what your hands are doing and which direction, at first I didn't understand why you always start in the middle instead of going left to right but now I can see that by doing that you are securing the Center first to to lay the foundation and it really does make the whole thing come out a lot straighter and neat
I wish you would talk in your videos and say forward knot backward knot it would make it alot easier to follow, but regardless videos are still amazing

Yes it does. It’s a forward backward knot. It changes the order of the strings for the next row. If you did the knot differently the strings would be in a different order and not look like the pattern in the end.
Ryan Bonner just lined it up and secured it, but you can also cut 3 of each coulor double in lenghth and fold it and make a loop. Masha knots has a good video on that

I’d say around 15 cm but its up to you and how long you want your ties to be
