Hey guys! I just wanted to say that I wasn’t trying to compare Whitney and Mariah in anyway. Mariah was just on my mind for some reason, so I brought her up. I wasn’t trying to insult her or anything. She is incredible as well. I just think Whitney seems to be enjoying herself more than what I’ve seen of Mariah which is not much, might I add. I rambled about that for about three minutes and I thought it was way too long to leave in the video, so I cut most of it out. I realize now that some of you didn’t understand what I meant and I probably should’ve left the whole tangent in the video because I clarified more of what I meant in it. My apologies. Thanks for watching! 💜
*The reasons why you and many people like Whitney more are:* - Whitney's Gospel, Soul, Old School R&B and Opera background. - Whitney's 'out of this world' voice. - Whitney's ability to always sing straight from her heart & soul and make people feel that. - Whitney's sincerity, grace, charisma, agility, elegance and beauty in every sense of the word. - .... Whitney will always be the 1 who touches my heart & soul very deeply/the most.😍 Not only for the 'out of this world' great singer Whitney was, but just as much for her kind/sweet, generous, genuine, gracious and witty personality! This said, I must say I like Marah very much too and have seen many great performances in every sense of the word of her too.
I do really like Mariah too. I rambled on for a few minutes about that and decided to cut most of what I said out. Probably shouldn’t have, but I didn’t want the video to be too long.
Of course she could sing. She is part of the vocal trinity for a reason. The only issue she had was that she lost her voice in her later years because of her unhealthy lifestyle. If you want to experience her capabilities try her live performances of "Saving all my love for you " in Japan (1991) or at the Grammy Awards in 1986.
She is known as The Voice You should react to: Greatest Love of All(Arista Record 1990) Saving all my love for you(Japan-1990) One moment in time(Grammy's 1989) Star Spangled banner(Super Bowl 1991)-The best rendition and she is the only person to make the National Anthem to Billboard charts twice and sold 15 million records with the anthem!! If you dont know about her She's the best female vocalist ever sometimes people call her the original Mariah Carey,She had one of the best techniques and she's part of The Vocal Trinity(Celine Dion,Mariah Carey,Whitney Houston) Her wide range spans 4 octave(A2-A6)She is also known as The Queen of Headvoice because her headvoice is so operatic and people refer her as the best head voice in non-operatic or classical Music, nice video btw Im a new subscriber:33
I've never put that together when it comes to Mariah but you are 100% correct!! 🤦🏽♀️ I feel dumb and almost mad I never considered that to be exactly why I haven't ever really connected with her. Just very little emotion!! Whitney on the other hand....🤯❤🙌🏽🙌🏽😭😭 goosebumps and tears everytime!! . I will say one of my FAVORITE songs is actually a duet with the 2 of them called "When You Believe" from Disney's Prince of Egypt soundtrack. The official video or their Oprah performance, you can't go wrong. Check it out you will not be disappointed ❤
I can understand your opinion on Whitney's versus Mariah's emotion when singing. Whitney does have a voice that goes through your body and soul. But to be fear you haven't seen a full Mariah performance. Mariah's 2006 We Belong Together/ Fly Like A Bird performance is full of emotion. Her 1992 Grammy performance is technical but emotional as well among others. But yeah Mariah is more of a technical singer than Whitney. Whitney was trained by her mother in the church and Whitney's singing style is representative of that where as Mariah was influenced by gospel but she wasnt brought up in the church. Her mother was an opera singer and Mariah was heavily influenced nabs inspired by gospel but not trained in church. Mariah is also heavily influenced by hip hop, r&b, and Jazz. So Mariah's style is different from Whitney's. Whitney's singing is very powerhouse church influenced where as Mariahs style is a mixtured of gospel as well as other genres.
“Mariah is more of a technical singer than Whitney.” It’s either delusion or ignorance you’re suffering from. I think it may be the latter (hopefully).
@@guhsuckyamudda586 How am I wrong instead of throwing insults explain to me how im wrong? You might be right but please expound. I said that Mariah has plenty of emotional songs. Close My Eyes, Petals, Fly Like A Bird, My Saving Grace, I dont Wanna Cry, Make It Happen, If its Over, Looking In, etc. I'm not saying she isn't emotional. I told Heather that she should listen to a full Mariah song before she came to that conclusion. But Mariah is more of a technical singer. She does her own backgrounds, she composes her songs, she writes her melodies, she is very detailed with her execution like a technician.
@@guhsuckyamudda586 For example the fact that Mariah recorded Honey over 100 times to get it right is the very definition of technical. Whitney would never sing a song in the studio a hundred times. Whitney was known for recording her songs in one take. But Mariah being a complete musician, and this is no shade to Whitney I love her but Mariah is a different artist, Mariah is a composer she a involved in the entire process of making a song from beginning to end, like an engineer.
@@tlobrown5381 Mariah’s proclivity to endlessly record takes is a byproduct of her perfectionism, not of her being more “technical.” Once again, you’re speaking from ignorance. Whitney’s technical prowess, as a singer, is *far* superior to Mariah’s.
@@guhsuckyamudda586 I would agree that Whitney is a stronger vocalist than Mariah but how is Mariah not technical? That's like saying Beyonce or Brandy aren't technical. Maybe you're right I might be ignorant but explain to me how. I'm genuinely asking.
Whitney had pretty good range too..A2-A5-A6 which is 4 octaves Mariah's range is F2-A5-Bb7(F#8)5.3 octaves but if you consider F#8 its 6 octaves and 1 semitone.
What’s really funny about your comment comparing Whitney’s singing to Mariah’s is that Whitney never really wrote any of her songs, let alone produced them and arranged them. Mariah is a complete artist, she writes ridiculous melodies and beautiful lyrics. Shes in the songwriter’s hall of fame if I’m not mistaken. Mariah lives in the studio since always by all accounts. She spends a lot of time making sure her music is exactly how she wants it. She produces most of her own music as well, all that takes a lot of heart and dedication. Not taking anything away from Whitney as she was an incredible vocalist and a hell of a performer. Mariah has always suffered from stage anxiety, so that may be part of it too. Iike you says it’s hard to judge based on pieces of performances but Mariah lives the music, always has and there’s no doubt about that.
She lost her voice due to drugs later in the 2010’s. She loved singing so much she keep singing with the damage. She loved people and Jesus. She had her struggles.
That is a awful compliation with even worse sound quality. Please just watch a full Whitney performance to get a real sense of her voice and ability. Her performance of Porgy/And I Am Telling You/I Have Nothing is the one I'd recommend to get a real sense of Whitney musicality
Whitney was raised in the church and sang in the church and that brings another emotional aspect to singing. I don’t think Mariah was and I agree with you. watch. Whitney, Singing I’m Every Woman official video… She is pregnant in that video and it contains other women Singers
