Pueblo Buffalo Dance at Second Mesa

- This is from a recording I think back in 2015. The buffalo dances take place at the end of winter (February) and are meant to symbolize the melting snow and the moister being packed into the ground. Which is why the girls are wearing the symbol of the Sun on their backs. This is in preparation for the arrival of spring and many drums are used for these dances to wake nature. This version of the buffalo dance is taken from our sister pueblo tribes in New Mexico.

Kwakwaii. I just got back a week and a half ago from staying with my Qua'a in Polacca and I'm already homesick. Thanks for the upload still helps me keep in touch with part of who I am and where I come from. Already waiting for the next two months to go by fast so that I can go back out for night dances. I appreciate your thoughtfulness in sharing this. For me, living on the East Coast, it’s something I would otherwise not be able to experience. I can understand not wanting more sacred things shared, but I do hope you can share to them that many of us appreciate the pieces of Native American culture that those from within that community choose to share.
Some in my tribal community are divided on the idea of uploading ceremonial recordings of social dances. Although these aren't our highly sacred Katsina dances, they do serve an important meaning. (read description)

I want to thank you for letting me see things like this I love all the things that Indian stuff and music and the regalia has to show I love watching all kinds of cultures especially American Indians
These ceremonies are meant for everyone and the prayers that are included in the songs aren't just for our community alone. They are blessings to everything that is living.

And yet Hopi artists sell our cultural artifacts to make A living. 90% of Rez Hopis sell their dolls, Tutsayas, and yungyapus to pahanas. Our own vice chairman sells his songs on albums that can be bought on google play and iTunes. We cannot go back to the past. We have electricity in our kivas, villages, and not even our yusi is authentic anymore for tiikiveh. Why do we broadcast Hopilavayi over the radio where ANYONE in the world can live stream online? If you don't like it, why are you watching it and clicking the links??
