I personally don't find the Chinese supermarket cheaper, however they have diversity of product, it's almost like a mini mall where you can get from tools to seasoning and not to mention their opening hours are mostly extended as well as they open every single day regardless of holidays. They are also closely knitted community that works together to succeed. We Guyanese like to infight each other when it comes to business and the Chinese sees that as an opportunity to capitalize. Another thing I've learnt recently is that I know of a person with an empty land that can't afford to build so he's inviting some Chinese to build his house and use the downstairs as a supermarket and he lives upstairs. Obviously, he gets a free house while the Chinese use the place as long as the cost of constructions allows them. So that's why you see new Chinese supermarket popping in new low and middle income communities.

Couple of questions that we should asking in Guyana and as Guyanese are ( 1 ) Are Chinese businesses taking all the profit that they made in Guyana from Guyanese back to China or are they reinvesting some of that profit/money back with Guyanese people. ( 2 ) Are Chinese businesses bringing and selling to the Guyanese people inferior and low quality items and products that Guyanese are forced to buy with their hard earned wages, salaries and earnings. Here in Jamaica its the same phenomenon occurring. The root of this lies in our government policies or lack there of...China has been weaving its way across the globe giving out cheap loans to countries like Jamaica hence compromising governments in ways such as immigration policies towards their nationals, tax issues and the like causing ordinary Jamaicans to feel marginalized in many ways because of its lax business policies toward the Chinese merchants. Interestingly unlike Guyana they almost always set up "Shop" in the low income areas and rural areas in Jamaica, I don't think I have ever seen one in an affluent area here.
I live in south. And since i left guyana and came back i notice 5 Chineses supermarket on the main road. Plus our local supermarket Andrews and Jonny p. And i was thinking that is it a situation where it is difficult for our people to get into this market because of the high capital investment? I always thought to myself that we seem to like being at the same level...we are contented with the minimum get by. A shop in the neighbourhood at the same level for 10, 20 years + and no indication of moving to the next stage. I cant blame the Chinese...for me its great having the options at my fingertips. One thing i would not is that when im shoping for groceries i go to Andrews supermarket, not because its guyanese owned but because the offering are more inline with what i prefer and theirs more variety. These chinese supermarket i find cram everything under the sun and for this reason i find that the ofering are limited. I do buy from the Chinese when im in a hurry simply because i have 2 of them a street away on both sides of my house. Build a supermarket of considerable size that have variety and everyone will come, because its more likely you have what i want. The last thing i need to see is nails after the freezer sections isle.
Fair points here. Capital investment is definitely a deterrent for Guyanese. Location, convenience and variety are three huge reasons why they're successful.

This a truly a factual piece. But as you say the analysis can be deeper. The Chinese modus operandi has been to approach the local bottom house shops, offer a very decent rent and simply take over the shop. This has been done throughout the country and has been rampant on the west coast of Demerara. The rent offered is way more than those shops would make. For a roadside property, the Chinese will pay 500k-1,000,000 for a modest bottom house. Extend and renovate it and then operate. Hence a contributing reason to the decline of local village shops. I think it’s simply capitalism at its best. Can’t really blame the locals for renting as many of them don’t have the means of upscaling. Anyway, apparently there is more to it including the issue of escaping taxes.

The Chinese from time gone by have always controlled the "Salt goods" and groceries in Guyana. Also, the reason why they could sell cheapest is because as a clandestine people, the Chinese Association imports wholesale and then distribute to their peeps. Other salt goods shops had to buy from Weiting and Richter, J.P Santos and a few others. So, nothing new that the Chinese control the market share. As far as them operating in the low income neighborhoods, please go to New York and see who own the restaurants, liquor stores in the low income neighborhoods.
Is the govt giving duty free to Chinese that’s why it’s cheaper. It’s only cheaper at the start and eventually the price becomes the same. I heard they get 40 containers duty free initially.
You’re on to something that the average Guyanese is unaware of. It was partly EXPOSED under the Granger administration, however, the opposition at the time, accused APNU-AFC as being racists. As being discriminatory against the Chinese. Like the Chinese grocers, supermarkets, and other businesses, the only ones who are NOT benefiting from the largesse are the Afro-Guyanese. Soon you’ll wake up and recognize that you’re second class citizens in your own country. Open your THIRD EYE and you’ll understand all as clear as possible!
Ages old system in play, from the 1960's. The Chinese 'employees' are actually in Guyana to become 'naturalised Guyanese' and utilise a portion of Guyana's "US visa allotments". If one keeps tabs it will be seen that the 'management staff' stay in place~3 years then there's a wholesale change. All sponsored by the 'Association'!😅
Customs playing a big part of that all of the products are imported it can’t be that profitable if they pay their full duty so that’s where the loophole is in all business in Guyana
Understood, honestly all my shopping i do I make sure I find a Guyanese supermarket or shops etc . I would normally say a black or a Indian shop.lol and I would tell people support your own Guyanese.
Who cares!!! These supermarkets are creating value by giving more options to consumers. Let the people vote with their dollar and decide to shop at the place that meets their individual needs the most.
Lets face the fact, chinese supermarkets are reliable. For eg, local supermarkets dont open on sundays, nor holidays and i totally understand that employees needs rest. But when we have needs on Sundays and holidays the chinese are available
It a free market for everyone who can survive people always fine something to complain about and they still shopping there ok is the food product of Guyana ??? Watch what you eat
It's not just the numerous Chinese supermarkets alone..there are other factors...such as poor customer service by local shops, poor pricing, limited variety of products and also the Chinese dont do credit to the small man
U go to any Chinese supermarket and you buy what ever you want and when you get your bills there is no vat showing. But when you go to the local supermarket and buy you always get your bills showing vat charge. This is the GRA fault.
Are these Chinese importers getting off the hook on import duties thus enabling them to undersell the people who are in compliment with tax and import regulations?
lol. They have the money and investors. Be prepared when you enter their stores to be followed and cameras everywhere in their stores. They are very smart and innovative people. This is what they do here in the U.S. The tactic is they have large some sums of money 💰 to invest and open businesses.
Its all over where there is a government who panda chins china foot there bill it is called negotiations governments to government remember you the individual can't compete its so much to go up against😢put laws in so they cannot be broken even playing fields

They right
cool
I agree with the last 30 seconds of your video
It's a sad situation.
I love ur program u call a spade a spade u don't take side u say it as u see it u for the next president of guyana
Thanks for the support!
The government is to be blame. Does the Chinese pay tax on these goods?
Good question.
The politicians of Guyana
Yes. Thanks for watching,
Keep up your good work??
We will!
The are newly Chinese invaders being subsidized by the Chinese government to open all supermarkets ..how can the local businesses compete against the Chinese government is that fair ..ask Ali ask Norton..
The local businesses will have to figure out how to compete.
The chinese support local businesses they buy stuff from Guyanese wholesale dealers
Nothing contrary was stated in the video.
Well said : Chinese don't build another countries economy ..
Thanks for watching.
Chinese are all over the world, they are hard working, peaceful, knows how to run a business...Decent, law-abiding, hardworking people are welcomed.
No they aren't they're exploitative. They underpay and don't pay NIS and taxes.
Thanks for sharing your cheerleading thoughts.
@@BottomHouseTV i am unable to communicate in your Ebonics 😅

The Chinese from time gone by have always controlled the "Salt goods" and groceries in Guyana. Also, the reason why they could sell cheapest is because as a clandestine people, the Chinese Association imports wholesale and then distribute to their peeps. Other salt goods shops had to buy from Weiting and Richter, J.P Santos and a few others. So, nothing new that the Chinese control the market share. As far as them operating in the low income neighborhoods, please go to New York and see who own the restaurants, liquor stores in the low income neighborhoods.
ok
Is the govt giving duty free to Chinese that’s why it’s cheaper. It’s only cheaper at the start and eventually the price becomes the same. I heard they get 40 containers duty free initially.
Interesting...
@@Delitewon. The ethnic group that is in the majority are mentally underdeveloped ,and cannot see the hand writing on the walls.

So many people say...
We've heard of the plastic rice, what about the dog meat etc
now would you do a piece on the people wh0 are robing chinese supermarket's?
Sounds like you should do one since you're so passionate about it. You might get some plaudits from them.
@@BottomHouseTV I don't need plaudits from no one, but it was a suggestion

Ages old system in play, from the 1960's. The Chinese 'employees' are actually in Guyana to become 'naturalised Guyanese' and utilise a portion of Guyana's "US visa allotments". If one keeps tabs it will be seen that the 'management staff' stay in place~3 years then there's a wholesale change. All sponsored by the 'Association'!😅
The take home on grocery from a chinese supermarket can never be from a guyana supermarket
Thanks for watching
Are you against development?
eddyramnauth. You are one of the mentally underdeveloped ones I am speaking about.
😂
Customs playing a big part of that all of the products are imported it can’t be that profitable if they pay their full duty so that’s where the loophole is in all business in Guyana
Fair points. Thanks for watching.
you should live in europe then you will see chinese goods are cheaper, so do they also have loopholes?
Guyanese need to to be patriotic. But from Guyanese Supermarket.
Thanks for watching. Patriotism is important and necessary.
Buy
You are right bro
Thanks for watching!
I just hate how they are taking over .
Feelings won't do much to address anything, unfortunately.
Understood, honestly all my shopping i do I make sure I find a Guyanese supermarket or shops etc . I would normally say a black or a Indian shop.lol and I would tell people support your own Guyanese.
Who cares!!! These supermarkets are creating value by giving more options to consumers. Let the people vote with their dollar and decide to shop at the place that meets their individual needs the most.
ok 👍
❤so true
Thanks for watching.
Lets face the fact, chinese supermarkets are reliable. For eg, local supermarkets dont open on sundays, nor holidays and i totally understand that employees needs rest. But when we have needs on Sundays and holidays the chinese are available
Fair points. They're filling gaps.
if there are no laws broken , what is the problem ? If there is a problem make a new law then.
If you watch the series, there are several laws being broken.
It a free market for everyone who can survive people always fine something to complain about and they still shopping there ok is the food product of Guyana ??? Watch what you eat
Ok
It's not just the numerous Chinese supermarkets alone..there are other factors...such as poor customer service by local shops, poor pricing, limited variety of products and also the Chinese dont do credit to the small man
Agreed. There are numerous factors that can be explored later in the series.
U go to any Chinese supermarket and you buy what ever you want and when you get your bills there is no vat showing. But when you go to the local supermarket and buy you always get your bills showing vat charge. This is the GRA fault.
If so, that's their responsibility to fix.
Are these Chinese importers getting off the hook on import duties thus enabling them to undersell the people who are in compliment with tax and import regulations?
Good questions. Thanks for watching.
second that, the government and Guyanese at fault here
Guyanese are making their bed. They should be ready to comfortably lie in it.
The chinese r robbing u,with multiple items bought they give u a value that ís above the items you have. Ask for a bill.
always ask for one
lol. They have the money and investors. Be prepared when you enter their stores to be followed and cameras everywhere in their stores. They are very smart and innovative people. This is what they do here in the U.S. The tactic is they have large some sums of money 💰 to invest and open businesses.
As explained in the video, this is business, they will do what they need to dominate.
Much more healthy and affordable.
ok
When in doubt, just learn mandarin
Sounds like a plan!
I think we are better off with the numerous Chinese supermarkets. Chinese have an intrinsic right just like every other Guyanese.!
Understood, *if they are Guyanese.
There are far more than the list shows.
That is what many people suspect.
The PPP giving away guyana .soon we will get kickout of our country .aslong you invite one chine they will bring a million
😅
Guyanese are complicit. Thanks for watching.
what rubbish, so you rather Norton and we have a million Haitians? Chinese bring business, Haitians only bring unskilled labour.,
Guyananess needs to start opening up the eone business and don't let the Chinese take over the need to wake up
Too late.
Opening a shop is almost 24/7 job, not everyone want to do this kind of work.
Linden have 16
Thanks for sharing.
You can sell Guyanese garbage.
Many people would agree.
I lpve my Guyanese supermarket s ,ya ya!!!

Most of the chinee's supermarkets one can get everything that you are searching for. From salt to spanner .....mm

well that is capitalism, the Chinese merchants are going all over the World selling their cheap commodities, hopefully they do not put too many small businesses out of business
It's capitalism, that's exactly what I said. However, the market isn't a "free market."
Why did silly Business video ? Why can Guyanese n you open sjpermarkets
Cut and come back with better grammar
@@BottomHouseTV what you want me to tell you ?your video is.tasteless, you should take.out a video around stabroek market, with it,s.disorder n the robbery that goes around there
Why make a mountain out of a molehill? Rather than complaining, use your channel to encourage your ppl to open supermarkets next to theirs? Increase the competition. And then see who will survive? The Chinese has got survival down to a science, man! Also, most Chinese are self employed. You should do a head count of how many of them are employed in the public sector other than your ppl. Good luck.
Reread the definition of "complain." Rather than using your comment to be obtuse, you can go be a cheerleader elsewhere. The pied piper needs some more band members.
