How well does someone actually understand Kingdom Hearts lore?
In this video I quiz my boyfriend on the story of Kingdom Hearts to see if he can survive the ultimate lore test. From Keyblades to Heartless to confusing timelines, we put his knowledge to the test.
If you're a Kingdom Hearts fan, let us know how he did - and whether you could explain the Kingdom Hearts story better!

Kingdom Hearts fans - did he actually do okay here?
Or did he completely fail the lore test? 😅

Did we make Nomura proud or ashamed? Let us know... or don't im scared... but please do.. --Sam
Whether he is or not, I am proud of you (for however much that is worth... probably not much lol)
I’m proud of you (but your boyfriend is kinda painful to watch when it came to some of those answers 😅)
nomura has said that he watches fan content so maybe he's here lmao
She doesn't give Sora the seashell wayfinder the night they left, but later in traverse town; she shows sora she's making them for the trio on that night
I also came into the comments to say that. Thank you.
I was gonna say that. Thank you!
Couple corrections:
1. They don't get sucked into the door, they get pushed out of the door back out of the cave.
2. Kairi doesn't give sora the seashell paupu charm until after you rescue her.
Auto correct changing her name to kristi is so funny
@PeruvianWalloh shit whoops lol
And Sora to sure
@pedrogarcia8706 my brain didnt even notice that one lol
Another slight and pedantic correction: Riku's Dark Mode suit doesn't have the exact Heartless emblem as it lacks the thorny X across the front, which is a slight difference but represents that his heart isn't fully consumed by Ansem and the Darkness, even if his body is getting there
Dont forget that Mickey didnt wear a shirt, its the most important plot point!
And they kept that continuity in birth by sleep 0.2.
I love the fact that Mickey being shirtless is an important plot point that gets explained and brought back in one of the most recent entries, before KH3
This moment was peak KH. Nomura really cooked with this one.
Technically, Leon wielded the key blade too albeit very briefly, lol
Definitely shouldn't get the point for the charm. She didn't give him a paopu fruit. The only thing she gave him that night, technically, was her heart. Before Destiny Islands fell to darkness, she was making him a charm made from thalassa shells in the shape of a paopu fruit. She finally gives that charm to him in Traverse Town where it becomes the keychain for the Oathkeeper keyblade.
"What is Kingdom Hearts?"
How much time do you have?
Honestly I would have stopped at "it's a heart shaped moon" because that's all I remember Kingdom Hearts being important for despite knowing it's ties with the xblade and the huge lore drops in Union cross It kinda gets drowned with all the future stuff that happens lol
ah yes, a classic case of making a quiz for your loved one who is getting into something you love 😆
An inevitable part of every relationship lol
I wish
Doesn’t Kairi give Sora her good luck charm in Traverse Town after they’ve rescued her from Hollow Bastion?
Correct
@ryapowa 100% I realized after she just shows it to him on Destiny and then gives it to him in Traverse.... Shame on me!!
And she says be sure to bring it back to me
Kind of a trick question on why Kairis heart went to Sora because aqua put a charm on her necklace so that if she was ever in danger, she would go or her heart in this case will go to someone who would protect her and that was sora otherwise ansem would’ve gotten her heart that day, but aquas charm protected her
Crazy to not remember the literal BEST SCENE in all of KH1.
"What's... What's happening to me? Falling...falling...into darkness..."
Jokes aside, cute ass video. Keeper for sure.
Love the calming vibes of the video. Very solid questions. I hope he enjoys witnessing Riku meeting his fate in KH2
The number of times he says poopoo fruit makes me sad😅
My bad 🤣
-Casey
6:00 Kairi Shows Sora her Lucky Sharm and explain what is it (the lucky Sharm also has 4 shell at that moment).
When you release her heart, she bring back Sora and both talk to each in Traverse Town, in that moment Kairi Give her Lucky Sharm, not in Destiny Island
Sora did say that kingdom hearts is light so you should give him that one
THANK YOU 😁
-Casey
"And for a final bonus point, what is the name of the next Kingdom Hearts game?" 🤔
"Aw that's easy, Kingdom Hearts 2." 😏
"..." 🙂
"Isn't it?" 🤨
"..." 🤫
"..." 😧
"did you like it?"
" i liked parts"
Master level, matrix-style bullet dodging
This reminds me of when I had my wife play KH
Very cute quiz, totally valid shutting it down and asking him to play through it again when he missed the stabs self to free kairi question
6:16 I guess you could say she gives him a memory, but a memory that can't be forgotten? Namine would have something to say about that.
When you're explaining how Sora becomes a Heartless, you made a mistake. It isn't that the Keyblade of Heart is the only thing that can unlock Hearts, it's that Sora doesn't THINK any other Keyblade can unlock Hearts. It isn't until KH2 that Sora finds out through being told that any Keyblade can unlock Hearts.
I think the paopu fruit is based off of starfruit because it looks like a star!
I cant wait for him to find out how important is shirtless mickey 😭
Fun Fact: The Kingdom Hearts we see in KH1 isn't the true Kingdom Hearts but is one form of it
We don't see the real Kingdom Hearts until BBS
@AlexxxMYLSince2013 the True Kingdom Hearts you could say, the heart of all worlds is still technically a version of kingdom hearts
@ryapowa Actually what is Kingdom Hearts again ?
@xemnasxiii3992 Kingdom Hearts is the source of all light. In KH1, the Kingdom Hearts we see is the heart of all worlds. In KH2, we see the heart of all hearts. The true Kingdom Hearts is essentially the heart of all that is, where all hearts are born
9:10 it's time to du du du du duel!
He doesn't remember the iconic scene where Sora stabs himself with the keyblade????
First he should play the game again, second you should teach him better.
But his thoughts and predictions are on point probs to that.
Oh and may your heart be your guiding key.
When a world is falling to darkness space gets unstable and corridors of darkness spawn in said worlds. Some people get lucky and get into said corridors transporting them to another world, mainly Traverse Town. That's how Sora survived and got there. It's explained in the later Ansem reports in KH2 and other places as well if I recall correctly, it had nothing to do with being uncorroptably, or being powerfull. Tho some people are able to create corridors of darkness and similar paths to other worlds either with control over said elements or due to putting all their heart into It such as Beast getting into Hollow Bastion because he wanted to rescue Belle without actually having control over darkness
I need this kind of quiz for every game now!
We're on it! 🫡
This was awesome !! 😆 LOL @ the shirtless Mickey comment
In this house we bow to shirtless Mickey only. --Sam
"He Receives Some Sort Of Energy Blast" Made Me Giggle Lol. Great Video, Stay Blessed, & May Your Heart Be Your Guiding Key!!! :D
So glad you liked it! This made my day 🙂
-Casey
~12:30 guess that makes me...a nobody (badum tiss)
Thank you for proving me wrong! 🤣
-Casey
Why is it important that mickey was shirtless?? Is the mickey seen the mickey’s nobody?
This was fun and charming
THANK YOU!!! 😁
Bonus: Kairi also gifts sora her heart before they leave destiny island too. That happens when she gets blasted by the door to darkness
Well Kairi doesn't give Sora her lucky charm at Destiny Islands
I see it more as renting
I give him a B- for it being his first time playing the game. He's not even introduced to 95% of the story that unfolds later. He probably didn't read the Ansem Reports, which he absolutely should not because they spoil so many of the upcoming events. I think he should beat KH3, then start reading the Ansem Reports to figure out things he doesn't understand yet if he can.
And once he learns about the next batch of enemies, it should be important that he's told they weren't even a concept before KH became a major hit. It was only ever meant to be one game but made them so much money it was expanded upon by Square's worst writer. He was a character design guy for a reason. He can't handle extremely complex stories without expanding them into more than one game.
Ansem Reports 11, 12 and 13 should be especially avoided because they were not in the original KH game. I've played KH probably around 20 times since it came out. It's an absolute banger of a videogame. Eight of those times came from the year the 1.5 and 2.5 versions were released on Xbox. I wonder how he would have felt about the game if he had to use R1 and L1 to change the camera's view.
A Nomura hating KH fan. A surprisingly common archetype. Also, it's not a spoiler if it's the point in the series wherein the information is meant to be revealed.
@explosion9815 The point of the series when Kingdom Hearts was released was to be a one-off game. Not some kind of multi-headed behemoth. So no, you are factually wrong. The simple fact that newer Ansem Reports were added to Kingdom Hearts, Reports 11-13, spoils too much.
@sentientwaffle6696 I'm actually factually correct. The point at which this information was meant to be revealed is KHFM, making it not a spoiler but actually the intended place for the information to be learned. Also the game's director (the aforementioned Tetsuya Nomura) wanted to make a sequel before the first game was even out, so saying 'the point of the series when Kingdom Hears was released was to be a one-off game' is literally wrong. They just needed good sales before they could get the go-ahead.
Bro does not remember one second of that game
Are y'all only playing the mainline games? Will this adventure be streamed?
Stay tuned for a Chain of Memories vid & YES, we plan to stream KH2. Link in description! :)
-Casey
I wish my gay self had a boyfriend to where i can do things like this with 😭😭😭
But let’s do this for every game lol
More coming asap!
Are you playing through game release order then? or semi-chronological order?
Good question! What would you recommend? 🤔
-Casey
@couchyquest It definitely depends what method of story-telling you like! If you just want to know the information with less suspense and more straightforward then do Semi-chronological order.
But if you want all the suspense and some mild confusion, then I'd recommend release order!
Release:
1. KH1
2. KH: Re:Chain of Memories (Or just watching the cutscenes)
3. KH2
4. KH 358/2 Days film
5. KH: Birth By Sleep
6. KH: Re:coded
7. KH: Dream Drop Distance
7.5. KH χ Back Cover
8. KH: 0.2 BBS Fragmentary passage
9. KH 3 + Remind DLC
Semi-Chronological:
1. KH1
2. KH χ Back Cover
3. KH: Birth By Sleep
4. KH: 0.2 BBS Fragmentary passage
5. KH: Re:Chain of Memories (Or just watching the cutscenes)
6. KH 358/2 Days film
7. KH2
8. KH: Re:coded
9. KH: Dream Drop Distance
10. KH3 + Remind DLC
My personal recommendation is release order, but a big part of it depends on what your goal for the experience is. Do you just want to convey the fundamental KH story beats, or do you want to give the experience of being a KH fan as the games came out? Either way, I think an absolute necessity when engaging with KH is sincerity. Allow yourself to genuinely care about these kids who are caught up in something bigger than them. Put yourself in their shoes, think about what they’re feeling and what their lives have been like. Emotion and vibes are legitimately the core of the series, and trying to rigidly dissect and codify the plot and the “lore” rather than enjoying the story is a mistake a lot of people make when trying to get into the series. A heart is so much more than any system.
No offense but not remembering names of things I get but if you cant remember key moments that are CRUCIAL plot details you're not paying attention
I dont think you were qualified to make this quiz sadly
Fake fan 😂
