For this new video, relive the journey between Lyon Part-Dieu and Marseille in the place of a TGV driver !
Shortly after our departure from the Capital of the Gauls, we will take part of the classic Lyon-Grenoble line before taking the Rhône-Alpes and Mediterranean high-speed lines. After exiting the long underground tunnel that precedes the end of the high-speed line, we will drive along the Mediterranean for a few moments on the classic line before arriving in the heart of the Phocaean city.
The discovery of this line with its many engineering structures and high profile will be in the TGV Tri-Current Network (45**), indeed these trains dating from the early 90s have largely begun the second part of their career, but still have a bright future ahead of them, as they remain the only TGV SNCF trains to be able to run on the Belgian network.
Good video 🙂 Please do not hesitate to subscribe, comment or like the video to support the channel and be informed of the next uploads.

The most relaxing 1 hour and 40 minutes of my life.
it‘s just a great feeling to be in a TGV while you ride with 300km/h, i absolutelly love the french highspeedtrains

I always thought TGV lines were absolutely flat and straight : this is like a 300km/h rollercoaster.
In fact TGV can take steeper ramp thanks to their higher speed

Dommage😞😞😞 😞
Please do not tell me this would be possible with just a steam locomotive at hand.
There are a few moments in this 'video' that this "TGV", whatever this means, seems to be going at three times the galloping speed, so much so that I couldn't resist supporting the screen of my laptop to prevent it from folding up. Way to late...but the french trains are one of the uniquest ones on the entire network. They are the country which influenced many countries to build just like them and how the signalling has improved. Maybe the TVM300 and TVM430 are outdated but they are the uniquest signalling systems in the world and I am going to be very upset if they go away. This 320KM journey is endless.

What a beautiful ride. I have this route for Train Simulator.
Quality video 👌
Incredibly loud those trains, I regret those people who have to live near the track
The old TGV models are pretty noisy in the cab, some drivers say they are used to it. My experience is that the old models are not too noisy compared to the new ones (when it comes to passing people's houses).

Ouigo TGV waiting to follow us over the junction at 15:35. That looks quite some gradient down off that flyover.
can't help notice that the train appears to go through several abandoned stations on the slow sections in both ends of the trip, like at 1:36:01 and 1:37:03, along with a few at the beginning of the video. I'm not super familiar with the French train system, but at least to me those look like old station platforms
obrigado, muito bom o vídeo
To have a true vision of how fast that train can really go, set parameters on x2 speed.
600 km/hour that is how fast TGV can go, on testing mode
Its record was 575 km/hour to be truly precise, in 2007.

Can i use this video?
Did you edit the stops? They seem very short for long distance travel. Do folks have to rush in with all their luggage?
Yes, they are edited. You can see it in the clouds how they disappear or jump.
Here is something I noticed about Europe (and France in particular) - the railway signaling system is DIRECTLY derived from ROAD signaling - which is not the same anywhere else. (Not kidding - if you didn't see rail and ties under the train, you would likely think you were on a freeway or expressway - not a railroad. Also - the ONLY way you can tell the TGV from standard rail is the signage (other than the trains themselves) - have they ever ran TGV trains on standard rails? It strikes me as odd/odd/odd.)
tgv trains run on standard rails regularly.

@@crazyskully206 Yep, French trains are the worse, you never know if it will arrive, what will be the delay, or maybe it will not arrive at all. The people at the station are incompetent, I asked what time will be the last train from Nice to Antibes, they told me half past midnight, there was no train, so - hotel. I took TGV once, from Paris to Nice, after we arrived to Marseille, the locomotive broke down, and we were stranded in some fields for an hour or so.
@@no_more_free_nicks haha you didn't have chance but now After living 1 month in bulgaria and take their trains i'm finally happy with SNCF until the Bad organisation 😂 what i make in 2 hours by train in France take 8 jours here lol
Very interesting and informative video. The viewer gets a good impression of the different ranges of speed, curve radii, switch radii etc. Particularly, after passing the mill 14:35, the transition from conventional track (160 km/h top speed) to high speed track (300 km/h top speed) at 14:55, at the intersection of the Lyon Part Dieu - Grenoble line to the LGV Rhones - Alpes (coming from Lyon St. Exupery airport and leading to the South, direction Marseille) with its bridges and curved ramps is very informative for a model railroader (at 15:30, you can see two TGV Ouigo standing on the left side of the LGV high speed line as if they would wait for our train to pass by, which looks strange).
Also, the Triangle des Angles 59:40 and the double viaduct 1:00:25 shortly before Avignon TGV are spectacular, as well as the view to the motorways A 7 (Autoroute du Soleil) near Montelimar 47:45 , 49:15 and of the A 9 (Autoroute la Languedocienne) shortly after its Orange bifurcation (view from the train to the left 56:40, you see the suspension bridge (viaduc de Roquemaure) and A 9 bridge crossing the Rhone), then the rocky tunnel 57:10, then crossing the A 9 again 57:50, which leads to Nimes.
What’s it like driving a 300KPH train then having to drive home in a car that can only do 60?
Takes more than five times longer! Far more, given that you‘d expect to stop somewhere for a bite to eat and a welcome pause, whereas inter train you could do this in the resto’ without stopping.
Better for you to try competing against the London Bridge - Brighton run....You might even win!
@@dennisroyhall121 It's a bringdown. I've taken commuter rail between Washington DC and Baltimore (Union Station in Washington, DC and Penn Station in Baltimore, which is also the foot of the NEC. Even commuter rail is faster than driving the distance - let alone the route. Not 60 fps, but very interesting views of French railways IRL. Mersi!
Respect to the French for building the TGV, it is a great accomplishment and the second of its kind in the world at the time of its inauguration (after the Japanese Shinkansen). It's a shame there are few such trains in the eastern parts of the EU where I live. Why can't the EU build an LGV from Paris to Bucharest, all the way from West to East, like they have in China? Such a line would make my life a lot easier and help me to avoid crowded airports and planes.
sorry ... first was ETR (elettro treno rapido) in 1936 On 6 December 1937 the ETR 200 reached a top speed of 201 km/h (125 mph) on the Rome-Naples line (between the stations of Campoleone and Nettunia). At that time all the world came to Italy to see the world first high speed railway lines.
On 20 July 1939, the ETR 212, driven by driver Alessandro Cervellati, established a new world record running (on the average speed for the whole run) between Florence and Milan at 165 km/h (103 mph), and also improving the absolute top speed record up to 203 km/h (126 mph) in the stretch from Pontenure to Piacenza. A popular myth held that Benito Mussolini himself was at the controls, but this doesn't hold to historical evidence.
And this line was not so easy and flat like the TGV in France, the line was more difficult as there was Appennines crossing
@@MrThebuke We don’t count anything under 250 km/h. Also we’re talking about grade separated high speed rail. I doubt an Italian train from the 30s had its own pair of tracks.

I am equally impressed with the German ICE trains, very smooth and quiet! I have been on one that was running a bit late, and at times doing 320 kph!
Unfortunately, this ICE (Siemens Velaro) can only run this 320 km/h in France and Spain, since in Germany there there are too few high speed lines and none above 300 km/h (and the 300 ones are rare enough).
TGV is better

A great video and love the text commentary.
I love French railways, the technical superiority, innovation and diversity of them, far superior to the UK
I really like the legacy DC network for some reason.
What is the maximum speed of the tgv on 1500DC?.
Also the pantographs are they simply dedicated to each voltage?
I love the BB26000 locos, we travelled behind one from Tours to Paris, it was I believe on 1500 all the way and I had a speedo on my phone and on one section we did 200 kph.
Thanks :) the maximum speed of the TGV on 1500DC is 220 km/h on the Paris - Bordeaux classic line for exemple :)
And yes every panto is adapted to its voltage, the 25kV AC panto is too light for the heavy DC catenary and the imposing panto DC could damage the very slight AC catenary :)
@@Railtrotter thankyou.
What i find really silly is in the UK they were quick to adopt 25kv which is a great system but also either converted 1500dc to 25kv or in the case of the Manchester to Sheffield route closed the line.
In the UK on 25KV the maximum speed is 200kph except for the Eurostar to St Pancras
The French have once again shown they know about trains.
Obviously 25kv is superior as for the same power you only 1/16th of the current.
yes, it's 200 km/h for classical trains, and 220 for TGV on some particular lines under 1500 V
@@emmeuge I really love French trains ,,so many interesting things to see.
Also the SNCF made great publicity videos in the 40s and 50s, even though I don't understand because I don't speak French they are probably the best in the world.
I do like the old DC locos especially the one with the old diamond pantographs.

My French is very poor...so English it is...excellent video..did frame by frame view of the voltage change DC to AC and back to DC again. I would assume that the pan is dropped during the transitions.
yes it is
Yes and when it is up again in the tgv line, it is set to a particular position that allows only reduced up and down mouvements. So they are 4 possibilities : 2 x 25 kv AC positions indeed, one for the high speed line and one for the conventional 25 kV AC line, 1 for the 1,5 kv DC line, and 1 for lowering the pantograph.
