Back in the mid 70’s I lived on an old farm in Minnesota while in college. The owner lived in town but in the early spring he would get about 2000 chicks which he would allow to free range. We did have a barn/coop but since the farm was in a narrow valley they just roamed. All my roommates and I did was open and close the barn door The chickens took care of themselves. We had barred rock, those island reds and leghorns. In the fall he and his kids would harvest most of the birds and occasionally they would come out for eggs. Usually we got all the eggs. There was a large leghorn rooster we called Foghorn He stood around 3foot tall and was fearless. Turn your back on him and you risked an attack. Your videos bring back of memories of a great time of my life. Thank you
The medical project is wonderful‼️ How amazing that she contacted you and came up from Texas to get them. I'm sure it makes you feel that you are contributing to life saving work. This is so much better than a tough rooster in a pressure cooker!
I just watched this now. Wow! What a great story! God definitely has a plan for us and our animals. This video is the perfect example of why watching the Arms Family Homestead is such a joy. We learn so.much from you and your terrific family, Daniel. I had no idea they use eggs to research heart disease and other things. Houston must be so impressed that the Roosters were going to make such a difference in this world. Just a really great story. 😊😊😊😊
I get mine from Cackle Hatchery. The meat birds I ordered strait run. They are in Missouri. Them came by USPS. I didn't loose a single bird. I raised 25 Cornish X for the freezer. Also ordered Rode Island Reds for my brown eggs. 11 hens and 2 boosters. The reds were given their shots. Don't mess with the feed stores...go to the pro's Just my opion.
And Cackle IS PRO! Some of their hatching eggs come from purebred Show poultry. It's sort of a neat way to hide who the breeder is. (No one can claim whose bloodlines they are and mess someone's great reputation up.) So, the youth in 4 H (or anyone who gambles on Hatchery chickens to show professionally) may end up with true show stock. If you want really good birds to show, I reccomend going to an old time show breeder. My GGdad was a Poultry Judge with the American Poultry Association and was co-author of the Standard of Perfection. The book to Judge purebred poultry by. He helped start The APA. E.C. Branch. I will send you some info. I know you would love it.
Cackle or Murry hatchery are the best! I've never got a wrong order or wrong sexes. Any birds I've bought from around town ends up getting sick while in quarantine! I sure won't be doing that again. It's a risk to my entire flock.
Everything turned out great for those skinny birds. We had them as kids for eggs, they were tough as nails. Thanks for the video, much b love and peace. Blessings
Had a chicken farm for a year we ran 7500 hens and 700 roosters for a hatchery. It was a great experience, lots of work the first thing you need to impress (literally) on the roosters is who is the boss. My son approximately 12 at time found that out when a rooster thought it would be a good idea to take a run out of him. Have a great day.
I am Grady's great grandmother, and this too happened to us in raising chickens, one turned into a rooster and stayed, the other one didn't. We also had a rooster that lived for 25years!!! Love y'all's channel. Lela Faye, from Oregon.
That was such an awesome thing to come across by getting rid of some rooster's. The story of what they do with the eggs and all the prestigious medical articles that have been written on them is amazing. Thanks for sharing this video it might be something we all look back on in the future‼️
I also have a leghorn rooster .My profile pic.He is just awesome. He doesn't eat himself but gives everything to hens.He runs after everyone except me.He doesn't let anyone enter our property.I have let him out on my 1 acre land all day long,no restrictions.
They are really good looking birds!! Nice looking roosters! The project they are working on is Incrediable! Sounds a little crazy but if its for the good then great!!
That really was cool!!! I had a hen that was 9 that was still laying...she was the last of my flock and her guard dog died so I sent her to my sister in Nebraska she lived 2 more years...stopped laying the last 6 months is all...I was impressed with that.
I believe the Leghorn gets its name from a town in italy where the breed was developed. It is correctly pronounced "leggern", and thats not just a southern thing.
Bo Bauer Yep, that’s how it’s pronounced, and we pronounce it that way up north, too! My grandfather (born 1917, Iowa) always said it that way. Here in Michigan, we say leggern, too. Leg-horn just doesn’t sound right. lol Just an guess - maybe the old Foghorn Leghorn cartoons destroyed the proper pronunciation.🤷🏻♀️😂
Bo Bauer I was reading the comments looking to see if anyone else had mentioned Leghorn Italy. I discovered this many years ago, also that they were developed in the 1500s or so. Had an Aha! moment when I realized it was the Renaissance . . . all that egg tempera paint . . . Got me wondering if they were developed to keep all those artists in eggs for their painting contracts.
@@tarantulady8565 I've wondered about Foghorn Leghorn cartoons destroying pronunciation also, but I think some people see it in print and think HORN is how to say it.
What a nice story! I'm sorry though, to know, that there are scammers, too, in your place. Last year, i was hoping to buy a pair of a chicken and a rooster. The seller said that when those chicks i was buying grows up, one will become a hen and the other a rooster. But when both grew up, they were both hens, no rooster! I was scammed! How can i have chicks in the future if i don't have a rooster??! And so, it took many months after before i was able to buy a young rooster which has grown big now. Thanks for sharing this video! And i really adore your pet dachshund, she's so cute!!!
Noemi Salamante Sorry you feel you got scammed, but at least you got two hens! Usually it's two roos! And it's usually easy to find someone dying to have someone take a rooster off their hands. Shame you paid money for a rooster, unless you wanted a specific breed or something.
Their ears are also apparently similar to ours... I have an old friend who became an ear/nose/throat surgeon, he said he trained a lot on chicken ears.... Handsome healthy looking birds... if ones most say have limited use....
You sir, are a policeman, a lifesaver yourself; so it is part of Gods calling on your life. Scripture says those in authority like you are ministers of God for righteousness sake! Blessings!
As soon as we lost our rooster one of my hens started to crow and even got long saddle feathers. (Still latex eggs) It’s to attract other roosters to the flock and to keep predators guessing. I had to get another rooster to make her normal too.
My niece graduated from Texas A&M !
She competed in a Intercollegiate Horse Show with honors in PA a few years ago.
Great School !
You put a smile on my face knowing that you are doing something good

Those roosters were so pretty! I love them.
Just got my first eggs from one of my hens these past 5 days. 5 eggs! Bomgaars sold me 10 chickens, they grew up to be 5 roosters and 5 hens.
Wow! They are gorgeous😍
Not a scam but an amazing blessing. Just think, Mr. Arms, God chose you to meet this need. Wow.

Daniel this is a great story. You might not have wanted leghorn roosters but God knew you needed them. I love when things like that happen. Big hugs.
What a great turn of events for your roosters. From the frying pan into medical research.
God bless you for donating them to research.
Great information!
They are some very handsome birds.
Cool, that is mind blowing. You are promoting science.
That is so cool that you being scammed turned out so remarkably. Thank you for sharing, not only your roosters, but this story.
Feels like the good Lord orchestrated the whole situation. Thanks for participating and sharing.
Amen

I have done three straight run orders from them of white silkies. Every time over half were roosters.
They were beautiful roosters- but SO many roosters.
Foghorn LEGHORN is the only one pronounced LEG HORN!! LOL Kristy in Missouri 😎
Our high school football coach used chickens to train defensive backs. One on one, the players chased chickens in the open field.
Had a buddy that had a rooster that lived to be 18 years old.
Hi
@cnal antilq ola
Those Leghorn roosters were gorgeous! I have a female, 5 yrs old, still laying. Thanks for this video, fascinating. Go A&M, go Aggies 😀✌🇨🇱
Nature takes care of it's own. By creating a rooster where there were none. That is amazing.
I heard about another story about that happened in England
Those chickens sure love to make some noise 🐓🐓
That is a awsome story. Im a heart patient. It would be awsome to have no more heary diease. Bless them and your family.
Orchleans sold me a white Legern as a Brahma , I also got a Cinnamon queen in my Rhode island reds, fun times!!
Everything turned out great for those skinny birds. We had them as kids for eggs, they were tough as nails. Thanks for the video, much b love and peace. Blessings
How interesting. Could save our lives.❤️❤️
My oldest chicken lived to be 14. She was an awesome chicken

Just found several articles online about hens turning into roosters. Fascinating!

Shows how wonderful Gods creation is in the children’s and their eggs🐓💝🐓
Very interesting, you are now in the medical field too!!!😁
They are really good looking birds!! Nice looking roosters! The project they are working on is Incrediable! Sounds a little crazy but if its for the good then great!!

Nice catch , I’m impressed

That's amazing. Thanks for sharing, God Bless !
Congratulations on the home for the Leghorn roasters. What a great place for them.
I do believe you’d call that providence. God’s ways are not our ways. His plans are not our plans. Very cool.
