Thanks for review, I bought one for the availability of small tips, but it came set for showing the Chinese language on the display. Now I've got mine reading in English.
The "specifications" on the Aliexpress sales page states: "Maximum power: DC12V/6A or more C210 heating core up to 72W". It is not going to be easy to find a USB-C PD power supply that is rated at more than 3A at 12V. Typically, 5A is only supported at 20V. Whether it is going to become a problem (foldback/shutdown) in daily use, is another question. But in general, it's not a good idea to rely on being able to safely draw twice the rated current.
the aliexpress page shows a "standard" power socket to usb3 adapter that comes with the unit. It looks like another small piece that would be easy to loose
Neat little thing, good review too. I have a question for others in the comment section, does the price double to 40$ when you click on the link to aliexpress for you? It does for me. Even more funny, after that, similar item from other sellers (same thing really) takes a price hike to 70$
Why dont you compare and rank these irons according to something ? It would be really helpful since I'm looking for a certain portable iron that is the best, according to your videos fnirsi hs02 looks pretty good to me if it can support c115 tips too.
Is the soldering cartridge tip grounded to the UCB-C Shell/shield in any way, directly or via a resistor? Otherwise there could be a considerable risk of ESD damage to the parts being soldered, given the typical leakage of switching USB power supplies.
Grounding to the shell doesn't help, since the shell isn't earthed on most USBC type supplies anyway. It could even make it worse. You'll have to use a custom cable or PSU or crocodile clip to properly earth it.
JBC C210 tip is connected to the middle contact, internally. So from video it looks like PCB ground will be connected to the tip (perhaps USB 0v is connected to tip). Better to use battery power for USB irons, though.
@@jaro6985 it would be fairly trivial to add a separate ground lead to the same location where the ESD wrist strap is wired. But if the tip is not connected to shield/cabinet, that would be impossible. Hence the question.
It says it works with the 245 cartridges, is that true? I'm curious to see if it can hit the claimed 70+ watts because it also doesn't mention what the max power is on 20V or if it's even actually capable of running at 20V on USB PD power.
I noticed the same claims on the Aliexpress sales page. But there is no way a T245 cartridge would fit that iron. I guess the electronics design is probably compatible with T245@20V but it would definitely require a new shell/enclosure

Even as a spare for emergency's, you can't go wrong for £20. Great review and thanks for sharing, Steve.
Very similar to a Pinecil in many ways, but not less expensive. Glad this type of iron is becoming more common.
finally better conacts to contact tip rings than on most i have seen which are basic and heat up a lot if tip is under load
wonder how good is movement sensor its really important for using a handle. mine sometimes goes to sleep while i use it if i dont shake it much
"HDM" or upside-down" WCH"? 3:44
@@AdityaMehendale yep my mistake 😭

the problem with these c210 irons is that you need a "high" current 5a power supply @10v-12v as the tip resistance is ~2ohm
JBC C210 is 40W rated. By my calculations, 9v would be optimal (4.5A).
I see they left the protective film on the OLED ;)
Can you share the soldering test PCB on PCBWAY?
At that price a pair might be usefull in lieu of tweezers for SMD work
Chopstick iron!

I wonder if the adapter with a DC barrel jack will supply the current?
@@acoustic61 defeats having a USB-C socket, though.
@@mortenhattesen Well, most Chinese made clones and supposed compatible soldering stations have these types of issues.

Pps 11v 5a
I have TS80 but then the tips are more expensive than JBC tips and I had few die after using those just few times...
This should solve it.
Interesting, mostly because it could be used with a higher voltage capable (QC3,QD3) battery bank as a field unit.
I like it a lot, thanks for the video!
Comparing this to FNIRSI HS-02A and the KSGER C210 Portable, which one is the best? Hoping for your reply!

it maybe useful, but i have butane for emergency's and a Weller on the bench, so not really needed

Can you please make a video about mechanic 857DW plus SMD . And also the comparison between quick 857dw plus and mechanic 857dw plus

Still waiting for a T245 OLED iron that can draw the full 200W via an XT60.
Lol, are you going to use it to solder copper pipe or what?
@@XciterD for soldering other XT60s

I doubt a T245 iron would be able to draw more than 100W@20V if it is powered using USB-C.
I bet his XT60 can handle 60 amps so it'll be easy
