It is a postmodern reinterpretation of 80s and 90s media culture that evokes a sense of longing or melonchonia for an illusory past ( most Vaporwave fans are millenials or Gen-Z). It just isn't how it was, and we can't accept that fact so we construct a "better" past to justify our evasion of the present. That's why we love Vaporwave. It is a comfort and a dream.

It must feel like another dimension for them but for me, its simply a fun ride back to the past (especially this jam) I was just saying that your statement of has been somewhat adopted as a verifiable truth since 2016
