Got 70 videos out so far and the past few weeks there’s been a ton of marketers getting in touch saying my videos aren’t SEO optimized. Now I’m doing my research trying to learn. Thanks for the tips. Will experiment and apply these in my future videos.

🙏 Gillian I love that you give the history of the RUclips algorithm. 🥰One thing that I would recommend after testing it on one of my videos (that has almost 6 million views) is that over the past decade I've tested the tags section and when I put in similar tags it ranks on the first page of Google usually in the first or second place and when I change up those tags to more generic tags it drops completely to another page. I've tested this over and over and every time I put in a couple of the same tags with different endings on then this makes a big difference. Anyway I hope that helps. Big hugs 🤗💖

I loved the tip about adding brackets or parentheses to the titles-it seems so simple but could really boost clicks! I also learned that RUclips cares about what we say in our videos even more than tags. That makes sense since they auto-caption everything. And the idea of using social proof by engaging with my own videos is kind of sneaky but smart. I can’t wait to try these tips out! Thanks for sharing such great insights!

People who can do actual keyword research start with intuition/common sense and then move into analytics. There isn’t really a “one or the other” approach. But you did a good job giving a question i actually answered.

Choosing the keywords and planning your video around the keywords is in my opinion what sets apart an amateur RUclipsr from someone who is doing it professionally. You need some proof of concept before you sit down to script, record, edit, and upload a video. If you can’t compete or you are not competent enough to talk about the subject matter, it will be a waste of time to make the video. I’ve wasted a lot of time making videos I wanted to make. Now I think about it in terms of what videos that need to be made. How can I provide value to people with the information I have?
I create cleaning, decluttering, and organizing videos so I usually film THEN research. I am going to try to research first. One thing that always confusing me , I will recycle a title, keywords, etc. of a well-performing video and it wont do as well. Why us that??

Gillian, just watched this video which explained LOADS to me. I have a small channel and my subscribers are growing slowly (it's a niche subject). Now I will go back and try and amend my basic SEO (small steps stay in my memory better). Regarding keywords - I've been putting these with hashtags just under the description - should I now use LESS of these and incorporate them into the description text instead? Thanks so much, Lorraine
