Hi Ann, finally new video! Wonderful video this time. Thanks for making time for Indonesian sub. Reading the sub, you chose casual indonesian in some parts, interesting. Either DeepL is getting better or you're getting good at Indonesian, or simply having Indonesian friend to check the sub hahaha. And your editing style is getting good too, the cuts and the color is simply good!
Great vacation, and you chose superb hotel too! Hotel Majapahit (known before as many name, one of them is Hotel Yamato) is one of the historical place for Indonesia, you can google "Insiden Hotel Yamato." Good to see Surabaya from your perspective, so many has changed. If you have another chance to visit the city, try local foods, so many delicious culinary there. And as a souvenir, the famous Sambal Bu Rudi.
Bromo's amazing right? Definitely try the sunrise package next time. And visit Malang/Kota Batu for the attraction with cool weather and if you like waterfalls, you should try Tumpak Sewu; all in East Java area.
Thanks for the update, and waiting for your next videos! Have a nice week Ann! (it's a pun for weekend but yeah hahaha)

      Hi Umar,
      I’ve been in Jakarta for 2 years, only know Indonesian words related to food. It wasn't until I made this video that I learned that there are different ways to say "we" in Indonesian, like "kami" and "kita." And in the comments, I found out there are also different words for "I" - gue, saya, aku. I tried to understand the differences, but honestly, it's still a bit fuzzy to me haha…^^;
I'm not sure if there are any slang terms in the subtitles. Actually, when I did the Indonesian subtitles, I first translated my original Chinese script to English, and then translated from English to Indonesian. After that, double-checked each line, translating the Indonesian back into Chinese or English to make sure it made sense. It could take more than half an hour for a single sentence, but I did pick up some new Indonesian words. Hopefully, I'll learn better at it as I make more videos.
Before visiting Hotel Majapahit, I had a pretty limited understanding of its history. But when I googled "Insiden Hotel Yamato," it hit me hard - turns out it was a big deal, a major battlefield with so many important historical memories!
Really grateful for your recommendation of Sambal Bu Rudy. Even though my husband and I don't eat spicy, I'm actually looking for some authentic Indonesian chili sauce (like Sambal Terasi) to bring back to my family in Taiwan. I saw Sambal Bu Rudi on Tokopedia, so I'll order it and for them to try. Big thanks!
Next time visit Jawa Timur, I'll make sure to plan for at least 4 nights, explore Mount Ijen and Tumpak Sewu waterfall. Maybe want to experience Mount Bromo at a different time again. It left such a lasting impression on me.
Thank you for always being there, I really appreciate it! By the way, I initially wanted to update the video last weekend so that I could naturally say "have a nice weekend" haha, but the editing process took longer than expected. Anyway, wish you a pleasant day every day, stay healthy, and all the best! :)

@@AnndiJakarta People said Indonesia is easy to learn hard to master. What foreigners learned in class/duolingo/etc really different with daily conversation. So Indonesian divided 2 types: formal spoken/written language (what you see/hear in news, official meetings, etc) and casual daily conversation with friends/family like in sinetron, local variety show, or conversation market and other various places. For the first part of your subs, it's got the casual type of Indonesian. But in some parts there's a formal type that i can tell it was directly from machine translations because Indonesian doesn't write like that :)
Anyways, it's not a big deal because we all understand what you mean, and I really appreciated your efforts making Indonesian sub.
Oh, there's a difference between kami dan kita. "Kami" is "us" and "Kita" is "we." Maybe someone with proper language knowledge can explain it in more detail.
As for many types of "I" : "saya" is the most formal and polite term. Used in formal occasion, to your superior/older. "Aku" is the polite version. Used with family/lover/feiends. "Gue/gua" is the most casual. Used most in jakarta metro area/bigger cities in java. Only use this to friends or someone closed to you. Fun fact: gua dan lo (you) origin is from Hokkian dialect.
I have another recommendations for another sambal: sambal roa amd sambal ijo. Those 2 are less spicy than sambal bawang bu rudi imo.
Thanks for the reply Ann, have a nice rest!

I completely agree and understand your first statement! Indonesian uses the same alphabet as English (unlike Thai, can’t understand at all). It may not seem difficult to read at first, but expressing emotions and conveying the intended meaning in a sentence is truly challenging.
Here's a joke: When I first started living here, it took me at least three months to understand the word order in Indonesian. For example, "nasi putih" in Indonesian, ”rice" is "nasi" and "white" is "putih" In my native language, Chinese, it's the opposite, "white" comes before "rice”. If follow Chinese logic, it should be "puith nasi”, "goreng mie”, "goreng nasi"... It really confused me until one day I finally realized it and felt silly haha! (why didn’t my husband tell me? ^^; )
A sentence that may consist of six Chinese characters can become much longer in Indonesian (or maybe I just haven't mastered local Indonesian yet). Sometimes when I watch the subtitles, I can understand Chinese right away, but I'm not sure if the Indonesian subtitles are long enough...
Thanks for your detailed explanation! It was easy to understand. You explained that "kami" and "kita" refer to "we" or "our" with a distinction. But the explanation I found was about the size of the differentiating groups. So I thought I should use "kami" for "we" in all the subtitles this time, I thought it was like this, and changed all Kita to kami…
So, is it better for me to use "saya" when expressing "I" in my videos? Should I standardize it or switch based on different contexts?
Recently, our Taiwanese elders visit Jakarta (I might edit it into a video later) and when they asked if we can speak Indonesian, or know the basic 50 words in conversations, my husband knows more than me, but I'm not at that level yet... That's what made me think about making Indonesian subtitles, cause it's probably the best opportunity for me to learn.
Thanks so much! I’ll continue to learn and understand how to use these words.
Take care and get some rest too! :)
(Thanks for the recommendation! It's great that I can bring back local Indonesian chili sauce for my family🙏👍)

@@AnndiJakarta Sorry for the late reply. Thanks to our founding fathers that chose bahasa indonesia as national language and use latin alphabet. Otherwise we're speaking in Sanskrit/aksara jawa/other local languages, hehehe. Yes, it is difficult to catch the intended meaning/emotions on written words. That's why I'd prefer talk straight to the person if it's really important to avoid misunderstanding. Written words can be too ambiguous in Indonesian.
Some said bahasa indonesia is a poetry language, that's why it feels long than it ahould be. We're having to many words and adding extra step to explain something lol. Same case happens with Emglish translations. Simple words/sentence can be long enough if you translate to Indonesian. For the sentence structures, just realized that east asians have difference structures to us Indonesian (can't speak for another SEA countries asides from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei). That's why we have opposite structures from you guys. I know Japanese semtence is completely the opposite from Indonesian cmiiw.
For the vlog I think "Saya" is the proper use, because it feels awkward enough with "aku" "kamu." That's just my opinions. But never with "Gue" dan "lo," it feels wrong on so many levels lol.
Don't hesitate to ask for more recommendations, will be happy to help.
