- In the overseas territory of Mayotte, French authorities have begun a controversial operation to expel thousands of migrants from a shantytown there. France says it plans to send the migrants to the Comoran island of Anjouan, but Comoran authorities say they'll refuse to take them in. France is also planning on destroying more slums across Mayotte, with residents there fearing they could end up homeless. FRANCE 24's Andrew Hilliar reports.

Congratulations to France let's hope more countries will follow this example
A country has the right to protect its citizens! Well done France!
That's an independent country. They are not french citizens! France does not own the land! It belongs to Africans. They need to get out of Africa! Colonialism is OVER! They are not welcomed! Get your facts straight!
@@omarmckenzie8757 They chose to remain french when the comoros voted for independence in 1974.
This island isn't france
France has some nerve to deport, Africa from Africa, talm bout france!!!
Defending their stolen island😂
If the french people weren’t even there they wouldn’t even come as they since they only come to profit like all migrants that want to come to europe
Not stolen the people there want to be apart of France
@Mira Moche for how much did the sultan sell it
@@lifeonaleak9389people of Mayotte voted to stay in France.
@@miramoche8901how someone sell people and their land
I am fine with this, stop attempting to sow fear and initiate some public outcry by giving videos these types of titles. There are immense levels of crime on Mayotte as a result of illegal immigration. EU is currently preoccupied with Ukraine and a looming financial crisis, they don't have time or money to spend on these kinds of things. If they are deported, so be it.
The island doesn't not belong to France
Letting the whole entitlement (without responsibility) to get so out of hand is the real problem. but never to late to CLEAN CLOCK.
🎉🎉🎉 Bravo Mayotte! If US do this it will make me more Proud to be American.
😂😂😂😂Now france is feeling the judgment for their sins. America belong to the natives not white people. You biggot
What’s your Native American tribe(s)?
Who has allowed this island to become a catastrophic mega ghetto in the first place , yet a french departement , to just cut mayotte lose would be a much better chose for France , it would save a few badly needed euros , amist harsh economic times .
That's what the colonism all about, rob Africa, declare they are france, yet there are poor communities and remains as such.
British did the same thing to some ilslanders from Mauritius, then sold it to USA for military bases.
@Mira Moche they are the wealthiest in the region. This is how bad poverty in Africa. Hence why people migrate to former colonial powers they have all the money and still conduct neocolonialism throughout the world via IMF restructuring debt traps sanctions n coups. Stop pretending as if this isn't already obvious why ask such a ridiculous question?
@Mira Moche those aren't excuses those are verifiable facts lol imf loans haven't reduced poverty in most cases. Mayotte is the wealthiest island in the region yet poverty is obviously extreme with no solutions from Paris beyond brutalizing half the population. They could have brought investments or social workers instead they brought men with guns and rubber bullets. Just like a colonial power.
The people there literally want to be apart of France….. and we didn’t sell it to the USA that island is still our overseas territory
@@franzjoseph1837 how are they brutalising them? And the citizens of France on the island support the operation
Then why are they illegally migrating to Mayotte?
Qu'il rentre chez comme il veule ou de force
Stopping Africa to go Africa is not right
They are not French islands, they belong to Comoros.
Do people on there agree with this statement?
@@kd1405 the ones being displaced?
@@meeowgforever no. The locals
@@kd1405 aren't the persons being displaced the locals?
@@meeowgforever nope. Theyre the comorian illegal immigrants who raise criminality on the island.
Can anyone explain to me how this african island became part of France? Seriously it doesn't make sense.
In 1974, they were given the option to become independent and they were the only nation that wanted to stay with France. Hence the reason why the French are there still.
@@jayfromdalower3795 OK thanks to explain it
@@jayfromdalower3795they were not given much of a choice
@@glintongordon6811 how is that? the thugs had a choice and went independant an island over, then suddenly realized their was no welfare check and invaded French territory. the only problem was that women that had seven kids while there and isn't a landed immigrant: free money ends NOW!
That's african land. France is occupation force...
It was bought from a sultan.
@@emptyhad2571in colonial days, you don't still keep slaves do you?
@@glintongordon6811 of course you do. it's now called the Amazon or Walmart warehouse.
It's not Frances territory! This will be another defeat like Haiti!!!!!!!!!!
Hat I wanted independence the people there don’t
Cope?
Emagine this? This is a African land, And France own it and some people are complaining about Russia invading Ukrain really????
Pakistan needs dictionary first and France is the security provider , why don't ur pakistan nor other islamic countries take them in
Little do you know. The Maorais -- the citizens of Mayotte -- rejected independence in 1974, while it could gone for it when the Comoros became independent. Let's be honest, Mayotte is a burden on France, a burden it would rather be rid of.
The people of Mayotte were offered independence but elected to remain part of France.
Bro, when you don't know, don't speak. The Mahorais, Mayotte local population, wanted to stay in France and be a "Departement"
🤡
Come back to the country
