What you say is not surprising at all, coming from a tourist attraction in Malaysia. The local work culture is just that laid back - if they can skive, they WILL skive. If it's time for their break - they will just close it and walk off, and not give two shits about you as the tourist/guest.
They have another "theme park" that is out of the city called Lost City of Tambun where you could waste another day but probably could get another funny review out of. haha
I went there last week. I wanted to like it but it was kinda disappointing all things considered, besides the hot springs since I genuinely enjoyed those. Their Dragon's Lair portion of the Adventure River was apparently not working that day and I knew I should just turn my brain off and relax in some hot water to forget how disappointed I was 😭
Based on their history with the former Wonderland Sydney along with how they're operating this park, I think we can conclude that Sunway should not be in the business of operating theme parks.
I remember my family taking me to Sunway Lagoon back in around 2005 or 2006 (confirmed by the mention of a wildlife section having been added some time in 2007), didn't have much memories of it except for some vague memories (to be fair, I was a kid back then), and your video helped explain why my family never went back there.
I'm not going to lie you may have been through the worst employee interactions I could ever imagine. As an operator myself at Holiday World, you never ever startle your guests or make them feel uncomfortable. I don't know how I would react if I experienced the sudden clap that you went through from that employee, especially since I'm autistic and that would most definitely trigger me in a negative way. (That's scarier than any horror maze.)
I feel like you didn't do this review justice because it seems like you picked the wrong day to go when the park is hosting a concert. They really do need to improve their comms though, the website is not very helpful.
I mean, for the price i paid which is around RM280 for 1 year pass, it's not actually that bad. It's good enough to go when you don't have anything planned for the weekend.
The last time i went was 2019, no one goes for the actual theme park, they just go for the pools. That actual theme park part of the park was run down as hell, the park after around 2014 or 2016 were always empty. The last thing i went to that was good from there was the ghostbusters haunted house aint gon lie.
Just saw a video from last year by a family of 4. The park was packed and so is the actual theme park you called "run down as hell". I am guessing they took the chance to fix the place up during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Agree! Premium price for shitty rides, bad management, and bad attitude staff. Everything seems to be focusing on maximizing profits and not on creating happiness and memories.
Why call the distance from Australia to Malaysia “halfway across the world” …. You guys are practically neighbors. I’m just confused, do you not realize how close the distance is ? It’s like me as an American saying Cuba is halfway across the world. It just doesn’t make any sense. Lol.
I had a similarly bizarre experience around 8 years ago. Heaps of things were closed, we were wandering around trying to figure out what to do. The horror experience was more elaborate though. It was 30 minutes, but 30 minutes of almost constant scares.
I’m a local 23 years old who just visited this theme park for the first time in my life. It was pretty decent for me. I don’t get to go waterparks often but at least it wasn’t all that bad , for me.
Sorry to hear that you were not able to ride Pirate's Revenge (Intamin Looping Starship). I am thinking about visiting Sunway Lagoon sometime in the future just to ride this. It is my favourite flat ride.
I kinda want to go there, it sounds like a train wreck. Plus the bad movies like Scream Park would be a huge draw for a Mystery Science Theater fan like me.
I bought the annual pass for sunway lagoon. The first time i went there, it was really fun, however often times when i visit theres one main issue. They do not mention which parks are closed. The rollercoaster has been closed for like a month??? it gets boring eventually and everything is expensive
I went to the park once when I was a child with my dad, and we spent most of our time in the water park area and I remembered it being so awesome and everything was new and clean - this was circa 2003. Didn’t know the place has turned into such a dilapidated state :(
as a kid i remembered being so excited to visit a theme park for the first time in my life. the moment i changed into my bathing suit and stepped into one of the pools i stared down at the murkiness of the water to the extent where i couldn’t even see my feet. instantly disgusted, i looked up to scout the area and found a grown man sliding down one of the water slides, and ended up throwing up in the pool where my feet stood in. safe to say never again
As a local, I can say maintenance on theme park facilities has always been a challenge. I always visit these aging theme parks with expectations of only half the attractions are available.
sorry about this experience, just got back from a 4 day stay at tokyo disney resort... you are going to love Fantasy Springs... we are waiting for your review of it.
Don’t waste time coming to malaysia for theme park. For like seriously. I would suggest u go to china such as colorful yunnan in kunming, universal studios beijing, happy valley shanghai and chimelong in guangzhou. As a malaysian, i am ashamed of my country’s theme parks 🤦♀️
From your podcast horror story about this park, I wasn't expecting it to be so urban and in the middle of a city. Was expecting a middle of nowhere park.
born and raised near where sunway city is, I've always felt FOMO as I've never been to sunway lagoon, mostly cuz I couldn't afford it, but watching this video made me feel better
I don't think these guys went there for the rides. The only video with them at the park was at the suspension bridge, and you can see that he was not dressed for a water park. I have seen other videos and people would put on a wet suit or swim wear, because they know they are going to get wet.
Lmao I love how you started this video by mentioning Wonderland. I will never understand why these clowns were allowed to purchase wonderland in the first place. It's so obvious now that they deliberately ran it into the ground because the land was worth more than the theme park itself. It will never not piss me off
I was a student in a public university nearby in 1997 now KL is my home. Yet, I never enter sunway. Prices so expensive.. end up I went to Sunway Tambun in Ipoh, the next state in Malaysia.
Not really defending the park's rundown-ness, but I think you hit the unfortunate timing of having a concert on that night. I've been many times and there's usually some sort of soundtrack as another commenter said. The halloween event is not really the same as the one scream park attraction. Those are legit haunted house mazes, so maybe looking up reviews of that event on this site would be a better review for it.
I rmb going here in 2011 ish, the only thing I remember was the snaking long lines at the water park, and dirty pool water in the lazy river… It’s no surprise that my parents never went back there again.
As a malaysian that has been to sunway lagoon, while i do agree that their layout is confusing and they have had some issues with closed rides.. i never knew it was this bad. But to be fair, i went later in the day when more people were there and most rides were opened, so about the ride closing issue maybe u just need to go later in the day haha
Heyy we had the same step counts; 20k steps gang assemble!😂 I went to the Sunway Lagoon last month with a group of friends. That 5D cinema experience was the worst. The haunted house? So darn boring. The attractions are mostly mediocre unfortunately. The only fun memory about that day was spending time with my friends, nothing about the theme park whatsoever😂
Haha yep Malaysia theme parks are a special class. But I agree I always think of this as a decent water park with a couple of bonus crappy dry rides. Also the scare ride you went on is the worst, the rest are actually pretty good with some surprisingly good theming and scares.
honestly yeah :/ considering i live near that area, i remember when it was just that and barely anything else. and then other stores opened up, and more water parks (cough cough splash mania) and just. that place fell off so hard i dont think about it anymore

There's probably a reason my teacher didn't went here earlier this month for my school trip unlike last year's school trip.
My college used to be right next to this theme park, now the same old building is the hostel dorms for the students studying in that college
Bro nobody go to sunway lagoon no more..we prefer gamuda water park
as a kid i remembered being so excited to visit a theme park for the first time in my life. the moment i changed into my bathing suit and stepped into one of the pools i stared down at the murkiness of the water to the extent where i couldn’t even see my feet. instantly disgusted, i looked up to scout the area and found a grown man sliding down one of the water slides, and ended up throwing up in the pool where my feet stood in. safe to say never again
I actually had a memorable time at sunway lagoon as a local!
From your podcast horror story about this park, I wasn't expecting it to be so urban and in the middle of a city.
Was expecting a middle of nowhere park.
I go to one of the many universities near the theme park and yea… feels surreal to be only a 5 min drive to a theme park LMAO
The bridge from Sunway University to the mall (Sunway Pyramid) crosses through the park LOL
We went there last month and its all good. It's okay and we have so much fun. It's easy to make a comparison when you've been to so many theme park.
1:45 is actually under maintainance when i walked by the canopy from college to pyramid it has been for weeks now
born and raised near where sunway city is, I've always felt FOMO as I've never been to sunway lagoon, mostly cuz I couldn't afford it, but watching this video made me feel better
What a shame to go all that way, and not be able to ride the ride you visited for 😮💨
I don't think these guys went there for the rides. The only video with them at the park was at the suspension bridge, and you can see that he was not dressed for a water park. I have seen other videos and people would put on a wet suit or swim wear, because they know they are going to get wet.
Im sorry you had a bad time there. Im a Malaysian who stays near by and loves going to Sunway Lagoon since i was young
Jeez, even the tiny amusement park down the street from me is probably more entertaining (at least the rides are actually running during park hours).
More videos like this please ❤
vanilla sweet cream cold brew absolutely rocks, I totally understand going out of the way for it to start your day- its the little things!🤭🥰
Those poor animals
Not really defending the park's rundown-ness, but I think you hit the unfortunate timing of having a concert on that night. I've been many times and there's usually some sort of soundtrack as another commenter said. The halloween event is not really the same as the one scream park attraction. Those are legit haunted house mazes, so maybe looking up reviews of that event on this site would be a better review for it.
that thing looks like the hot mess i make when i play rollercoaster tycoon or planet coaster lol
Dang, last time i've been here I was like 8 yrs old and that was back in 2013
All that for a Timmy trumpet show is maddening within itself.
I needed to Google Timmy trumpet
As a Malaysian It’s simply expensive for a normal citizen to go.
I rmb going here in 2011 ish, the only thing I remember was the snaking long lines at the water park, and dirty pool water in the lazy river…
It’s no surprise that my parents never went back there again.
Every time I go there, sure got notice board outside showing what shows are closed for the day.
Same, i also experienced this bfr. So after that i check their websites before i go there.
The bridge is still there? I thought it was going to break when I walked on it some 10+ years ago. 🤣
Heyy we had the same step counts; 20k steps gang assemble!😂
I went to the Sunway Lagoon last month with a group of friends. That 5D cinema experience was the worst. The haunted house? So darn boring. The attractions are mostly mediocre unfortunately. The only fun memory about that day was spending time with my friends, nothing about the theme park whatsoever😂
I agree it getting old and no improvement has been done since it opened
i recommended y'all to go penang escape park
Haha yep Malaysia theme parks are a special class. But I agree I always think of this as a decent water park with a couple of bonus crappy dry rides. Also the scare ride you went on is the worst, the rest are actually pretty good with some surprisingly good theming and scares.
honestly yeah :/ considering i live near that area, i remember when it was just that and barely anything else. and then other stores opened up, and more water parks (cough cough splash mania) and just. that place fell off so hard i dont think about it anymore
1:11 this looks like the title screen from a bad indie horror game
Wow! This makes Walt Disney Studios Park 1.0 look good by comparison. We own it an apology after seeing this.
5:41 wait where is this? a re-animator section??
“Kulu kumpawr” its the worst attempt of trying to say Kuala Lumpur i have ever seen😭
10:15 😂 everyone enjoyed it but you guys dread it 😂
Sunway Lagoon managment doesn't care about the theme park so over the years it got dissapointing
Go to Lost World of Tambun, Perak next time
I go to a uni that’s 5 mins walk away from this park and I can assure y’all, I’ve seen the roller coaster and ship rides closed more than it is opened
I have a question: Where is the podcast? The last episode was released on March 29th. After that there was a Patreon episode dropped on the public feed on May 3th. It has been five months since. Is the podcast dead?
Hey Espen, the podcast is coming back next month with new episodes :) - Luke
@@ReviewTymeThank you for replying. Excellent news! I missed listening to you guys while on a walk.
ngl as a malaysian (never been there obv) i thought sunway lagoon IS A WATER-THEMED PARK, didnt know there is dry park lol
As a Malaysian l, I have to agree. Sunway Lagoon Theme Park was good. The service now is very "meh" and not really up to par of what it use to be.
17:55 Timmy Trumpet at a waterpark sounds wild. 😂
Its quite normal there ngl the wave pool was closed for a few weeks for drainage due to concerts for 2 consecutive Saturdays
This theme park review pretty much sum up how our country being run and planned 😂
I WAS WAITING FOR THE ROLLER COASTER REVIEW, "Shed the ride" is a great alternative, I called it "Store room experience" every time I was there.
Also fun fact! That coaster is famous here for a death where someone got flung out of it due to a faulty seatbelt a long time ago!
But yea MALAYSIA BOLEH 🇲🇾 🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾 WE HITTIN WAWASAN 2020 WITH THIS ONE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Maybe revenues are declining, plus high operating costs, but the park operators should do something about it seriously
It is not, he just went when they were going to start renovation. I stay 5 mins from there. It still have a lot people coming daily.
Even tho i'm Malaysian, I never went to this theme park but I didn't know it was this BAD. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with it..
This place looks like a circus 😂 At least there's a zoological park
Im local and never interested to went back after visiting it many years ago. I do see people visiting the water park while i was walking in the mall next to it though.
Went there just for the water rides. I dont blame sunway for not opening the roller coasters, because malaysians dont ride them that much. Also if they are open, probably open late.
Nice Video👍👍👍
