What a useless idea. The pop rivet slipped on the second hole! You could possibly do a better job by observation.
wrap the tape round the drill and stop at that depth ,,

It literally moved back on the second hole
Use tape it’s easier to remove. This doesn’t seem like a good idea…
And doesn't back off after the first hole.

You could also grab a piece of tape, that most everyone has on hand. Very much way more such a lot easier than this.

Run drill in reverse and mark depth with a sharpie. Or tape. This is a garbage idea and the only hack shown here is the person behind the camera! Literally slips immediately and over drills the second hole 😂
I could have done the same thing with a piece of tape.
