Oh sorry, no, that's my mistake. This alternates between a rows of standard knit stitches and rows of purled stiches. Continue alternating between the two rows: knit - purl - knit - purl etc, until you get the the length you want. I used size 4mm needles, and 35 stitches. But this was a chunky yarn, so the number of stitches might need to be increased.
