      If he's being kind he could have informed the guy what that would do. Or as DM there's any number of ways to Deus Ex Machina the situation. Maybe have a TPK and then Deus Ex Everyone but him.

    In my oppinion the best way to deal with inappropriate or uncomfortable subject matter in D&D , like sex, gore, etc, is to bring it up in sesion 0, and make sure everyone is on the same page with what is acceptable to do or act like in game. I had a player in my game several years ago that wanted his barbarian to have sex with a call girl in a tavern. I told him that he goes up to the room and has sex with her. That wasn't enough for him. He wanted to be explicit about the entire thing. I informed him that I didn't want to go that route. We were just going to say he went up to the room and had sex and leave it at that. He stated that wasn't happening. That on his turn he was going to to be explicit about the encounter and I could stop him. SMH. OKAY. So, as he is explicitly describing what is happening, I let him know what goes in, does not come out. He stated that yes, does come out. I told him no. Sharp teeth has just clamped down on "him". He said I was obviously confused because he didn't say anything about being near the woman's mouth. I told him I knew exactly where he was and that sharp teeth are clamping down. You're in bed with a doppelganger. So, he starts flailing around in the room beating this thing with his bare hands and only doing half the damage due to them being too close together for him to use his full strength. The rest of the group just sat there and laughed at his predicament. He finally killed the doppelganger and came down stairs and asked the rest of the party if they heard him upstairs. They all smiled and said, "Yeah, sounded like you had an amazing time!" He shouted that the hooker was a doppelganger and he was fighting for his life upstairs. The party told him out of character, "Maybe the next time the DM tells you he doesn't want to get explicit in sessions... maybe you should just accept that and move on."

    • @ryuudasqurrel7364
      @ryuudasqurrel7364 3 года назад +4

      i agree with the arrows to a point. with Guns in games, it's usually always the same damage, when in reality a gun up close does more damage than a gun at a distance and you have better accuracy and chance of hitting vital organs deep in, all together, increases the crit and piercing of the projectile, ergo more damage. it's to make it more realistic to how guns are in real life. arrows should be the same way, though you also take into account that with an arrow, if you keep it lodged you can use the arrow to stem the bloodflow for a time and continue while with bullets that's not as simple b/c smaller.
      TL;DR Not actually 'more lethal' period, just greater chance of causing more legal damage like reality.

    • @T.H.0601
      @T.H.0601 3 года назад

      armor made to stop a sword or an arrow will do jackshit to a gun, even an early era musket. if you're trying to stab or cut someone with a sword and they're wearing plate armor they won't even feel it unless you aim for a gap in the armor. if you shoot someone wearing that same armor, even with a musket ball and not a bullet, it's going to go right through at point blank range(unless the armor is reinforced, but that's already an armor specifically made to be resistant to gunfire). it's not really about making them "more lethal" but more about making the gun feel like it can go through the defense of the enemy with relative ease compared to a sword or an arrow.

    Sheesh. "That Girl" has issues. Sadly, I see myself in her just a little bit. Though I thankfully got better as a person and as a player with better friends and mental help. My main group can handle dark subject matter like sexual assault or child abuse. Thing is, we only expect that behaviour from the villains in the campaign. It highlights that they really need their teeth kicked in something bad.
    And even then, that kind of behaviour has to spaced out pretty far apart to truly make the subject matter meaningful. Having those kinds of atrocities happening everywhere you go in-game will make you numb to them, which diminishes the importance of stopping such monstrous actions. And above all else, that kind of role-playing is not acceptable from the players, as it gives a very disturbing look into who they really are as people. GMs can get away with it (to a degree) because they have to play the role of the villain and the villains are meant to be defeated.
    With all of that considered, you still need to take into account what subject matter your group is okay with. Everybody has to be comfortable with what happens at the table. That's how you get good D&D.

His excuse for doing so was "there was clearly a heretical aura sourrounding this man!" we all were kind of mad for at him for a bit thinking he was just a murderhobo until it was revealed that the man he shot was actually a high ranking chaos worshipper and our witch hunter had read between the lines of our conversation with him and concluded that he really was evil. The second group doesn't sound like they were overly sensitive, at least, not until the waterboarding explanation, but when you have to say that it's okay to be overly sensitive, then it makes it seem like they're being overly sensitive and trying to cover it up.
    The reason I disagree with the whole not waterboarding a 15 year old is that Children are often dangerous, especially a teenager going through their angsty years. And I've heard and seen far too many stories of Child Soldiers getting the drop on people by acting innocent. Though, I wouldn't waterboard anyone unless they made it relatively clear they knew important information about what we were after, and that's a last resort. Well, close to last, there are more severe things like nails under the fingernails. Or being in a tight room with your average Wizard.

    • @DoctorDarkDude

      Not to mention that a 15-year old in a medieval setting is practically an adult. I kinda understand people not accepting sexual assault in the game though, since some players might have had some bad experiences with that that they don´t want to be reminded of or talk about.

    • @lkriticos7619
      @lkriticos7619 3 года назад +7

      I don't think you understand the damage waterboarding can do to a person. It's cutting off oxygen to the brain. That can cause death and brain damage pretty quickly. It also causes seizures and vomiting, which in combination leads to victims choking to death on their own vomit. Additionally victims can just drown or the use of dirty water can cause infections in the throat and lungs which can also kill people.
      A needle under nails is painful. But in terms of physical injury it leads to the loss of a nail. Waterboarding can and does kill or cause life long physical disability. It just doesn't leave obvious external scars.
      Not anything against how you run your games. You have fun and play in a way you enjoy. But at the same time it's not overly sensitive for people who deal with the reality of this stuff to not want it in their games.

    I just want to put this out there, the homebrew firearm rules in the first story are stupidly, ridiculously broken. You basically get a free crit at 10 feet, in addition to being able to crit on top of that. Reload times can even be negated by things like rapid reload, which makes this even worse. On top of that some abilities give you AoOs in the range that this double damage homebrew would affect. It also makes it nigh suicidal to close distance and attack in Melee, especially if a character carries multiple guns because five foot steps exist, which pressures players to fight from range, which really shouldn't be how guns work.

    • @DaxterL
      @DaxterL 3 года назад +2

      Guns are... ranged weapons why shouldn't guns "work that was"? Besides if it works for him as a dm and players are having fun who cares about balance? DnD is inherently unbalanced also DRAMA (yknow the thing that makes fights, dialogue and other rp scenarios) is based on imbalance.

      @@DaxterL there's a difference between a fun challenge and utter nonsense. This also isn't just a difference between the players and something like a boss, considering this also applies to player characters and is such an overwhelming advantage compared to every other weapon that it actively disincentivizes build diversity.
      Yes guns are ranged weapons, which means that staying at range to combat a ranged weapon should be the dumb thing to do. With ranged weapons the generally advisable strategy is to close the distance so that the range is no longer an advantage. This mechanic throws that very logical strategy out the window and forces people to spec into ranged attacks.

    • @danielhounshell2526
      @danielhounshell2526 3 года назад

      @@CS-sf5nq the reason for that was because closing the distance became nearly impossible, and firearms advanced beyond what armor could keep up with. However, this was not because weapons miraculously doubled in firepower at close range. Armor was less likely to make a difference at a certain range, but a bullet doesn't suddenly do twice as much to your body because of that, and in some systems, guns are already way more likely to hit and do damage than other weapons. If something hits in D&D, it generally symbolizes that you got around the person's armor in some way, like you cut into a gap in plate armor, or you shoot a hole in it with a gun. Those aforementioned systems represent this far better than double damage does. You could simply adapt one of those systems for 5E and it would be way less broken than what was done here.

    Maybe something like "when a spell or item has the explosion descriptor, instead of negating or halving the damage on a successful reflex save, the character instead takes 2/4 damage, or 3/4 respectively", being in improved evasion's case either that or prevent criticals from classes and spells that can crit... whelp honestly im a sucker for homebrew.
