- Step into the "cab" of an ICTS vehicle on the Scarborough RT from Kennedy to McCowan via Scarborough Town Centre.
This video was recorded in mid-2010 at a time when the automated system was under repairs and drivers were operating the trains manually.
Recorded using a Sony Cyber-shot H-1.
THANK YOU SRT FOR ALL THE YEARS RIP
I got to take Scarborough RT for free in the early 2010s for the holidays from Kennedy to McCowan Station which when I did not have to pay for a TTC fare.
The RT uses cab signalling. Commands are relayed to the cab, which displayed colour lights in the corner of the drivers area indicating how clear the track is ahead. The "beeps" are associated with this, usually a more restrictive signal. The "beep" before the doors close is the driver getting a clear signal and that he/she may depart the station.
The Mark I SkyTrains in Vancouver are just like this, except they're automated
Detroit has them too
Well now they are automated but the trains still have windows
Lovely scenic view of the Scarborough countryside
Squeak from the hand controller. When this was filmed, ATO wasn't in use, and all operations were driver controlled.
Damn this line is automated?? Didn't even notice till now!
@@mrrobot5963 its been automated since 1985. there are only driver operations in winter. in summer, all a driver does is press door close and ATO start
3:39 sounds like a cat
nails on a chalkboard when it grinds the rails.
yeah. but more so when it leaves Kennedy.
its actually grinding the middle track, theres a metal grinding the nickel plated third rail.
HOW! HOW! HOW DID YOU GET THAT!
Idk
He Must Be A Driver
He’s driving the train
nice~ i've never ride on the manual-driven RT, quite special experience
10:59 McCowan ( my favorite station )
Nice ride I enjoyed it 😀
why are there no single lights line on the other lines? BTY nice video.
Is the yard/maintenance facility beyond the last stop?
Is it a free transfer to the Scarborough line? Could not the Toronto line simply have been extended with selected trains going all the way to the end of the line? Is the Scarborough equipment compatible with the TTC equipment as respects dimensions, signalling, operating voltage, etc.?
I'm 3 years late, but might aswell answer
1. Yes, the yard and shops are past McCowan (the last stop in this video)
2. Yes, it's a free transfer from the Bloor-Danforth (Line 2) to the Scarbrough RT (Line 3) at Kennedy
3. The line was originally meant as a light rail line (Due to a lower projected ridership) using the Articulated LRVs that the TTC had untill last year (they were forced to use the ITCS system by the Ontario Government)
4. No, the RT is standard gauge (4ft 8.5in), while the Streetcars and Subways use Toronto Gauge (4ft ~10in), the tunnel between Ellsmere and Midland was actually built too small for an ALRV to fit inside. The RT also uses Linear Induction Motors for power, which isn't standard for normal rolling stock, and after the Mk I cars that they currently use, I am unsure if a Mk III could be produced with a driving cab still.
In summary, it's now 2021, and the RT will be closing in 2023 to be torn down as part of a extension of Line 2 to Scarbrough Town Centere that will open in 2030.
I think trains should be automated, buses and streetcars should not.
