This definitely sounds like a confession song not necessarily romantic feelings but he's just telling us how he actually feels now that he's found a friend. Malleus has been alone for so long that once he made a friend in the main protagonist he starts to feel like he can be himself around them and also has the need to protect them from anything that tries to hurt them. He also seems to be afraid of losing that feeling. The pain of loneliness leaves when he's around his new friend. In-game you can kind of see this as well (Spoilers). He sometimes checks on the MC and even asks them to go on walks with him too, during the Halloween events in the first half Halloween almost got ruined by rude people, and not only did the rude people disrespect him but they also disrespected MC which pissed him off so after Halloween was drawing to a close he tried to make an endless Halloween to make up for what happened during Halloween to make MC happy. I can go on with the list but I'm also scared for chapter 7. ;=;'///
Somehow, I feel like the lyrical change they did for the Maleficent version of this song would suit Maleus as well, especially if he becomes fond of protag-chan the same way Maleficent ended up fond of Aurora. Also considering Maleus's seiyuu is more of a singer than a voice actor, I would not be surprised if Disney had him cover this song.
I think these lyrics are a big forshadowing for the future! Maybe he is really the only character who falls for the mc , and at the end of the story mc will face a big danger ( maybe that danger the reason she was brought in this world) and then he swears to protect her/him with this song! Like in Halloween?
